Host Range, Occurrence and Developmental Characteristics of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus (Homoptera : Coccidae) on Persimmon Trees (감나무에 기생하는 뿔밀깍지벌레의 기주범위, 발생소장, 각 태별 생육 특성)

  • This study investigated host range, seasonal occurrence and developmental characteristics of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus Green on persimmon trees. The host plants covered 34 families and 66 species, including newly recorded species of Chenopodum album var. centrorubrum, Glycine max, Begonia semperflorens, Pharbitis nil, Perilla frutescens var. japonica and Erigeron canadensis. There was one generation of C. pseudoceriferus a year with larval stage expanding from mid-June to mid-October. Average number of eggs laid per female was 1,073$\pm$177.3. Hatching rate was 97.3% and was not affected by temperatures and photoperiods. Stadium varied as 23.4 days in eggs, 128.3 days in larvae and 213.3 days in female adults including overwintering periods at natural condition.

On the Growth of Young Stage Acanthopagrus schlegelii in Kunsan Coast, Korea (군산연안 유어기 감성돔의 성장)

  • To study on the growth of young stage Acanthopagrus schlegelii, samples were collected from the shallow waters off Kunsan, Korea from July to December, 1995. The planctonic larvae of Acanthopagrus schlegelii were collected in early June. The young fish of 12.7~26.6 mm in total length began to appear in the shallow water in late June. They grew up 19.9~51.4 mm in middle July, 24.8~75.0 mm in late July, 63.3~79.6mm in middle August. A. schlegelii disappear from the shallow water after middle August, and began to be collected in the outer bay off Kokunsan Isls. by long back net. This species that had spawned from Kunsan coast in late June to middle August grew up to 100mm in total length in December of that year.

  • Life cycle of Tropidothorax cruciger(Motschulsky) was studied on Cynanchum wilfordii Hemsley in the field as well as its development, overwintering patterns, and host preferences. Overwintered adults appeared in early and mid May, and the first generation adults emerged from late June extending to mid August. Second generation adults which usually overwinter, appeared from mid September to early October and were usually found beneath the soil surface or fallen leaves in winter. Adults were not attracted to various light sources. T. cruciger showed host preferences specifically toward Metapiexis japonica and Cynanchum wilfordii, both in the family of Asclepiadaceae.

Natural Enemies of Citrus Red Mite, Panonychus citri McGREGOR, and Seasonal Occurrence of Major Predators on Yuzu tree (Citrus Junos) (유자에서 귤응애의 천적종류와 주요종의 발생소장)

  • This studies was carried out to investigate the natural enemies of citrus red mite, pononychus citri and seasonal occurrence of its major beneficial insects in Yuzu groves (Chonnam province) from 1996 to 1998. Natural enemies against citrus red mite were 9 species including Oligota kashmirica benifica, 0. yasumatsui, Stethorus punctillum, Chrysopa pallens, Propylea japonica, Orius sauteri, Scolothrips takahashii, Amblyseius womersleyi and one unidentified species of thrips (Family: Phlaeothripidae). Among them, Oligota kashmirica benzficu and Stethorus punctillum were found to be dominant species. 0 . kushmirica henifica had 4-5 generations from middle May to middle November with peak in early September. S. punctillum had 3 generations from late May to late October with peak of late June to middle July. Population dynamics between predator ( 0 . kushmiricu benifica and S. punctillum) and prey (Panonychus citri) were quite well synchronized until September but predator density was decreased abruptly after October.

A Variation of Summer Rainfall in Korea (한국의 여름철 강수량 변동 - 순별 강수량을 중심으로 -)

  • Daily rainfall data from 14 stations during 1941 to 2000 were analyzed in order to examine the characteristics of the variation of summer rainfall and the identify relationship between the variation of summer rainfall and the variation of SOI(Southern Oscillation Index) and NPI(North Pacific Index), global temperature. For further investigation, study period is divided into two 30 year intervals, 1941-1970 and 1971-2000. There are the trend of increase in August and decrease in September in the later period compared with the earlier one. It was Mid-west in August where there is the largest variation. It is related to the increase of the frequency of heavy rainfall. The second period of extreme rainfall by ten days is absent, or it change from early in September to late in August. According to the result, the dry spell in August disappears and Changma is continued to early in September. Gradually, there is change from negative (or positive) to positive (or negative) to the rainfall anomaly of the mid of August and the mid of September (or July). The correlation between the variation of rainfall and oceanic variation and global temperature is statistically significant.

Species, Damage and Population Density of Pseudococcidae Injuring Pear Fruits (배를 가해하는 가루깍지벌레류와 가해양상 및 밀도변동)

  • This study investigated species, damage to fruits and population density of Pseudococcidae on pear in Naju, Chonnam province from 1990 to 1991. Three species, Planococcus kraunhiae, Pseudococcus comstocki and Crisicoccus matsumotoi, were identified. Of them P. kraunhiae was most abundant as 80.6%. Rate of fruit damages was greatest in var. Poongsoo as 39.7% but locations of field did not affect the rates. Degree of damages on Singo(late var.), Poongsoo (midseason var.) and Haengsoo(early var.) was 21.2, 18.2 and 13.3%, respectively. Population density of scales within paper bag of fruits began to increase from mid-June and showed the first at mid-July, the second at mid-August and third peak at early October. Rate of fruit damages was 48% at the first peak and 50.6% at 7 days after the second peak. Density increased from early October again but migration was not active presumably because of cold weather.

Studies on Damage, Emergence, and Overwintering of the Chestnut Curculio, Curculio sikkimensis in Chonnam Province (전남지방에 있어서 밤바구미의 피해상황, 우화 및 월동에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the bionomics of Curculio sikkimensis in Chonnam province from 1981 to 1983. Damage rates of the chestunt were $26.4\%$ in Damyang, $21.1\%$ in Gwangyang, and $12.9\%$ in Seungju. Adults occurred from the mid-July to the mid-September and showed peak from the mid-August to the early-September. Larvae escaped the chestnut from the early-October to the early-November. Overwintering larvae emerged $3.3\%$ in the first year, $22.78\%$ in the second year and continously overwintered $1.67\%$ in the third year. Larvae showed the highest distribution at $1.67\%$ of soil depth during the overwintering. Mortality of overwintering larvae and course of time showed the linearly correlation. Period of each stage was 5.9 days for egg and 17.17 days for pupa. Adult longevity was 9.10 days for female and 7.03 days for male.

한국산 파파리반딧불이 (Hotaria papariensis Doi)의 생태학적 연구

  • 파파리반딧불이(H papariensis)의 생태학적 특성을 규명하고자 서식처 환경, 개체군, 고도별 출현양상과 지역별 분포양상, 발광양상, 교미행동을 조사하였다. 춘천시 서면 지암리에서 H. papariensis 성충의 개체군 밀도를 1998년 5월부터 7월에 걸쳐 조사하였으며, 전체 채집 개체수는 703개체였다. 이중 수컷은 680개체, 암컷은 23개체를 채집하였다. 지암리에서 전체 출현기간은 50여 일로 추정되었다. 처음 출현한 날로부터 2주에서 3주 사이에 최대 정점을 나타내었으며, 이후 점진적으로 감소하는 출현양상을 나타내었다. 수컷 680개체중 47개체는 재 포획되었으며, 이로서 추정된 최대수명은 6일 이상, 평균수명은 3.26일로 나타났으며, 수컷과 암컷의 상대적인 성비는 27.5/l로 나타났다. 한국산 Hotaria속 반딧불이 2종의 고도별 출현 및 지역별 분포양상에 대하여 1999년 5월부터 7월까지 18개 지역을 선정하여 조사하였다. 전체 채집개체수는 1096개체였으며 이중 H. papariensis는 584개체, H unmunsana는 512개체였다 두 종은 제주도를 제외한 전 조사지역에서 공서 하고 있었으며 H. papariensis는 북쪽지역에 우세하게 분포하였고 H. unmunsana는 남쪽지역에 우세하게 분포하는 양상을 나타내었다. 성충 반딧불이의 최고 출현성기는 고도가 높아질수록 늦어지는 경향을 나타내었다. 고도별로 200m 이하 지역에서는 6월 초순에서 중순, 200-400m 지역에서는 6월 중순에서 말경, 400-600m 지역에서는 6월말 경부터 7월 초순, 600-800m 지역에서는 7월 초순부터 중순에 각각 최고 성기를 나타내었다. H. papariensis의 암컷과 수컷의 발광양상을 분석하고자 정지발광과 구애 발광을 구분하여 조사하였고 각각의 발광지속시간과 발광주기를 구분하여 측정하였다. 수컷의 발광지속시간은 정지발광(0.12초)보다 구애발광(0.17초)에서 1.4배 증가하였으며 암컷의 발광지속시간은 정지발광(0.15초)보다 구애발광(0.19초)에서 1.5배 증가하였다. 발광주기는 수컷에서 정지발광(1.26초)보다 구애발광(1.12초)에서 0.88배 감소하였고, 암컷에서 정지발광(2.99초)보다 구애발광(1.06초)에서 0.35배 감소하였다. 발광양상에서 발광주파수는 수짓의 정지발광에서 0.8 Hz, 수컷 구애발광에서 0.9 Hz, 암컷의 정지발광에서 0.3 Hz, 암컷의 구애발광에서 0.9 Hz로 각각 나타났다. H. papariensis의 발광파장영역은 400 nm에서 700 nm에 이르는 모든 영역에서 확인되었으며 가장 높은 첨두치는 600 nm에 있고 500에서 600 nm 사이의 파장대가 가장 두드러지게 나타났다. 발광양상과 어우러진 교미행동은 Hp system과 같은 결과를 얻었다.

Analysis of Agricultural Drought Areas through Drought Frequency Analysis in 2018 year (2018년 가뭄빈도 해석을 통한 농업가뭄 지역 분석)

  • 기상청에 따르면 2018년 강수량은 평년보다 높으나 시기 및 지역에 따른 편차로 인해 강수 부족 지역이 발생하였고 7월 중순부터 8월말까지 최저 강수로 인한 국지적 가뭄이 발생하였다. 특히 전국적으로 영농기 시점(3~5월) 및 영농기 종점(10월)에 평년보다 많은 비가 왔으나 7~8월말 평년보다 적은 강수로 인한 여름철 농업가뭄이 발생하였다. '73년 이후 두 번째로 짧은 장마기간을 기록하였고 장마기간 강수량은 평년대비 72% 수준으로 일부 지역 저수지 저수율은 지속적인 심각단계를 초래했다. 2018년 강우기준 가뭄빈도 분석을 위해 '18년 1월~8월까지 누적 강수량을 기준으로 분석, 7월 중순에서 8월 중순까지 극심한 강수 부족이었으나 1월~8월까지 누적 강수량은 평년 수준을 나타내었다. 강우기준 가뭄빈도 분석 결과 10년 이상 가뭄빈도 해당 지역은 전남 강흥군과 강진군으로 분석되었다. '18년 7월 강수량을 기준으로 분석결과 전국 대부분 지역이 극심한 강우 부족에 따른 가뭄이 발생한 것으로 200년 이상 가뭄빈도 해당 지역은 107개 시군으로 분석되었다. 저수율기준 가뭄 빈도 분석을 위해 '18년 8월 저수지 저수율 기준 가뭄빈도 분석결과 벼작물 생육기간 중 필요수량 높은 시기에 용수 부족으로 200년 이상 가뭄빈도 해당 지역은 45개 시군으로 나타났다.

Growth and Bulb Characteristics of Extremely Early-Maturing Onion by Air Temperature Variation at Different Altitudes (해발고도별 기온변화에 따른 극조생 양파의 생육 및 구특성)

  • A study was carried out to determine the influence of climatic environments on the growth characteristics and bulb quality of extremely early-maturing type onion grown at different altitudes, such as 60m, 200m, 350m and 700m above sea level (ASL). The mean air temperature during the growing season of extremely early-maturing type onion (October 18 to April 27) was $10.8^{\circ}C$, $9.6^{\circ}C$, $8.1^{\circ}C$ and $6.1^{\circ}C$ at 60m, 200m, 350m and 700m ASL. The mean air temperature during the bulb growth period (March 16 to April 14) was recorded $10.5^{\circ}C$, $9.4^{\circ}C$, $7.9^{\circ}C$ and $6.0^{\circ}C$ at 60m, 200m, 350m and 700 m ASL. Plant height, neck diameter, leaf number, leaf area, top fresh weight and top dry weight were significantly increased in growing of extremely early-maturing type onion at 60m ASL. Bulb/neck diameter ratio increased rapidly under the same temperature regime. The diameter and weight of the bulb were also the largest at 60m ASL during the bulb growth period (daily mean temperature of $12.5^{\circ}C$). At 60m ASL, there was the highest bulb size like a height, diameter and weight of bulb related directly on onion yield in the bulb growth period from March 16 to April 14. In contrast, yield and bulb quality were considerably decreased at 700m ASL during the bulb growth stage (daily mean temperature of $8.4^{\circ}C$). The quantity of extremely early-maturing type onion has gradually decreased as the daily average temperature drops below $12.5^{\circ}C$ during the bulb growth stage (March 16 to April 14). As a result, the lower temperature (daily mean temperature below $12.5^{\circ}C$) during the bulb growth stage significantly decreased the size and quantity of bulb in direction proportion.
