  • The purpose of this study was to develop, field test an instrument to assess secondary school students' conceptions of the nature of science. The instrument named Philosophical Perspectives Probe(PPP) is a pool of 24 multiple-choice items that address a wide range of philosophical topics of science. The statements and the choices of this instrument were derived from an analysis of various philosophical positions. The main philosophical systems of the instrument are inductivism, falsificationism, and relativism, respectively. Major distinctions depend on the issues of the criteria of demarcation, patterns of scienctific change, epistemological status of scientific knowledge, and the scientific methods. The researchers also offer teachers a new way of assessing and interpreting their students' conceptions on a wide variety of topics related to the nature of science.

  • As the information society gradually advances, various opinions overflow and their complexity increases. As the results, it was made more difficult to derive important issues and properly respond to those problems. Accordingly, it is necessary to get a handle on emerging problems in education in addition to existing discourses and issues. This study aimed at examining the issues of education by analyzing the petitions posted under 'parenting and education' category on National Petition board. In order to offer objective and detailed results, we employed the topic modeling based LDA algorithm, which is an effective method to extract topics in multiple documents. Nine topics were derived as the result of the analysis and the relationship among those topics was visualized. The values of this study exist in that the derived topics represent important issues that reflect the public opinions.

  • This study explores the corrections on the Korean and the U. S. daily newspapers for the characteristics and differences through the content analysis. For the research, Chosun Ilbo, Hankyoreh Shinmun, The New York Times and The San Francisco Chronicles are selected. The main differences between the Korean and American newspapers are as follows: Firstly, the average number of newspaper errors in Korean dailies are as half as little of those in the U. S. dailies. Secondly, regarding the subcategory of mistakes, the largest thematical number is the societal matters(36.0%), followed by politics(18.3%) and economy(12.1%) for the Korean newspapers. By contrast, errors in culture(17.4%) is the most frequently made by the American newspaper reporters and editors, followed by lifestyle(8.6%), and sports(7.0%). Thirdly, in terms of content of mistakes, errors in names(26.2%) that occurred the most, followed by misidentifications(18.1%) and misattribution(15.8%) for the Korean dailies; the errors in numbers(33.7%), spelling and typographical errors(12.1%) and date(5.6%) for the U. S. dailies. Fourthly, one of the critical reasons that mistakes occurred because Korean reporters are lack of double checking the stories; the U. S. reporters simply by overlooking the articles. Finally, the Korean newspapers make use of only two kinds of correction formats, while the U.S. newspapers use six different correction formats for their newspaper readers.

  • The main purpose of this study was to use semantic network analysis to examine the international trend of arts management and other studies pertinent to this field. The subject was based on 357 keywords listed on the abstract of 185 research papers in the International Journal of Arts Management. To examine the most current trends of arts management based studies the time frame was restricted from 2008 to 2017. To briefly summarize the result, first, 'museum' was the most frequently appeared keyword. This was followed by 'performing arts' and 'arts' with more than 20 appearances. 'Motion picture industry' and 'theater' were the next frequently appeared keywords. 'Customer behavior' and 'market strategy', keywords related to management, were also included in the high ranked group along with art related keywords. Second, yearly research trend shows that arts management has been regularly studied for past ten years with average of 19 research papers with about 53 keywords. Keywords such as 'museum' and 'performing arts' has been regularly studied for past ten years. 'Culture', 'theater' and 'motion pictures industry' does not regularly appear in the result of yearly research trend but nevertheless they have sparsely made an appearance along the past decade. 'Art gallery' has not been cited till 2011 but from 2012 it was regularly and continuously made an appearance in the yearly research trend. Overall, the yearly trend result shows that the trend of international arts management studies within IJAM, was at first centered on fine arts but as the time passed there has been diversified keywords related to management. Third, 'performing art' and 'art' has the highest link frequency(34). Fourth, density result was 0.039 which shows that the keyword density is not very high. Fifth, 'art', 'performing art', 'museum', 'theater' and 'brand' were positioned in the middle when looking at the visualized version of centrality result. This means that these five keywords has the highest centrality among other keywords.

  • In order to develop a semiautomatic support system that allows researchers concerned to efficiently analyze the technical trends for the ever-growing industry and market. This paper introduces a couple of Korean sentence generation models that can automatically generate definitional statements as well as descriptions of technical terms and concepts. The proposed models are based on a deep learning model called LSTM (Long Sort-Term Memory) capable of effectively labeling textual sequences by taking into account the contextual relations of each item in the sequences. Our models take technical terms as inputs and can generate a broad range of heterogeneous textual descriptions that explain the concept of the terms. In the experiments using large-scale training collections, we confirmed that more accurate and reasonable sentences can be generated by CHAR-CNN-LSTM model that is a word-based LSTM exploiting character embeddings based on convolutional neural networks (CNN). The results of this study can be a force for developing an extension model that can generate a set of sentences covering the same subjects, and furthermore, we can implement an artificial intelligence model that automatically creates technical literature.

  • This study is to inquire into the publishing situation and developmental plans of korean magazine of Joseon people (Korean) in China, About twenty types of magazines for Joseon people(Korean) in China have been published since the liberation of China. These magazines have mainly brought changes such as publication suspensions, reissuing, and renaming in reflection of reading classes and political influence. Also, when classified by topic, the mainstream includes magazines of political. cultural, and art fields. On one hand, difficulties in magazine publication come from a decrease in the Korean Chinese population, population movements, support reduction and abolition from the Chinese government and increases in material costs. To overcome this, Korean reading classes should be secured and a magazine composed in two languages(Chinese-Korean) should be published to pioneer active cultural exchange in and out of China, and various forms of support should be devised from Korea.
