The Response Characteristics of the Hydrogen Peroxide Monopropellant Thruster as Injector and Catalyst Grain Size (인젝터 방식 및 촉매 알갱이 크기에 따른 과산화수소 단일추진제 추력기의 응답 특성)

  • The response characteristics of $H_2O_2$ monopropellant thrusters at a pulse mode were presented in this paper. A catalyst bed was fixed to $MnO_2$/$Al_2O_3$ to investigate the thruster design effect to response time. Three different thrusters (50 N class) having different injectors, ullage volumes, catalyst grain sizes, and reactor volumes were prepared to investigate the response characteristics. As a result, the ignition delay, pressure rising and tail-off time of case 2-2 thruster with 16-20 mesh catalyst size were 14, 108, 94 ms respectively, which were comparable to requirement of response time at commercial hydrazine thrusters.

The effect of MgO content on highly active Ni-MgO-$Al_2O_3$ catalysts prepared by homogeneous precipitation method (균일용액침전법으로 제조한 MgO 함량에 따른 고활성 Ni-MgO-$Al_2O_3$ 촉매에 대한 연구)

  • 용융탄산염 연료전지(MCFC)는 $650^{\circ}C$에서 작동하는 고온형 연료전지 시스템이다. 이 시스템은 천연가스 등을 개질하여 생산된 수소를 바로 전기로 생산할 수 있는 시스템으로 열효율이 높으며, 현재 대체 발전시스템으로 각광을 받고 있다. MCFC는 개질방식에 따라 내부개질 방식과 외부개질 방식이 있다. 내부개질 방식은 수소를 생산하는 개질기가 스택내부에 장착된 형식으로 천연가스를 스택내부에서 개질하여 바로 전기를 생산하는 방식이다. 이 내부개질반응에 사용되는 촉매로는 알루미나에 고함량 (약 50 wt.%)으로 담지된 니켈(Ni) 계열촉매이 주로 쓰이고 있다. 이 고함량으로 담지된 촉매는 대부분 높은 활성을 보인다. 비교적 낮은 온도 운전조건 (약 $580{\sim}620^{\circ}C$)을 가지는 MCFC 내부개질에 적용하기 위해서는 활성점인 니켈을 최대한 담지체에 고르게 분산 시켜야한다. 이를 위해서 MgO를 이용하여 촉매의 활성점을 높게 분산시키는 연구를 진행 하였다. 촉매를 제조하는 방법으로 요소(urea)를 이용한 균일용액침전법을 이용하였다. 니켈함량은 50 wt.%로 고정을 한 다음, MgO 양과 $Al_2O_3$ 양을 각각 0 ~ 45 wt.%와 5 ~ 50 wt.%로 조절하면서 촉매를 제조하여 그 특성들을 분석하였다. 물성을 비교하기 위해서, X-선 회절분석 (XRD) 및 TPR, 물리화학흡착 실험을 하였다. 촉매의 활성을 살펴보기 위해서, fresh 상태 및 피독 상태에서 메탄수증기 개질활성 실험을 실시하였다. MgO 함량이 없거나 적은 촉매에서는 높은 BET surface area와 작은 NiO, metallic Ni 결정 크기가 나타났다. 반면 MgO 함량이 높은 촉매에서 낮은 BET surface area와 비교적 큰 NiO, metallic Ni 결정 크기가 나타났다. 또한 XRD 분석에서 MgO 함량이 증가할 수 록 MgO 결정 피크가 명확히 나타났으며, $MgAl_2O_4$ 피크는 나타나지 않았다. TPR 분석에서 촉매들의 환원 피크를 측정한 결과, 저함량의 MgO를 포함한 촉매는 $700^{\circ}C$ 부근에 환원 피크가 관찰되었고 MgO가 고함량인 촉매는 환원 피크가 $400^{\circ}C$ 부근에서 관찰되었다. 촉매의 초기 fresh 상태에서의 활성은 고함량 MgO를 포함한 Ni-90M10A 샘플을 제외하고 모든 촉매가 거의 비슷하게 나타났다. 그러나 $K_2CO_3$ 피독 상태에서는 MgO 함량이 증가할 수 록 활성이 좋지 않았음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 MgO가 소량 포함된 촉매의 경우 fresh 상태에서는 우수한 물성과 활성을 보이지만, 피독상태에서는 MgO가 포함되지 않은 Ni-$Al_2O_3$ 촉매가 우수한 활성을 보였다.

Oxidative Dehydrogenation of 1-butene over BiFe0.65MoP0.1 Catalyst: Effect of Phosphorous Precursors (BiFe0.65MoP0.1 촉매 상에서 1-부텐의 산화탈수소화 반응 : 인 전구체의 영향)

  • The influence of phosphorous precursors, $NH_4H_2PO_4$, $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$, $H_3PO_4$, $(C_2H_5)_3PO_4$, and $P_2O_5$, on the catalytic performance of the $BiFe_{0.65}MoP_{0.1}$ catalysts in the oxidative dehydrogenation of 1-butene to 1,3-butadiene was studied. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, $N_2$-sorption, ICP, SEM and TPRO analyses. It was not observed big difference on the physical properties of catalysts in accordance with used different phosphorous precursors, however, the catalytic performance was largely depended on the nature of the phosphorous precursors. Of various precursors, the $BiFe_{0.65}MoP_{0.1}$ oxide catalyst, which was prepared from a phosphoric acid precursor, showed the best catalytic performance. Conversion and yield to butadiene of the catalyst showed 79.5% and 67.7%, respectively, after 14 h on stream. The cation of phosphorous precursors was speculated to affect the lattice structure of the catalysts during catalyst preparation and this difference was influenced on the re-oxidation ability of the catalysts. Based on the results of TPRO, it was proposed that the catalytic performance could be correlated with re-oxidation ability of the catalysts.

Catalytic Oxidation of Volatile Organic Compounds Over Spent Three-Way Catalysts (배기가스 정화용 폐 자동차 촉매를 이용한 휘발성 유기화합물의 제거)

  • The optimum regeneration conditions for the regeneration of three way spent catalysts (TWCs), which were taken from automobiles with different driving conditions, were investigated to evaluate the suitability as alternative catalysts for removing VOCs. The spent catalysts were washed with five different acids ($HNO_3$, $H_2SO_4$, $C_2H_2O_4$, $C_6H_8O_7$, and $H_3PO_4$) to remove contaminants and examine the optimum conditions for recovering the catalytic activity. The physicochemical properties of spent and its regenerated TWCs were evaluated by using nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, XRD, and ICP. The relative atomic ratios of contaminants and platinum group metals (PGMs) of the spent TWCs were greatly dependent on the placed positions. The main contaminants formed were lubricant oil additives and metallic components. Also, the regeneration treatment increased the PGMs ratio, BET surface area, and average pore diameter of TWCs. The catalytic activity results indicated that the spent TWCs have the possibility for removing VOCs. Moreover, the employed acid treatments greatly enhanced the catalytic activity of the spent TWCs. Especially, nitric and oxalic acids provided the most improvement in the catalytic behavior. The catalytic activities of the regenerated TWCs were significantly influenced by the containing platinum ratios rather than the removal ratios of contaminants and the changes in the structural properties offered by the acid treatments.

A Review on Recycling of Spent Autocatalyst in Korea (국내 자동차 폐촉매의 발생 및 재활용 현황)

  • Recycling of spent autocatalyst that includes the platinum group metals (PGMs), namely palladium, platinum and rhodium, is a very profitable endeavor. In order to ensure an efficient promotion of an appropriate policy-making and the technical development of the recycling process of spent autocatalyst in Korea, the generated amount, trading conditions, and recycling technology for spent autocatalyst were surveyed. The generated amount of spent autocatalyst was estimated by analyzing the domestic statistical data of registration & disuse of automobiles and the records of autocatalyst installation to new cars. The review of the recycling technology was carried out by surveying the recycling processes of 'Heesung PMTech Ltd.', which is the largest company in the recycling industry for spent autocatalyst in Korea. In addition to the above, some policy suggestions for the improvement of recycling industries for spent autocatalyst were offered.

Activity and Selectivity in Low Temperature for Dibenzothiophene Hydrodesulfurization based Zeolite Support (제올라이트 담체상의 디벤조티오펜 수첨탈황반응에서 저온활성 및 선택성)

  • Two types of CoMo/zeolite as well as $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ were prepared and their activities and selectivities of low-temperature dibenzothiophene(DBT) hydrodesulfurization(HDS) were studied in high pressure fixed bed reactor. The HDS activities of CoMo/zeolites were higher than that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at temperatures below $225^{\circ}C$ while they were lower than that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at temperatures higher than $275^{\circ}C$. The main products from $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ were biphenyl and cyclohexylbenzene. The product distribution of CoMo/zeolite catalysts was different from that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. It is speculated that DBT is converted to alkylcyclohexane over zeolite based catalysts through both alkylation and hydrogenation reactions. The crystal structure of molybdenum was $MoO_3$ in fresh zeolite support while mixtures of $MoO_3$ and $MoS_2$ were observed in the aged catalyst.

  • A basic study on the recovery of heavy metals such as Zn, Ni, Cu and Fe ions from wastewater was carried out with the spent iron oxide catalyst, which was used in the Styrene Monomer(SM) production company. The heavy metals could be recovered more than 98% with the spent iron oxide catalyst. The alkaline components of the spent catalyst could be precipitated the metal ions of the wastewater as metal hydroxides at the higher pH 10.6 in Ni, pH 8.0 in Cu, pH 6.5 in Fe, pH 8.5 in Zn. But the metal ions are adsorbed physically on the surface of the spent catalyst in the range of the pH of the metal hydroxides and pH 3.0, which is the isoelectric point of the iron oxide catalyst.

  • Chlorination of methane was carried out over the Pt/NaY zeolite catalysts having different dispersion and location. On the finely dispersed platinum particles inside the zeolite methylchloride was the sole product, while on the large platinum ones outside surface of the zeolite all four chloromethanes were produced. Besides the role of highly dispersed platinum particles, the confined volume of the supercages in the support seems to have played another role on the exclusive production of methylchloride by restricting the further chlorination.

  • Polymer Electrolyte Membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)의 촉매로는 주로 carbon을 지지체로 사용한 Pt/C 흑은 Pt alloy/C을 사용하게 된다. 이때 PEMFC의 상용화에 있어 촉매의 안정성은 상용화 실현에 있어 중요한 요인으로 인식되고 있다. 촉매의 성능 저하는 Pt의 활성 면적(Active surface area)의 감소가 원인으로 얘기되어 지고 있으며 이는 지지체로 사용한 탄소에 나노 크기로 분산되어 있던 Pt 입자가 커지면서 활성 면적이 감소되어 지기 때문이다. 이번 연구에서는 상용 Pt/C를 사용하여 Cyclic Voltammetry(CV)의 장기간 운전 및 다양한 조건 변화를 통하여 Pt입자의 크기 증가에 미치는 요인에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 이와 더불어 Linear Sweep Voltammety(LSV), TEM, 등을 통한 분석이 진행되었다.

  • 고분자전해질형 연료전지(PEMFC)는 다른 연료전지에 비해 소형전원에서부터 분산용전원에 이르기 까지 넓은 응용범위를 가지고 있다. 이러한 PEMFC의 응용범위 중 메탄올 개질반응을 통하여 발생된 수소를 이용하는 휴대용 PEMFC 시스템의 경우, 개질 시 발생하는 일산화탄소가 백금촉매를 피독시켜 연료전지의 성능을 저하시키는 주요 원인이다. 따라서 연료전지의 성능저하를 막기 위해서는 개질가스의 일산화탄소의 농도를 10ppm이하로 낮추는 것이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 개질가스의 일산화탄소 농도를 낮추기 위한 반응기를 설계 및 제작하였으며, 상용촉매를 사용하여 CO저감 성능실험을 하였다. 또한, PROX 촉매 및 methanation 촉매를 조합하여 사용함으로써 $140^{\circ}C{\sim}190^{\circ}C$ (약 $50^{\circ}C$)의 온도범위에서 일산화탄소의 농도 10ppm이하의 결과를 나타내었다.
