  • In the present study, viscous flow calculations of helicopter main rotor system in forward flight were made by using an unstructured hybrid mesh solver. Each rotating blade relative to the cartesian frame was simulated independently by adopting unstructured overset mesh technique. For the validation of the present method, calculations for the Caradonna-Tung non-lifting forward flight and the AH-1G main rotor system in forward flight were made. Additional computation was made for the UH-60A rotor in forward flight. Reasonable agreements were obtained between the present results and the experiment.

  • In this paper, an effective procedure is presented for the local recovery of displacements and stresses in multilayered composite panels, which incorporate the local refinement using mesh superposition. The mesh superposition method is used to refine the global coarse mesh by superimposing refined mesh to the localized zone of interest without transition zones. The finite element model used is a solid element based on the Hellinger-Reissner variational principle. The a posteriori computation of the through-the-thickness distributions of displacements and stresses is achieved using a predictor-corrector procedure. The procedure utilizes the superconvergent stresses and nodal displacements of the finite element patch. The element patch is generated by locally superimposing a refined local mesh to the coarse global mesh.

  • The spatial accuracy becomes first-order when second-order conservation schemes including the non-conservative interpolation in general Chimera method are used. To ensure the solution accuracy, the discontinuities must be located away from the overlapped regions, and the length of overlapped region also must be proportional to the grid spacing. In this paper, a proposed method, cut-paste algorithm, is used to satisfy above constraints. The cut-paste algorithm can generate the optimal mesh inteface region automatically, To validate the spatial and temporal accuracy due to the non-conservative interpolation, inviscid and viscous problems are tested.

  • Shadow moire topography has been used as a noncontact method for measuring the 3-D shapes of objects. The moire fringes are results from the superposition of a master grating and its shadow projected on the surface of an object. But in case of the classical shadow moire method, in general, the resolution is a few tenths of millimeter. It is difficult to use a phase -shifting method in shadow moire because it is impossible to obtain uniform phase shifts on the whole field. But in this study , We introduce a phase-shifting method to improve the resolution of the classical shadow moire method. This method is based on the fact that if the depth of object is much less than the distance between the observer and the master grating, the phase shifts are almost uniform on the whole field area. Finally, we applied this new phase-shifting method to the measurement of the 3-D shape of a coin.

  • Accurate and fast haptic simulations of deformable objects are desired in many applications such as medical virtual reality. In haptic interactions with a coarse model, the number of nodes near the haptic interaction region is too few to generate detailed deformation. Thus, local refinement techniques need to be developed. Many approaches have employed purely geometric subdivision schemes, but they are not proper in describing the deformation behavior of deformable objects. This paper presents a continuum mechanics-based finite element adaptive method to perform haptic interaction with a deformable object. This method superimposes a local fine mesh upon a global coarse model, which consists of the entire deformable object. The local mesh and the global mesh are coupled by the s-version finite element method (s-FEM), which is generally used to enhance accurate solutions near the target points even more. The s-FEM can demonstrate a reliable deformation to users in real-time.

  • The shadow moire is one the optical techniques which able to give contour lines of an object with respect to a master grating plane. The moire patterns are issued from the superposition of a grating and its shadow projected on the surface of an object. But in the conventional shadow moire method the reference grating and deformed grating are mutually dependent, it is impossible to obtain uniform phase shifts on the whole field by moving the reference grating. Here we propose ane trial to apply phase shifting to conventional shadow moire. When, in the conventional arrangement, Phase-shifting that is sctually constant regardless of fringe orders is achieved by moving the grating and the light source. Finally we obtained a better result by using this procedure and applied the phase shifting shadow moire to three dimensional measurement.

  • Since the previous cut-and-try design algorithm require much cost and time, it has recently been concerned the automatic design technique using the CFD and optimum design algorithm. In this study, the Navier-Stokes equations is solved to consider the more detail viscous flow informations of cascade interaction and O-H multiblock grid system is generated to impose an accurate boundary condition. The cubic-spline interpolation is applied to handle a relative motion of a rotor to the stator. To validate present procedure, the time averaged aerodynamic loads are compared with experiment and good agreement obtained. Once the N-S equations have been solved, the computed aerodynamic loads may be used to computed the sensitivities of the aerodynamic objective function. The Modified Method of feasible Direction(MMFD) is usef to compute the

  • Transient aerodynamic response of an airfoil to a moving plane-flap is numerically investigated using two-dimensional Euler equations with conservative Chimera grid method. A body moving relative to a stationary grid is treated by an overset grid bounded by a 'dynamic domain-dividing line' the concept of which is developed in this study. A conservative Chimera grid method with a dynamic domain-dividing line technique is applied and validated by solving the flowfield around circular cylinder moving supersonic speed. The unsteady and transient characteristics of the flow solver is also examined by computations of a oscillating airfoil and a ramp pitching airfoil respectively. The transient aerodynamic behavior of an airfoil with a moving plane-flap is analyzed for various flow conditions such as deflecting rate of flap and free stream Mach number.

  • The spatial error due to the non-conservative interpolation become first-order when second-order conservative schemes are used, discontinuities are located away from the overlapped regions, and if the length of the overlapped region is not proportional to the grid spacing. Therefore, the solution accuracy is ensured if two domains overlap each other with a fixed grid point and the interpolation is occurred in smooth flow regions. To validate the spatial and temporal accuracy due to the non-conservative interpolation, inviscid and viscous problems are tested.
