Efficient Iris Region Detection (효율적인 홍채영역 검출)

  • 홍채인식 시스템에서 입력된 영상으로부터 정합(matching)에 사용될 홍채 영역을 추출해 내는 과정은 필수적인 과정으로 빠른 처리 속도와 정확성을 요구한다. 기존의 원형검출기나 허프(Hough) 변환을 이용한 방법 등은 홍채의 바깥쪽과 안쪽 경계를 비교적 정확하게 검출해내는 장점이 있으나 탐색영역이 커서 수행시 간이 매우 많이 걸리는 단점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이진화와 형태학적 연산(morphology)을 이용하는 새로운 탐색 영역 단축 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 기존의 홍채영역 검출 방법에 적용할 경우 수행 시간을 효율적으로 단축시킬 수 있다. 검출된 영역에 대해서 주성분 분석법(principal component analysis, PCA)을 이용해 매칭을 수행한 결과 약 95%의 인식율을 나타내었다.

  • 인간은 일상 생활에서 제스처, 표정과 같은 비언어적인 수단을 이용하여 수많은 정보를 전달한다. 따라서 자연스럽고 지적인 인터페이스를 구축하기 위해서는 제스처 인식에 관한 연구가 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 영상 시퀸스의 각 영상들이 가지고 있는 정적인 양이 아닌, 영상과 이웃하는 영상들의 변화량을 수치적으로 측정하고 이를 주성분 분석법(PCA : Principal Component Analysis)과 은닉 마르코프 모델(HMM : Hidden Markov Model)을 이용하여 인식하는 방법을 소개한다.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to classify human facial impression using face image. The features that represent the shape of eye, jaw and face are used. The proposed method employs PCA, LDA and SVM in series. Human face has been classified for 8 facial impressions. The experiments have been performed for many face images, and show encouraging result.

  • This paper describes one of the hot issues in solar cell studies, dye-sensitized solar cell. DSSC is a kind of photoelectrochemical cells. Therefore, it is quite different from the conventional solar cells which originate from pn semiconductor theory, although its mechanism can be explained with the theory. This paper describes the difference between the conventional semiconductor approaches and a newly adapted one for DSSC. Especially, electrochemical analysis methods such as electrochemical impedance analysis and cyclic voltammogram are briefly introduced, which are commonly used for DSSC analysis.

  • In this paper, we describe an algorithm which can automatically recognize human gesture for Human-Robot interaction. In early works, many systems for recognizing human gestures work under many restricted conditions. To eliminate these restrictions, we have proposed the method that can represent 3D and 2D gesture information simultaneously, APM. This method is less sensitive to noise or appearance characteristic. First, the feature vectors are extracted using APM. The next step is constructing a gesture space by analyzing the statistical information of training images with PCA. And then, input images are compared to the model and individually symbolized to one portion of the model space. In the last step, the symbolized images are recognized with HMM as one of model gestures. The experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm is efficient on gesture recognition, and it is very convenient to apply to humanoid robot or intelligent interface systems.

  • This study developed a gesture recognition method using Kinect sensor and proposed a fighting action control interface. To extract the pattern features of a gesture, it used a method of extracting them in consideration of a body rate based on the shoulders, rather than of absolute positions. Although the same gesture is made, the positional coordinates of each joint caught by Kinect sensor can be different depending on a length and direction of the arm. Therefore, this study applied principal component analysis in order for gesture modeling and analysis. The method helps to reduce the effects of data errors and bring about dimensional contraction effect. In addition, this study proposed a modified matching algorithm to reduce motion restrictions of gesture recognition system.

  • When fires occur in high-rise buildings, it is difficult to determine whether each escape route is safe because of complex structure. Therefore, it is necessary to provide residents with escape routes quickly after determining their safety. We propose a method to measure the visibility of the escape route due to the smoke generated in the fire by analyzing the images. The visibility can be easily measured if the density of smoke detected in the input image is known. However, this approach is difficult to use because there are no suitable methods for measuring smoke density. In this paper, we use principal component analysis by extracting a background image from input images and making it training data. Background images and smoke images are extracted from images given as inputs, and then the learned principal component analysis is applied to map of as a new feature space, and the change is calculated and the visibility due to the smoke is measured.

Morphological Characteristics and Classification of Zizyphus Cultivars in Korea by Multivariative Analysis (다변량 분석에 의한 국내산 대추나무 품종의 형태적 특성과 유연관계)

  • The objectives of this study, an analysis of fruit and leaf morphological characteristics among the five Zizyphus cultivars could be used for the investigation of cultivars classification and could provide information to make out the UPOV TG(Test Guidelines). ANOVA tests showed that there were statistically significant differences in all fruit and leaf morphological characteristics among the five Zizyphus cultivars at 1% level. But, for kernel characteristics, differences were statistically non-significant among the cultivars. Approximately, the Wolchul and Boeun cultivars showed larger and smaller values in overall characteristics and cultivars, respectively. The results of principal component analysis(PCA) for the fruit and leaf morphological characteristics showed that the first for principal components(PC's) explained about 65.3% of the total variation. The first PC was correlated with those characteristics that were mainly related to the terminal leaf length(TLL), leaf length(LL), fruit length(FL), terminal leaf width(TLW), and leaf petiole length(LPL). The second and third PC was mainly correlated with the terminal leaf morphological index(TLMI). Therefore, these characteristics were important to analysis of the fruit and leaf morphological characteristics and classification among the five Zizyphus cultivars. Cluster analysis using UPGMA method based on principal components showed that five Zizyphus cultivars could be clustered into two groups. Group I comprises Mudung, Wolchul, and Bokjo and Geumsung cultivars, Group II is Boeun cultivar. These results well similar to that of principal component analysis.

Principal Component Analysis of Marine Engine Troubles (선박기관사고의 주성분분석)

  • The engine room of ship is a synthetic system being composed of many machineries. Therefore, the reliability and safety of the all system of machinery is as important as each machine. In this paper, in order to reudce engine troubles while operation and to contribute in developing a high reliable marine engine the author analysed the factors of marine engine troubles by principal com-ponent analysis method. Analysed data are marine engine troubles of sea casualties from 1980 to 1985. It is found that the major part of marine engine troubles resulted from personal mistake, and also the troubles of shaft, propeller and cylinder occupied considerable proportion.

  • In this paper, the factors of 1680 marine casualties occurred during 1986-1988 are analysed by the Principal Component Analysis. The main results are as follows: 1. Most of marine casualties result from the human factors such as careless operation and insufficient engine maintenance. Engine trouble is main part of accidents and great number of accidents is rated for fishing vessels. 2. Accidents are serious in case of cargo ships, passenger ships and tankers from the point of view of the damage of human life and properties. On the other hand, those are not so serious matter in case of fissing vessels and governmental vessels. 3. Grounding, collision and capsizal mainly result from careless operation, however material defect result in flooding
