A Review for Development Strategy of Gyeongin Port (경인항의 발전 전략에 대한 소고)

  • As competition in domestic and overseas ports intensify, new and small domestic ports are realizing certain limitations to independently secure competitiveness. This study collected data over 60 months with five modifications for container and general cargo volume around Gyeongin Port. Short-period (12 months) cargo volume was forecasted, which revealed the need for a middle-to-long-term development plan. First, the hinterland logistics complex of Gyeongin Port is expected to contribute to the coastal maritime facility through the quasi-public system for fishery product transportation and passenger services. It proposes to achieve this by opening channels to and from China for precision machinery, home network systems, LEDs, and machine industry items. second, specializing the ultra-light cargo transport route, and connecting the coastal island areas of the 5 West Sea Islands to Ara Waterway (Integrated Fishery Product Center of the 5 West Sea Islands). Third, on the basis of organic cooperation of government? local government ? port, the incentive and pre-circular support system would be required, and lastly, it shall carry out the adjustment of functions in nearby ports and specialization strategy simultaneously through the integrated operation of the ports in the capital areas.

A Plan to Promote Jeonnam Region's Port Logistics through Establishment of a Logistics Network (물류네트워크 구축을 통한 전남권 항만물류 활성화 방안)

  • This paper outlines a plan to promote South Jeonnam region's logistics capability in connection with the regional logistics bases such as Gwangyang Port, Jangseong Integrated Freight Terminal, Mokpo Port and Muan International Airport. The capability of regional innovation bodies, and industrial innovation generally, needs to be improved by establishing a systematic regional innovation plan. Smaller import and export logistics bases, presently scattered in downtown Gwangju and its suburban area, need to be integrated as soon as possible, in advance of the completion of a traffic network connecting all of the triangle logistics bases. Moreover, plans to develop Muan International Airport to the status of a hub airport need to be established, and its function as an air freight terminal should be strengthened. Gwangyang Port and Mokpo Port should be developed as Korea's key harbors with international logistics bases the two ports, presently conducting simple cargo work, should be transformed into general logistics ports conducting logistics, assembling, trading, and international business by developing their surrounding areas.

Alternatives for Entering into the Chinese Market by Smaller-Sized Korean Logistics Enterprises (우리나라 중소물류기업의 중국진출 활성화 방안)

  • The growth of Chinese logistics market has brought many logistics enterprises enter into the chinese market. The purpose of this study is to suggest some alternatives for activating enter into chinese market for smaller-sized korean logistics enterprise. First of all, in order to achieve such a purpose, factors for activation through literature survey and previous studies are analyzed. After that, questionnaire survey are carried out. Also factor analysis and reliability test based on the questionnaire results are performed. Main findings are suggested as followings. First, in order to activate entering the chinese market, it is drawn out that possessing of logistics infrastructure and understanding of culture of chinese relationship are most important. Second, market information and reform of management system, inspection and customs clearance are suggested as less important.

  • Today's individual firms no longer compete as solely autonomous entities, but rather as supply chain. As such the competitive position of a port is not only determined by its internal strengths but also it is also affected by its links in a global supply chin. In other words, port competitiveness is becoming increasingly dependent on external coordination and control of the whole supply chain. The main purpose of this paper is to examine how a port embeds itself into supply chain in order to strengthen its competitive position by focusing on Dubai port case. This paper found that Dubai port used three phases-insertion, integration and dominance-as a strategies for how it can embedded into global supply chain successfully. Dubai's global supply chain strategies give some implications for the further development of the Port of Gwangyang. First, the Port of Gwangyang should fully utilize symbiotic relationship with Gwangyang free Economic Zone. Second, the integration between Korea Container Terminal Authority and GYFEZ can be recommended for fast decision-making and providing a one-stop-service. Finally, Gwangyang should pursue an aggressive supply chain strategy, aims at dominance in the regional port network through port alliance with small and medium ports in neighboring area.

A Study on Analysis of Container Liner Service Routes Pattern Using Social Network Analysis : Focused on Busan Port (사회연결망 분석을 이용한 컨테이너 정기선 항로 패턴 분석에 관한 연구 : 부산항을 중심으로)

  • The port industry is an important national industry which significantly affects Korea's imports and exports which are centered on economic structure. For instance, the Port of Busan, which handles 75% of domestic container freight volume, is expected to become increasingly critical for container liner routes. For this reason, there have been continued efforts to expand freight service to attract international freight volume. This study analyzes the structural characteristics of the port network connected to the Port of Busan by analyzing the pattern of the container liner route from 2012 to 2016 by using social network analysis. According to the Port of Busan's liner route network, the port with the highest degree of centrality, closeness centrality, and betweenness centrality was found to be the Port of Singapore. The comparison of Busan's annual container handling rank by countries and the port center network analysis of Port of Busan rank was found to be different. As a result, it was established that China's East Port, which occupies a high percentage of the volume of cargo handled by Port of Busan, is not a hub port of Busan when viewed on the Busan's container terminal liner network. In addition, even if the number of Port of Busan container liner service increases, it is estimated that the vessels to be added to the fleet will be limited to small to medium sized, or that Busan port has characteristic of a feeder port for the Port of Singapore, according to the network.

Development of a voyage performance monitoring system based on ENC for small and medium-sized vessels (전자해도 기반 중소형선박 항해 성능 모니터링 시스템 개발)

  • This research aims to develop a voyage performance monitoring system based on international standards. The developed system is equipped with an electronic navigational chart(ENC) that provides onshore and offshore information, as well as supports standardized interfaces with navigational equipment, such as a gyro compass, a differential global positioning system(DGPS), and an automatic identification system(AIS), to monitor the navigation route in real time. In addition, the proposed system adopts a car navigation system to provide a graphical user interface, an intuitive menu-driven configuration, and an easy guide for safer sea navigation. The system, interfaced with the gyro compass and DGPS, was verified without any data loss, and passed a test conducted under extreme conditions by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme(KOLAS). Finally, the system contributes to preventing collision of vessels and minimizing casualties by maximizing the convenience of mariners which a conventional system does not provide.

Model Development for Increasing Shippers′ Attraction of Small and Medium Ports: With the Focus on Kunsan Ports (중소형항만의 화주유인증대를 위한 모형개발에 관한 연구 - 군산항을 중심으로-)

  • Although the small and medium ports are actually competing with various strategies, the definition and structural understanding of small and medium ports are not known very much. Therefore this study has launched from this fact, and has the objective of obtaining the structural model for increasing shippers' attraction of small and medium ports. The process began by abstracting the components that composed the success factors through recent research, and grouping it by FA(Factor Analysis) method. Also, by using the FSM(Fuzzy Structural Modeling) method to understand the structure of the grouped components, and the structural model for increasing shippers' attraction of small and medium ports was able to obtain as the result. When analyzing the obtained structural model, easiness of shipment, connection to hubport and efficiency of hinterland network came out to be the most important component groups.

  • Along with the increase in global volume of goods, logistics companies are trying to reduce costs by increasing the size of ships carrying cargo, increasing the efficiency of quantitative equipment at ports, and unmanned electric vehicles on land. Korean naval ports are also facing the same situation as the global trend. In the past, small and medium-sized ships such as FF, PCC, and beheaded eagles are being retired for their longevity, and their positions are being replaced by large ships such as KDX, FFG, and LST-II. In particular, large ships such as Dokdo and the next light aircraft carriers are also being prepared. Unlike general merchant ships, naval ships require periodic inspections and preventive maintenance, so repair piers such as maintenance depots are in operation. The naval maintenance depot mainly uses trailers, trucks, and truck-type cranes to carry out loading and unloading of heavy ships, and the application or development of automation and unmanned equipment performed by the private sector is inadequate, and self-improvement cases are also very weak. This study aims to improve the efficiency of the military logistics system through research on the logistics system such as transport, storage and unloading of heavy goods and maintenance products of naval ships.

  • 최근 소형선박의 선체 재료로써 기존의 FRP선이 갖는 환경문제와 자원의 재활용 및 선체중량경감의 측면에서 소형선박을 중심으로 알루미늄선으로의 전환이 이루어져 왔지만, 알루미늄에 대한 용접 기능공 및 기술이 부족하여 건조 공정에 많은 시간과 비용이 소요되어 중소조선소에선 알루미늄선체 건조에 많은 애로 점을 가지고 있다. 이에, 본 연구를 통해 알루미늄선체의 구조부재 제작시 용접에 의한 공정을 압출성형 기법으로 대체하고 알루미늄선체의 용접에 소요되는 높은 인건비와 시간을 절약하여 원가 절감의 효과를 도모하며 또한 알루미늄선박 일체형 구조부재의 경량화 기법과 한국선급의 알루미늄선체 강도 기준을 적용하여 표준화된 구조부재의 압출성형 기법을 정립하고자 한다.
