A Numerical Study on the Flow Characteristics of Kitchen Hood System (주방용 후드시스템의 유동특성에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • This study aims deriving analysis the flow characteristic of kitchen hood system with using 3-D numerical analysis method and improving the system to expel pollutes more efficiently. This system is applied with $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model and using incompressibility viscosity flow range and boundary condition which are related to Bossinesq approximation following density variation in control volume. To understand the flow characteristics of four models, this study only focuses on velocity field, temperature field, and concentration field varying with followings whether separation plate is set or not and the shapes of separation plates. The quantity of air, speed of exhaust fan and temperature and concentration of heating source are concerned as constant values.

  • 최근 미세먼지에 관한 관심이 점점 커지고 있다. 이러한 미세먼지 중 우리가 가장 쉽게 접하는 종류에는 요리 진행 시 발생하는 미세먼지가 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 사용자의 수동적인 작동이 필요하지 않고, 요리 여부와 미세먼지 농도 정도를 파악하여 자동으로 주방 후드를 제어하는 모듈을 구성하여 많은 사람이 미세먼지의 위험 없이 주방을 이용할 수 있도록 하고자 한다.

To understand the flow characteristics of four models, this study only focuses on velocity field, temperature field, and concentration field varying with followings whether separation plate is set or not and the shapes of separation plates. The quantity of air, speed of exhaust fan and temperature and concentration of heating source are concerned as constant values. The three models having different shapes have one exhaust port and the model which has the vent at the closest position to where pollutes are generated is discovered to be the most efficient model. Compare to the initial model (having no separation plate), it was $1.4-1.9\%$ more efficient at temperature distribution and $9.4-11.9\%$ more at $CO_2$ concentration distribution.

  • This study regards distributions of flow in the ventilation system used in the kitchen hood in a ship. In this study, for describing the flow in the ventilation system, three-dimensional steady-state turbulence was assumed for the governing equation. When the plume was formed, three gases, CO, CO2, and HCL, in the flow field of the hood were considered as the plume, and it was assumed that the sum of concentrations of the gases was 100%. As a result, it could be confirmed that the plume was smoothly discharged when the flow rate of the supply was ten times lower than that of the exhaust.

  • Kitchen hoods are limited in discharging all contaminants produced during cooking. Contaminants that have not been discharged can rise to the upper part of the kitchen and become stacked. To solve this problem, there is a way to increase the air volume of the kitchen hood, but there are limits, so a new system is required. This study proposes the Duct System (IADK : Inducing Airflow Duct system for Kitchen hood )through 3D printers and experiments. To do this, the pressure is measured to verify the three levels of air volume provided by the kitchen hood. To check the degree of loss of flow in the existing kitchen hood system, install flexible ducts alone to measure the pressure. Change the internal diameter and type of connection of the IADK and measure the pressure. The air pressure, static pressure difference, and loss factor are calculated and analyzed using the pressure measured through the experiment.

  • This paper studied a method for minimizing the noise level emitted from range hoods. Range hoods were used for discharging various hazardous materials generated during household cooking to the outdoors, thus preventing them from being diffused through rooms in the house since they are the main cause of air pollution within dwellings. This study assumed that static pressure was not applied at the discharge outlet of the range hood. As such, the range hood was installed on the wall without the use of a connecting duct or other connectors attached to its discharge outlet. The vibration having the greatest influence on the noise level was determined by measuring the vibration at the front side of the hood where the acoustic omission was at its maximum. A method was then proposed to reduce the noise by simply suppressing the vibration at the vibrating part.

  • This paper introduces a study for the noise reduction of a range hood for household. Generally, range hoods have a built-in sirocco fan from which harsh noises are generated. Though the harsh noises have low noise level, these kinds of noises make most of the users nervous. For the purpose of noise reduction, in this study, a perforated plate system is installed in the fan housing of range hood. From the experimental results, it is confirmed that the noise level emitted from the range hood was decreased more than 10dB(A) in all 1/3 octave bands due to the effect of noise reduction by perforated plate systems.
