Teaching mathematically gifted students through Mentor-Project Studying (사사프로젝트 학습을 통한 수학영재 지도)

  • A new teaching-learning method is needed to improve creative problem-solving ability of the gifted students at mathematics. In response to this demand, I applied mentor-project studying to the mathematically gifted class students of Chungnam Science High School. The purpose of this monograph is to analyze in what situations they demonstrated mathematical creativity and whether the interactions among the gifted in the process of studying were of great help toward improving creativity. The effectiveness of mentor-project studying was especially verified by the analysis of creative problem-solving test results.

  • 미래의 교육은 전통적인 면대면 방식으로 이루어지는 오프라인 학습과 컴퓨터와 네트워크를 활용한 온라인 학습이 통합적으로 이루어지는 학습체계 속에서 교과서의 지식을 학생들에게 전달하는 방식의 기존 교육과는 매우 다른 모습을 보일 것이고, 학습자 중심의 개인별 맞춤식 교육을 지향하고, 원활한 의사소통 방법을 이용하여 협력 중심의 활동을 강조할 것이다. 이에 교육현장에서는 다양한 이론과 연구를 통해 교수 학습방법 개선하고, 기초 기본 학력 신장에 끝없는 노력을 기울여 왔다. 하지만 이처럼 부단한 노력에도 불구하고 기초 기본 학력의 성취 수준이 부족한 학생은 여전히 대부분의 학급에서 많이 존재하고 있다. 때문에 학생들의 학력과 교사의 지도방법을 신뢰하지 못하는 학부모들은 자녀들을 어릴 때부터 사교육으로 내몰고 있는 것이 우리 교육의 현실이다. 이러한 현실에 공교육을 보완하기위해 등장한 사이버가정학습이 그 취지에 맞게 공교육울 내실화하여 학부모와 학생들에게 신뢰성을 회복한다면 사교육비 경감 효과와 더불어 제대로 된 학교 교육의 정체성을 확보하게 될 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 블렌디드 학습모형의 하나인 온라인 보충학습 결합모형을 적용하여 학생들에게 학습에 대한 흥미와 지적 호기심을 자극함으로써, 기초 기본학습의 내실화가 이루어져 결과적으로 학생들의 기초 기본학력이 신장되었음을 확인하였다.

The Effect of Self-Regulated Learning Factors on Learning Motivation on Underachiever (학습부진학생의 자기조절학습요인이 학습동기에 미치는 영향)

  • The problem of poor learning has been a subject that has been constantly raised in the educational field since the mid 20th century. Therefore, this study classified the components of self - regulated learning into cognitive - control, motive - control, and behavior - control strategies, and examined the effects of self - regulated learning on internal value, self - efficacy, curiosity, and self - confidence. The study was conducted on university students who participated in the program for the study of depression in A university in Changwon city. The results showed that self - regulated learning factors had a positive effect on learning motivation. Second, the learning adjustment factors have a positive effect on self - efficacy. Finally, learning control factors have a positive effect on curiosity and self - confidence. Through this study, we confirmed that a comprehensive guidance system considering interaction is needed because various factors act integrally in the learning process. As a concrete method, it is imperative to develop a learning counseling program that can enhance the motivation level by referring to cognitive, synchronous, and behavioral factors.

Exploring the Effects of Reading & Writing English Program on Self-Efficacy of Korean University Students (독해·영작 중심의 교양영어프로그램이 한국 대학생의 영어자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • Though it has been known that self-efficacy is a predictor to the successful L2 learning, the majority of studies on self-efficacy cases were targeted at secondary school students. This paper aims to explore the effects of the intermediate college students' essay writing experiences on their English self-efficiency. For this purpose, pre and post course surveys were conducted on a hundred or so freshmen who took intermediate college English classes which focused on improving English reading and writing skills. Interviews with teachers were also conducted in order to find out whether the differences of their teaching styles had any meaningful impact on their students' self-efficacy. Paired t-test was run on the responses of the post-questionnaire to identify any differences in the self-efficacies of the students before and after taking the classes, and the one-way ANOVA was conducted to find out whether the different instruction types had any significant impact on the differences. The results of the both analyses confirmed the differences of self-efficacies by the two predictors at a statistically significant level. Based on the findings of this paper, various types of writing assignments and efficient procedures of teachers' feedback need to be developed further in order to design and run an effective college English course which can contribute to enhancing self-efficacy of students.

One Year Long In-Service Education to Help Become a Constructivist Science Teacher (구성주의 과학교사를 만들기 위한 장기적인 현직 교육의 한 예)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate a process of change which was made by a science teacher for one-year long in-service education program in terms of constructivist teaching behaviors and beliefs. The in-service program was featured by the use of learning cycle model and Science-Technology-Society approach. One of science teachers, who attended an one-year long in-service program was selected for this study. She developed three teaching materials for the duration. The three teaching materials were analyzed to find components of Science-Technology-Society and the integration of science content and real life context. Also, an interview was performed to assess changes in her perspectives on science, science teaching and science learning through the program. The first material was constructed in the form of learning cycle with little emphasis on STS. The second material was embedded with personal matters such as a refrigerator. The final one was shown to be organized with science content in a personal context and with focus on the role play. The interview also showed that her perspectives on science and science teaching have changed toward the constructivist's during the participation in the in-service program. It is suggested that a long-term in-service program should be developed and implemented so that the science teachers may become constructivist teachers.

Semantic-based Genetic Algorithm for Feature Selection (의미 기반 유전 알고리즘을 사용한 특징 선택)

  • In this paper, an optimal feature selection method considering sematic of features, which is preprocess of document classification is proposed. The feature selection is very important part on classification, which is composed of removing redundant features and selecting essential features. LSA (Latent Semantic Analysis) for considering meaning of the features is adopted. However, a supervised LSA which is suitable method for classification problems is used because the basic LSA is not specialized for feature selection. We also apply GA (Genetic Algorithm) to the features, which are obtained from supervised LSA to select better feature subset. Finally, we project documents onto new selected feature subset and classify them using specific classifier, SVM (Support Vector Machine). It is expected to get high performance and efficiency of classification by selecting optimal feature subset using the proposed hybrid method of supervised LSA and GA. Its efficiency is proved through experiments using internet news classification with low features.

  • 최첨단 정보통신 기술의 급속한 발전과 구성주의 학습 이론을 기반으로 등장한 원격 교육에서는 학습자가 자신의 학습 과정을 주관함으로써 자신에게 필요한 지식과 기술을 습득하는 자기주도적 학습이 이루어진다. 그러나 웹 기반 원격 교육이나 구성주의가 '학습자 중심의 교육을 실현할 수 있는 기반'으로 자리잡기 위해서는 교사의 역할이 반드시 필요하다. 지금까지 이루어지고 있는 웹상의 원격 교육은 정적이고 수동적인 방식으로 이루어져, 학습자의 학업 성취 정도를 다양하게 파악할 수 없을 뿐 아니라 교사의 역할이 거의 배제되어 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 교사 에이전트를 활용하여 학습자의 다양한 학습 진도를 단계별로 지도할 수 있는 원격 교육 시스템 모델을 제안하고자 한다. 제안하는 모델에서 교사 에이전트는 학습자 정보를 바탕으로 학습자 개개인의 학습 진행 상황에 맞는 학습 모델을 생성하고 평가에 의해 학업 성취 정도를 파악하여 다음 단계로의 학습 진행 여부를 제어한다. 이를 통하여 웹기반 원격 교육이 제공하는 학습 자원이 아무 목적없이 정보 검색 자체로 활용되는 문제점을 해결하고 진정한 학습자 중심의 교육을 실현할 수 있는 기반을 마련할 수 있다.

A Study on Defining and Naming of the Figures in the Elementary Mathematics - focusing to 4th grade Geometric Domains- (정의하기와 이름짓기를 통한 도형의 이해 고찰 -초등학교 4학년 도형 영역을 중심으로-)

  • This research is a study on student's understanding fundamental conception of mathematical curriculum, especially in geometry domain. The goal of researching is to analyze student's wrong conception about that domain and get the mathematical teaching method. We developed various questions of descriptive assessment. Then we set up the term, procedure of research for the understanding student's knowledge of geometry. And we figured out the student's understanding extent through analysing questions of descriptive assessment in geometry. In this research, we concluded that most of students are having difficulty with defining the fundamental conception of mathematics, especially in geometry. Almost all the students defined the fundamental conceptions of mathematics obscurely and sometimes even missed indispensable properties. Prior to this study, we couldn't identify this problem. Here are some suggestions. First, take time to reflect on your previous mathematics method. And then compile some well-selected questions of descriptive assessment that tell us more about student's understanding in geometry.

Comparison of Pre- and In-service Elementary School Teachers' PCK about Questioning in Mathematics Class (수학적 발문에 대한 초등학교 예비교사와 현직교사의 PCK 비교)

  • This study intended to draw some suggests for the development of mathematics teachers' expertise through the comparison research of pre-service and in-service teachers' PCK about questioning in elementary mathematics class. For this purpose, questionnaire survey was conducted to some pre-service and in-service teachers about the PCK concerning the way how questioning during mathematics class. This survey revealed the following implications. First, from the perspective of mathematics classroom, it is still more important the practical knowledge about how to teach which is evolutionally developed passing through the experience and currier of teaching than theoretical knowledge itself. Comparing the teachers' PCK about the two related knowledge types of mathematics contents, in case of procedural knowledge related PCK it was more asked of teachers' expertise than the case of conceptual knowledge related PCK. Thirdly, in case of learners' incorrect answer, for the desirable teaching it should be a questioning focused on whether there being or not the systematic among the learners' incorrect answer, and in case of appreciating the learners' understanding about the presently taught contents the questioning should be constructed considering the relevant contents early learned.

  • 최근에 들어 교육현장에서 수준별 교육의 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 그러나 적은 수의 교사로 많은 수의 학습자를 수준별로 교육하는 것은 쉽지 않은 일이다. 조별 이동이나 급간 이동으로 수준을 나누어 교육하고 있으나 변화하는 학습자의 정확한 수준 측정 및 이동이 어렵다. 또한 CAI(Computer Aided Instruction) 프로그램이 많이 보급되었지만 수업 외 시간에 학습자 스스로 반복 훈련을 통한 학습을 강조하므로 교실 수업에 적용하기는 어렵다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 수업시간 교사의 지도하에 웹을 기반으로한 교수-학습을 통해 각 학생들의 수준을 평가한 후 수준에 맞는 학습과 보충 및 심화학습이 이루어질 수 있는 웹기반 수준별 교수-학습 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다.
