  • Geographic information with convergence ubiquitous IT technologies becomes much more intelligent. In ubiquitous space, users can make information access easier and the use of geographic information more efficient through the 'Geospatial Web,' as a platform between the real world and the virtual world. Many global IT venders make an effort to develop innovated technologies, such as Geospatial web platforms and engines. This study examines the concept of 'Geospatial Web,' technology trends for intelligent geographic information and standardization activities for ubiquitous geographic information. Finally, to obtain international market competitiveness, the technology development strategies for intelligent geographic information are suggested.

  • The construction of digital geographic information of Non-Urban Area have been needed to build a nationwide information infrastructure for the balanced development of nation to reduce a gap between city and Non-Urban Area due to the emphasis on a large scale digital map (1/1,000) implementation for cities. In this research, we researched the basic long-term blueprint for establishing digital geographic information in non-urban area. From the proposed institutional foundation, we want to build this information for Non-Urban Areas and to make a long-term plan to strengthen the national com petitiveness dealing with the globalization, liberalization, and information based on the digital geographic information in non-urban area. This study suggested 3 alternatives to implement digital geographic information of Non-Urban Area as follow. Firstly central government fund whole cost, secondly central government and local government fund a cost half and half, lastly combining first and second alternative. This study can be a basis on building national information infrastructure, provide core information for national projects and revitalize the use of spatial information for Non-Urban Area.

  • Recently, GIS(Geographic Information System) has been developed to personalized service for providing the specialized services that is aimed to personal user based on mobile communication. The existing GIS system provides comprehensive and simple information but GIS System for personalized service must provide the adjustive information through the personal interest profile based on POI(PoInt of Interest). This paper describes the intelligent retrieval geographical information service module for providing personal oriented geographic information service. Our proposal model consists of user preference profile, acquisition of POI through hybrid network (Wireless LAN, CDMA), service platform and implementation of prototype system. Implementation model can apply to the life information service like restaurant, oil station, convenient store and etc.

  • Recently, the geographic information system(GIS) is generally used in various fields with the development of information and communication technology, with expansion of its applications and utilization scope. Especially, utilizing GIS is expected to have positive effects on the geography learning and more helpful for the geographic information observation compared to the picture or 2D based media. The effective visualization of complex geographic data does not only take realization of its visual information but also increases the human ability in analysis and understanding to use the geographic information. In this paper, we examine a method to develop the geography learning contents based on the technology with augmented reality and GIS, and then we have a case study for various kinds of visualization techniques and examples to use in geography learning situation. Moreover, we introduce an example of the manufacturing process from the existing GIS data to augmented reality based geography learning system. From the above, we show that the usefulness of our method is applicable for effective visualization of the three-dimensional geographic information in the geography learning environment.

  • Both Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing fields have been nearly neglected or ignored by historical geographers. This paper intends to show the potentiality of satellite images of various spatial reslutions to explore and to express themes of historical geography. Old Chinese maps and atlas were also used to relate the digital values and historical facfors. Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer data might be used as a real image for a contintal scale to show changes in coastal shoreline. Landsat Thematic Mapper Imagery of Beijing showed some of boundaries of old palace. Finally IKONOS images of one meter resolution showed detailed information of landcover and landuse of the City, Beijing. The potential capability and limitation to apply satellite imagery in application of historical geography are also discussed.

  • Geography as a field of learning had its beginnings among the scholars of ancient Greece. The emergence of modern Geography was much due to the collection and classification of information about overseas areas. Today, world regional geography, which may be called area studies in other social sciences, is regarded as an introductory geography course in many American universities. World regional geography, however, has been much neglected by Korean geographers. Many factors have made Korean geographers not concentrate their efforts to area studies. The exterior factors include the great expenses for the area studies' fieldworks, and the many geographers' involvement in the writing of geography textbooks and atlases for school students. The interior factors include all the ethno-centric, mysterious, and authoritarian perspectives a large number of Korean geographers strongly stick to.

  • Aziridine derivatives were utilized for the formation of aziridine N-oxides at low temperature, which were subject to easy decomposition and/or rearrangement like the protonated aziridines at room temperature. t-Butyl nitroso compound formed by the decomposition of N-oxide is easily characterized by its blue color and it is the major product in case that no branched alkyl groups are substituted on the carbon atoms of the aziridine ring and the stationary groups on the nitrogen are inert to rearrange the oxide such as the t-butyl group. The oxidative rearrangement products, however, are mainly formed when the substituents are methyl or ethyl group on the carbon atoms. It is interesting to see that the sigmatropic rearrangement of 2-ethyl aziridine gave only cis olefinic compound selectively in case that t-butyl group was substituted on the nitrogen, whereas N-hydroxy aziridine compounds were formed exclusively when t-butyl group was replaced with ethyl group.

  • The goal of this study is to build the environmental and geographic information system according to the administrative territory in Gyeongbuk province in order to resolve the mismatch between the environment attribute information and geographic information system. In order to do that, this study reviews the characteristics of local geographic information system and environmental attribute information. After that, this paper tries to figure out the way of integration between geographic and environmental informations using the administrative unit code. The result of this study can provide the basic database for building the environmental policy and improve the reality of policy analysis because this method can provide the environmental attribute database with the administrative territory information. And it will contribute to improve the environmental management system and to build the other attribute databases for the local government.

  • It is generally found that geography majors' progression in society has a very limited scope in Korea and this is one of the causes of lessening geographers' job market. As an attempt to draw a solution to this problem, this paper, by a close examination of the French case, tries to discuss the possibility of geographers' participation in the public sector. Geographers' participation in political and social issues has long history. They acted as providers of geographical knowledge on human and physical features of the world and also as counsellors for effective administration and politics. French geographers evaluate that it is the characteristics of geography that enable geographers to progress into the public sector. They also perceive that such fields as regional development, environment, economy, tourism, international politics are possible ones for geographers. Some implications can be drawn from this case study to extend geographers' participation in the pubic sector in Korea; it is required to sustain open mind to every field of social sciences, to improve specialized as well as generalized knowledge on geographical features, and to provide practical knowledge on spatial analysis and management.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate if there is any regional distribution difference in the frequency of geographical location's name mentioned on the SAT Korean geography test. The reviewed items were used for geography subject test in Korean SAT exam in between 2005 and 2015. Researchers analyzed how often a location had been mentioned in the form of maps, captions, and graphs in the national college entrance exam for 11 years. The result indicated that 42% out of the 220 items were using map and about 33% of them represented a specific region. Especially, items related with climate, industries, and local area section contained a specific area information more frequently than others. Moreover, there were 76 cities mentioned in geography subject test on Korean SAT exam during 11 years and 25 places among them were referred to more than three times. The most frequently appeared city was Seoul followed by Incheon, Daegu, Busan, Gangneung, and Jeju and this result shows that there were some regional bias in geography test on the SAT Korean exam.
