A Management Plan of Wastewater Sludge to Reduce the Exposure of Microplastics to the Ecosystem (미세플라스틱의 환경노출을 최소화하기 위한 하·폐수 슬러지 관리방안)

  • Due to the negative impacts of microplastics (MPs) on the ecosystem, the investigation of its occurrence and its treatment from sewage and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have received a lot of attention in the recent years. Most MPs are precipitated and removed with the sludge during the treatment process. Proper sludge management is immensely necessary to avoid MP exposure in the environment. However, the domestic research on this aspect is limited. This study reviews appropriate sludge management approaches to decrease environmental MP exposure. This can be achieved through investigating sludge generation and treatment, regulation laws and government policy trends with an emphasis on WWTPs. The ratio of sludge in sewage treatment plants has been observed to be highest in recycling followed by incineration and landfills. Recycling is the highest in fuel followed by construction materials and composting. For WWTPs, the highest ratio is in recycling followed by fuel and landfills, and recycling is confirmed in the following order: incineration > after composting > after solidification > earthworm breeding. Treatment approaches that can increase the exposure of MPs to the ecosystem are considered to be used in landfills and agricultural fields. However, this method is not appropriate given the insufficient capacity of domestic landfills and the sufficient supply of existing chemical and animal manure fertilizers. Instead, it would be rational in terms of environmental preservation to expand the use of fuel and energy in connection with the new and renewable energy policy, and to actively seek the use of sub-materials for construction materials. In order to secure the basic data for the effectiveness of future planning and revision of related laws, it is required to perform an in-depth investigation of the sludge supply and demand status along with the environmental and economic effects.

Seismic Performance-based Design using Computational Platform for Structural Design of Complex-shaped Tall Building (전산플랫폼을 이용한 비정형 초고층 건축물 성능기반 내진설계기술의 실무적용)

  • Complex-shaped tall building causes many structural challenges due to its structural characteristics regarding inclined members and complexed shape. This paper is aimed at development of design process using computational-platform which is effective design tool for responding frequent design changes, particularly as to overseas projects. StrAuto, a parametric structural modeling and optimizing system, provides the optimized alternatives according to design intent and realize a swift process converting a series of structural information necessary to nonlinear analytical models. The application of the process was to a 45-story hotel building in Ulanbator, Mongolia adopting shear wall and special moment frame with outrigger systems. To investigate the safety of lateral force resisting system against maximum considered earthquake(MCE), nonlinear response history analysis was conducted using StrAuto.

Fundamental Research on Reactivity of Silica Source in the Rapidly Cured Inorganic Micro-Defect-Free(MiDF) Concrete (촉진 양생한 무기계 MiDF 콘크리트에서 실리카질 원료의 반응성에 관한 기초 연구)

  • In this paper, the reaction properties of silica source in the accelerated curing conditions using autoclave and the fundamental properties of inorganic Micro Defect Free(MiDF) concrete using silica source are studied. Studies show that Si ions elution rate from silica source in autoclave curing is higher in amorphous source. In tap water conditions, solids which is source after autoclaved curing show a higher mass reduction in amorphous materials, which is attributed to the higher elution rate of ion. In $Ca(OH)_2$ solution conditions, amorphous materials show higher mass increase, due to increase in C-S-H minerals. From experiment for influence on the properties of MiDF concrete by using nano silica materials, the specimen with silica fume shows an increase in compressive strength and a decrease in absorption depending on replacement rate up to 5.5%, while nano silica with amorphous phase and high-fineness shows a decrease in compressive strength and decrease in the water absorption. The specimen with nano silica increases the pore below 10,000nm, but reduces pore between 10,000 and 100,000nm. The above results show that the porosity and absorption rate of MiDF concrete can be reduced by using amorphous nano-size silica. However, to reduce the pore of 50 to 10,000nm, better dispersion of nano material in the cement matrix will be necessary. We will focus on the this item in the next research.

An Experimental Analysis of Ultrasonic Cavitation Effect on Ondol Pipeline Management (온돌 파이프라인 관리를 위한 초음파 캐비테이션 효과에 대한 실험적 분석)

  • In the context of Korean residential heating systems, Ondol pipelines are a prevalent choice. However, the maintenance of these pipelines becomes a complex task once they are embedded within concrete structures. As time progresses, the accumulation of sludge, corrosive oxides, and microorganisms on the inner surfaces of these pipelines diminishes their heating efficiency. In extreme scenarios, this accumulation can induce corrosion and scale formation, compromising the system's integrity. Consequently, this research introduces an ultrasonic generation system tailored for the upkeep of Ondol pipelines, with the objective of empirically assessing its practicality. This investigation delineates three variants of ultrasonic generating apparatuses: those employing surface vibration, external generation, and internal generation techniques. To emulate the presence of contaminants within the pipelines, substances in powder, slurry, and liquid forms were employed. The efficacy of the cleaning process post-ultrasonic wave application was scrutinized over time, with image analysis methodologies being utilized to evaluate the outcomes. The findings indicate that ultrasonic waves, whether generated externally or internally, exert a beneficial effect on the cleanliness of the pipelines. Given the inherent characteristics of Ondol pipelines, external generation proves impractical, thereby rendering internal generation a more viable solution for pipeline maintenance. It is anticipated that future endeavors will pave the way for innovative maintenance strategies for Ondol pipelines, particularly through the advancement of internal generation technologies for pipeline applications.

A Study on Railroad Yard Reform for Vitalizing Freight Movement by Railroad: Focused on the Introduction of Piggy Back System (철도물류 활성화를 위한 철도정거장 개량 연구: 피기백(Piggy Back)시스템 도입을 중심으로)

  • There is no question that railroad investment is crucial for better transport systems and the Korean government has continued to invest in railroad facilities. Nevertheless, the modal share of railroad, in particular, for freight has decreased. This is because rail freight transport can hardly meet customer needs such as just-in-time(JIT), a door-to-door service, compared to road transport, to be specific, trucking which can directly carry the freights to the final destinations. This has made the value of the railroad infrastructure less, which has been operated for the past 114 years. This study proposes a new freight movement concept called Piggy Back System. This system can carry freight trucks on the trains and deliver the freights to the final destinations. It can make a door-to-door deliver system possible for railroad transportation, which is the key factor for modal shift from road to railroad. For implementing this, this study proposes three important things: the cost-efficient reforming way of railroad yard that has been used for the past 114 years, the diagram plan of train services, and some technical reviews like clearance limits. This is the first study with practical proposals and solutions on this topic in Korea. The suggestions of this study cut down distribution costs by more than seven trillion won.

A Comparative Study on Korean Compulsory Multiple Prime Contract System (건설산업 제도개선을 위한 분할·분리 발주 제도의 선진화 방안 연구)

  • Procurement System for Korean construction industry has mainly been controlled by the complicated regulatory system which has been recognized as unflexible and remotely separated from the global standard. This has been identified by many Korean construction experts as one of the main reasons that hamper the Korean construction industry becoming the global leader. One commonly discussed regulatory system is the compulsory multiple contracting system that has been enforced for a long time. According to the Korean governmental contracting law 68-3, all construction projects cannot be divided into separate contracting packages with a few exceptions. Exceptions stated in the law include construction activities related electrical, Information communication, fire-fighting, and cultural assets which all are governed by the separate laws/acts controlled by the different governmental bodies. This research is to closely investigate multiple prime contracting system that has been compulsory in Korean construction industry and to provide policy recommendations to these restrictions. Although, there has been a long history of this compulsory contracting system, this study attempted to provide objective analysis on current status of the system as well as global standard on the issue. This study suggests main considerations when considering different contracting system such as rights of owners, flexibilities of regulatory systems, and efficiencies of conducting a construction project. It is envisioned that recommendations from this study, if accepted by the regulatory bodies, would improve the Korean construction contraction system by making it more compatible with global standard. Moreover, these would help making the Korean industry more effective in terms of regulatory restrictions.

A new Direction for the Preliminary Feasibility Study of Public Healthcare Facilities (공공의료시설 예비타당성조사 방법론 개선 방향에 관한 연구)

  • Due to COVID-19, the importance of public medical facilities, especially hospitals specializing in infectious diseases, is rising. Despite the government's strong will, the establishment of public medical facilities and infectious disease hospitals has not been properly established. This is because the overall system related to the construction of public medical facilities does not sufficiently reflect social and economic changes and the trend of the times. The purpose of this study is to derive limitations and problems related to the guidelines for preliminary feasibility studies of public medical facilities and to present alternatives. This study proposes 'Option Value' as an alternative. Since the option value is a willingness to pay for an uncertain situation, it is theoretically reasonable and reasonable to reflect it as an additional benefit. Normally, the value of existence is not seen, but the system that is seen in a crisis is in the 'medical and health'. Therefore, it is necessary to find a system that is invisible even in the feasibility evaluation in the medical and health, and constantly improve and develop a methodology that can estimate changes in the welfare of citizens within the system. I expect this study to play a role as a catalyst.

Research on Mobile Wheelchair Lift Design (이동식 휠체어 리프트 디자인 연구)

  • To improve the social and economic position of the disabled people and secure their human rights, an integrated society should be buill. To build such a society, an adequate access should be provided to the movement or in using buildings or facilities. The inconveniences from social life on the part of the disabled people might not result from their impairment or disability, but from physical and social barriers in the environment surrounding them. Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct entire systems of the society as a disabled people-friendly structure in order to remove those barriers, make them stand their own feet in our communities and freely participate in the social activities. This will eventually lead to build a society in which all people including the disabled people can use those facilities in a more convenient way. It is almost impossible for the disabled people to safely and conveniently access to and use facilities and equipments and freely move to their desired places, without any help from others in Korea. Even though, there are currently many disabled people-related convenience facilities, they have been independently built without a connection with other facilities and buildings, thus not greatly useful. Even when convenience facilities have been built, mostly they are superficially set up; therefore, in many cases, the disabled peOple cannot use those facilities. In this. research, I tried a new concept of mobile wheelchair lift design, which the disabled people can operate without restrictions, when using the public facilities. The key to this research was to develop the existing import-oriented simple functional products to a new system with functional safety and high quality orientation. Also, this research aimed at bringing an. import substitution effect, as well as preempting the mobile wheelchair lift market by advancing into overseas markets through application of new image designs in the field of disabled people aid equipments.

위성자료를 이용한 토지피복에 따른 열환경 평가

  • 최근 인간의 활동범위와 영역이 확대되고 산업이 발전하면서 인간의 삶과 지속가능한 발전 등 도시 기후에 관한 관심도 높아지고 있다. 산업혁명 이후 도시화와 산업화로 인해 인구가 증가하고 도시지역으로 집중됨으로써 도시 열섬화 현상에 대한 도시환경문제가 부각되고 있다. 이는 최근까지도 도시개발에 있어서 기능과 효율성이 우선시 되어 도시기후에 대한 배려가 이루어지지 못하고 있으며, 오히려 과도한 냉난방을 가동하는 등 쾌적한 실내 환경 조성을 위한 노력만을 행해왔다. 도시화에 따른 도시의 열환경 구조의 변화는 토지이용의 변화에 따른 피복상태와 밀접한 관련이 있다는 연구들이 수행된 바 있다. 이렇듯 도시화가 진행됨에 따라서 도심 지표면을 덮고 있는 포장재도 변하고 있다. 대표적인 토지피복재로는 콘크리트와 아스팔트 등의 인공포장재, 수계, 삼림 등으로 크게 나누어 볼 수 있다. 최근 도심의 발달로 인해 도심의 표면은 점차 인공포장재인 아스팔트와 콘크리트로 덮여지고 있다. 인공포장재는 맑은 여름철 낮에 받아들인 열을 야간에도 머금고 있어 도시열섬현상의 주요원인이 된다. 도시화가 진행됨에 따라 토지이용형태가 변화하고 있으며 이러한 토지피복의 변화는 그 지역의 기온과 풍향, 풍속뿐만 아니라 지표온도도 변화시키므로 도시 열환경 구조에 적지 않은 영향을 미치고 있다. 과거에는 자연 환경과 도시공간에 대한 인식이 다른 분야로 나누어져서 다루었지만 현재 위성영상 기술의 발달로 많은 공간 정보를 파악할 수 있게 된 바 도시기후변화에 더욱 직접적이고 근본적인 접근이 쉬워졌다. 원격탐사기법의 활용은 위성자료를 이용하여 동시간대 평면적인 열구조를 정량적으로 파악하는데에 중요한 자료를 제공하여 도시지역을 덮고 있는 인공자재의 존재가 도시열섬의 형성과 밀접하게 연관이 있다는 사실을 짐작할 수 있다. 따라서 도시기후변화의 문제점을 더욱 적극적으로 해결하기 위해서는 토지이용에 따른 지표면 온도 상승의 현황을 파악하고 이를 저감 시킬 수 있는 대책들이 수립되어야 한다. 본 연구는 보다 세분화된 도시 열환경을 정량적으로 분석 평가하기 위해서 토지피복별 분류를 3가지로 대구시 중구 경북대학교 부속 고등학교(이하 사대부고 지점)를 도심지역으로, 경상남도 창녕군 창녕읍 우포늪(이하 우포지점)을 수계지점으로, 경상북도 안동시 길안면 만음리(이하 안동지점) 지점과 대구시 칠곡군 동명면 득명리 팔공산 한티재 도립공원(이하 팔공지점)을 산림으로 분류하여 연구하였다. 대구 계명대학교 기후환경연구실에서 보유하고 있는 AWS(Automatic Weather Station) 자료로 기상요소를 분석하였으며, MODIS Terra 위성영상을 이용하여 지표온도를 추출하고 분석하였다. 또 기상요소와 지표온도를 이용해 회귀식을 도출하여 추정기온을 산출하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 계절에 따른 기온의 시간변화는 여름의 평균기온이 $25.13^{\circ}C$$24.12^{\circ}C$로 사대지점과 우포지점의 평균기온이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 이는 도심에서 발생되는 인공열의 영향으로, 우포지점은 수계의 특징이 반영된 결과라 할 수 있다. 둘째, 계절에 따른 풍속의 시간변화는 여름의 경우 우포지점의 풍속이 1.63m/s로 가장 높은 반면 안동지점의 풍속이 0.27m/s로 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 겨울의 경우 팔공지점의 풍속이 1.82m/s로 가장 높게 나타났다. 토지피복에 따른 지표면의 변화가 도시기후에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 평가하고, 또 지표면 온도와 기온과의 차이를 알아보기 위하여 MODIS 위성 영상을 이용하여 세 지점을 대상으로 토지피복에 따른 열환경을 평가 분석하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, MODIS 위성영상을 이용하여 산출한 지표면 온도는 여름철 주간에 안동지점의 경우 주변지역에 비해 지표면 온도가 약 $26^{\circ}C$로 낮게 나타났으며 우포지점의 경우 수계가 가지는 열 완충능력으로 약 $27^{\circ}C$의 낮은 지표면 온도를 나타내었다. 사대지점의 경우 약 $34^{\circ}C$이상의 높은 지표면 온도를 나타내었다. 둘째, MODIS 위성영상을 이용하여 산출한 지표면 온도와 관측된 기온과의 회귀식을 도출하여 상관분석 한 결과, 모든 지점의 값에서 상관성 및 신뢰도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 상관분석의 결과를 통하여 추정한 기온은 지표면 온도와의 차이가 있지만 유사한 패턴의 결과로 추출되었다. 이러한 결과로 볼 때 도시의 인공자재를 이용한 건축과 개발이 도시열섬현상을 유발하는데 중요한 역할을 하는 것을 정량적으로 평가할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 논문의 연구결과를 바탕으로 도시계획에 있어서 인공구조물에 의한 기온과 풍속이 받는 영향을 고려하여 도심의 인공구조물의 배치나 자재에 대한 개발이 이루어져야 할 것이며 열교환의 방해 및 바람순환이 확보되는 구조로 개선되어야 할 것이다.

Convergent Studies of Utilization Plan and Brand Suggestion for Abandoned Passenger Ferry Terminal in Jangseungpo to Improve Local Community Value (지역 가치 증진을 위한 장승포 폐 여객선 터미널의 활용 방안 및 브랜드 제안에 관한 융합 연구)

  • Along with changes in the industrial structure, revitalizing decrepit or abandoned industrial-age infrastructures are actively under way on a global scale. This study was motivated by an interest in investigating currently idle industrial infrastructures and revitalizing the abandoned passenger ferry terminal in Geoje's Jangseungpo and surrounding areas. The main aims of this study were to examine regional features for the purpose of establishing urban renewal plans and field opinions of the local residents on how to proceed with the restoration of the passenger ferry terminal. To this end, this paper looked into previous case studies of converting decrepit industrial infrastructures into new cultural venues, depending on each region's special circumstances. This paper's findings are as follows: First, as a result of this investigation, the author found that in all cases in Korea and elsewhere revitalization focused on creating modern cultural spaces appropriate for the region while retaining its traditional value. At the same time, they sought sustainable cultural and economic revival. Second, as a result of the investigation on Geoje City's local characteristics, the author found that the surrounding areas' commercial districts were depressed after the terminal's closure. At the time of the investigation, the city government was trying to reopen the terminal as a major port offering multiple international ferry destinations while attracting tourists. Third, as a result of the surveys on the local residents, it was found that more than half of the residents were in agreement with the city government's plan to reopen the terminal and expressed their wishes that they want the terminal to have other uses such as cultural venues. Based on these research results, the author makes proposals, including expanding the passenger ferry terminal and offering cultural spaces within and near the terminal, based on the local residents' opinions and in reflection of local circumstances. As part of this effort, the author also recommends a new brand name and design plan for the new passenger ferry terminal so that Geoje City can improve its local community value.
