In this research, the early-age movements of joint at JPCP(Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement) were measured by field tests. The field tests were carried out for 5 days just after concrete placement, for 1 day after 52 and 72 days on Chung-Ang Expressway construction site in Dan-yang on the 28th and 29th of May 2001. The joint movements were measured by demec gauge and clip gauge. The results of regression analysis for the data measured during early 5 days showed that the joints of No.4, No.5, No.6, No.10, No.13, and No.15 could be considered as a moving joint. From data analysis on july 20, the joints of No.2, No.9, and No.10 showed the significant correlations from the minus value of coefficient of regression. As a result of regression data on August 8, joint movements occurred at all joints. Joint freezing and closure could be judged from the regression analysis using joint opening and total temperature measured at field tests.

This paper investigates the effect of 3-dimensional FE models to evaluation results of jointed concrete pavements which is back-calculated by AREA method. Sensitivity of 3-dimensional FE models developed to simulate the behavior of real jointed concrete pavement are analyzed after compared with 2-dimensional FE models using ILLISLAB. In comparison with 2-dimensional models, influence of concrete contraction under loading plate and base layer on surface deflections is more than that of loading configuration. Deflections at 3-dimensional model between linear and nonlinear temperature distribution under same temperature difference are similar, but noticeable differences are investigated in low elastic modulus of foundations. Dynamic deflections under loading plate are larger than static deflections in high elastic modulus of foundation, but smaller in low elastic modulus. Lower dynamic modulus of subgrade reactions are backcalculated by dynamic deflections than by static deflections. But reverse trend is investigated in the backcalculated elastic modulus of concrete which describes trends of the field backcalculation values calculated from AREA method.
This study was conducted to investigate the early-age performance of precast pavements constructed by replacing existing asphalt pavements for a bus stop section in urban bus only lanes. The behavior monitoring items included the differences in the levels between asphalt and precast pavements at the entrance and exit of the precast pavement, joint widths and level differences between precast slabs, slab settlement, and skid resistance at the slab surface. The applicability of diamond grinding techniques was also investigated. The results of this study showed that the slab level, joint width, settlement, and skid resistance were not much changed as time passed, which implied that the precast pavements stably sustained vehicle loads. It was also found that employing diamond grinding could much improve the leveling between precast slabs and the surface skid resistance.

Roughness is the most important factor to maintain the road performance, and affects greatly on the design life in Jointed Plain Concrete pavements. Also, the factors the evaluate pavement‘s commonality is the three method such as functionality, safety and structural performance. In evaluating function of road, representative factors is the roughness, which has been used to determine maintenance time as key standard. As research for roughness is absence in pavement design. Applied roughness-model had a low-reliability in Korea. Therefore, it is needed to develop reliable model in road roughness. In this research, uniform specific is applied to distribute them after selecting the concrete pavements. Concrete pavement is divided by sections of 238. Total length of this sections has 281km and account for 16% of total road length in korean concrete pavements for selected sections. Considering the korean roughness-model, the evaluation of roughness is performed for the freezing index, average annual rainfall, condition for the base, the amount of traffic as well as spalling(%), cracking(%), age(year) at the selected section at the selected section. Also, additional sections is selected to evaluate various age which affects on the roughness. As a result of the analysis, it showed that spalling(%), cracking(%), age(year), and the condition of the base affected road roughness. When the correlation with the road roughness was analyzed, the reliable model for road roughness was proposed, and the ratio that can explain road roughness was R2-68.8% and P value-0 which is statistically meaningful.

Crack and seat method has been used in United States to prevent reflection cracks of overlay that may be caused by excessive movement at discontinuity of old concrete pavement. This method provide optium space of discontinuity by generating additional discontinuity in old concrete pavement. In this study the effect of various factors on the performance such as IRI and distress at after applying crack and seat method were investigated by using LTPP data.

This study focused on the development of an alternative stress estimation procedure to instantly calculate the critical stresses bonded concrete pavement. Closed form analysis is commonly used to analyze pavement structures. This type of analysis assumes linearelastic material properties and static loading conditions. The well-known ILLI-SLAB finite element program was used for the analysis. Bonded concrete overlay analyzed the stress distribution, behavior and load carrying capacity under track load is made evaluation standard of bonded concrete overlay. In the study, the following results were derived ; The properties of strength is that compress and 3-point bending strength of existing pavement is deteriorated with $184kg/cm^2$, $59kg/cm^2$ but compress and splitting tensile strength of overlay is satisfied with $465kg/cm^2$, $45kg/cm^2$. Load transfers is happen at adjacent slab by interlocking under track load. The stress distribution under interior, corner and edge load is described high loading position surrounding then loading position.
As well known, dowel bars are used to transfer traffic load acting on one edge to another edge of concrete slab in concrete pavement system. The dowel bars widely used in South Korea are round shape steel bar and they shows satisfactory performance under bending stress which is developed by repetitive traffic loading and environment loading. However, they are not invulnerable to erosion that may be caused by moisture from masonry joint or bottom of the pavement system. Especially, the erosion could rapidly progress with saline to prevent frost of snow in winter time. The problem under this circumstance is that the erosion not only drops strength of the steel dower bar but also comes with volume expansion of the steel dowel bar which can reduce load transferring efficiency of the steel dowel bar. To avoid this erosion problem in reasonable expenses, dowers bars with various materials are being developed. Fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) dower that is presented in this paper is suggested as an alternative of the steel dowel bar and it shows competitive resistance against erosion and tensile stress. The FRP dowel bar is developed in tube shape and is filled with high strength no shrinkage. Several slab thickness designs with the FRP dowel bars are performed by evaluating bearing stress between the dowel bar and concrete slab. To calculated the bearing stresses, theoretical formulation and finite element method(FEM) are utilized with material properties measured from laboratory tests. The results show that both FRP tube dowel bars with diameters of 32mm and 40mm satisfy bearing stress requirement for dowel bars. Also, with consideration that lean concrete is typical material to support concrete slab in South Korea, which means low load transfer efficiency and, therefore, low bearing stress, the FRP tube dowel bar can be used as a replacement of round shape steel bar.

The concrete slab on the foundation may have curling and warping deformations due to temperature gradient of its section. These deformations may change the support conditions of concrete slabs, and cause higher level of stresses tan expected. In this study, partial support conditions de to several temperature gradients are evaluated using FE analysis. Expecially, 3D FE model is adopted to evaluate the partial contact between the slab and the base which is hard to be simulated in 2D FE models. The discrepancies of analysis results increase at high temperature gradients. And it is concluded that 3D FE model can be used to simulate real support and temperature conditions.

Joints are provided in cement concrete pavements to control transverse and longitudinal cracking that occur due to restrained deformations caused by moisture and temperature variations in the slab. But the construction of joints reduces the load-carrying capacity of the pavement at the joints, and pavements have beem deteriorated by cracks at the slab edges along the joints due to traffic loads. Therefore, it is important to analyze the behavior of joints accurately in the design of cement concrete pavements. In this study, the mechanical behavior of cement concrete pavement slabs is analyzed by the plate-finite element model, and Winkler foundation model is adopted to analyze the subgrades. The load transfer mechanism of joints are composed of dowel action, aggregate interlocking, and tied-key action, and the analytical program is developed using these joint models.
Dowel-bar in the jointed concrete pavement has been designed and constructed by Foreign standard and experience in Korea. Timoshenko solution was evaluated for dowel bar design. However, various assumptions, Timoshenko solution evaluated only single dowel bar. Therefore, This study object is evaluated the guide line dowel size and arrangement that using the 3Dimensional Finite Element Method. Dowel bar behavior, Timoshenko solution and 3D FEM estimated used result. Dowel allowable stress and Friberg bearing stress estimated using result. The effects of Dowel Group Action were analyzed using Timoshenko range and Friberg range and 3D FEM.
