  • In this paper, a rotation invariant fingerprint identification system is implemented using the circular harmonic filter and phase only correlator. We extracted the phase component from input fingerprint image and correlate it with the circular harmonic filter of the reference fingerprint image by POC. The input image is obtained using a prism operating in the internal full reflection mode. Then the input image is transformed to two dimensional Fourier spectrum in optical way and the phase component is extracted using a digital system from the spectrum. Because composed of the optical system and digital algorithm, the proposed system has the advantages of the two technologies such as realtime parallel processing property of the optics and the flexibility of the digital system.

  • Fingerprint Recognition System is made up of Off-line treatment and On-line treatment; the one is registering all the information of there trieving features which are retrieved in the digitalized fingerprint getting out of the analog fingerprint through the fingerprint acquisition device and the other is the treatment making the decision whether the users are approved to be accessed to the system or not with matching them with the fingerprint features which are retrieved and database from the input fingerprint when the users are approaching the system to use. In this paper, we propose a new data structure, called Union and Division, for processing binarized digital fingerprint image efficiently. We present a minutiae extraction algorithm that is using Union and Division and consists of binarization, noise removal, minutiae extraction stages.

  • Fingerprint recognition technology was studied by classification and matching. In general, there are five different classifications left loop, right loop, whore, arch, and tented-arch. These classifications are used to determine which class an individual's fingerprint belong to, thereby identifying the individual's fingerprint pattern. The result of this classification, which is sent to the large fingerprint database as an index, helps reduce the matching time and enhance the accuracy of fingerprint matching. The existing fingerprint classification method relies on the number and location of cores and delta points called singular points. The drawback of this method is the lack of accuracy stemming from the classification difficulty involving unclear and/or partially-erased fingerprints. The current paper presents an efficient classification method to rectify the problem associated with identifying Singular points from unclear fingerprints. This method, which is based on Gabor filter's unique characteristics for magnifying directional patterns and frequency range selections, improves fingerprint classification accuracy significantly. In this paper, this method is described and its test result is presented for verification.

  • Fingerprint pores have proven to be useful features for fingerprint recognition and several pore-based fingerprint recognition systems have been reported recently. In order to recognize fingerprints using pore information, it is very important to extract pores reliably and accurately. Existing pore extraction methods utilize 2D model fitting to detect pore centers. This paper proposes a pore extraction method using 1D Gaussian model which is much simpler than 2D model. During model fitting process, 1D model requires less computational cost than 2D model. The proposed method first calculates local ridge orientation; then, ridge mask is generated. Since pore center is brighter than its neighboring pixels, pore candidates are extracted using a $3{\times}3$ filter and a $5{\times}5$ filter successively. Pore centers are extracted by fitting 1D Gaussian model on the pore candidates. Extensive experiments show that the proposed pore extraction method can extract pores more effectively and accurately than other existing methods, and pore matching results show the proposed pore extraction method could be used in fingerprint recognition.

  • This paper proposes a matching algorithm using Voronoi diagram for rotation and translation invariant fingerprint identification. The proposed algorithm extracts geometrical structures that are derived from Voronoi diagram of a fingerprint image. Then two features, distances and angles are extracted from the geometrical structures and saved as indexing form for fingerprint matching. This matching algerian has a lower error rate than indexing based methods of old times.

  • In this paper, we propose an optical correlator system using volume holograms for database of matched filters. Optical correlator has high speed and parallel processing characteristics of optics. Matched filters are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference images of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive crystal in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database can be achieved by rotating the crystal by use of a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for the fingerprint recognition.

Matched filters in VanderLugt correlator are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference fingerprint photographs of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive material in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database is achieved by controlling the reference directions with a step motor. • In this paper, an algorithm for a real-time automatic fingerprint identification system is proposed. The fingerprint feature volume is extracted by considering distinct and local characteristics(such as intensity and image quality difference etc.) in fingerprint images, which makes the algorithm properly adaptive to various image acquisitionj methods. Also the matching technique is designed to be invariant on rotation, scaling and translation (RST) changes while being capable of real-time processing. And the classification of fingerprints is performed based on the ridge flow and the relations among singular points such as cores and deltas. The developed fingerprint identification algorithm has been applied to various sets of fingerprint images such as one from NIST(National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA), a pressed fingerprint database constructed according to Korean population distributions in sex, ages and jobs, and a set of rolled-than-scanned fingerprint images. The overall performance of the algorithm has been analyzed and evaluated to the false rejection ratio of 0.07% while holding the false acceptance ratio of 0%.
