The purpose of this study was to explore socio-economic effects of participation in weekend farming. This study was carried out through review of literature and descriptive survey. The data for the study were gathered from 135 randomly sampled urban people who participated in the weekend farming activity. Small scale weekend farming activity of the urban people led them to better quality of life in terms of educational and socio-economic conditions. The major findings of the study were as follows; 1) Weekend farming supplied fresh vegetables to participating urban households, however, showed relatively low economic effects. 2) Participating urban people have experienced new relationships with other participants and could better understood their family members of weekend farming activity. 3) Participating urban people responded that they could improve their quality of life through weekend farming activity. 4) Weekend farming activity proved to be a useful educational experience for children and youth.

Interest in weekend farming has been increasing recently among city-dwellers although it is still only in the beginning stages. Weekend farming has been increasing recently among city-dwellers although it is still only in the beginning stages. Weekend farms provide people with new activities and also help to preserve green areas within the city. It is necessary to understand what weekend farm users think and what problems they encounter in order to increase the use of these farms. For this reason, we studied 16 weekend farms in Seoul managed by the Rural Guidance Office and the Agricultural Cooperative. We distributed 24 questionnaires by hand and these were later returned by mail. The questionnaire asked weekend farmers about their motivation for using the farms, about their motivation for using the farms, frequency of use, level of satisfaction, current state of housing and the sort of plants they cultivated, among other things. We found that most of them live in apartments and have little access to green areas,. Weekend farm users were generally satisfied. However, they had a lack of gardening knowledge and reported that facilities such as toilets and water service were unsatisfactory. Political support is needed from the government in order to improve weekend farms. There needs to be a wider range of farm sizes and an increase in the uses of the farms. If these improvements occur, investment in and the development of weekend farming will increase and weekend farms will take root in Korea.

The purpose of this paper is to find out and discuss methods of development applicable in rural agricultural area. It is expected that rural economy will decrease in the future because of the structural problems of agricultural economy itself. The demands of rural communities for an improvement in the living standards should continue to increase but the present living environments remain poor and are at a relatively low level. This investigation focuses on the analysis of development types in rural areas in Japan. Various methods of development must be used considering specific features of each rural village. The village people's participation must be needed for success of certain methods of development. An example is the type of greentourism and type of exchange between the urban and the rural areas. Other types of development require enormous expense for construction of facilities. Various strategies and methods of development are needed in rural agricutural area in Korea. The simple method of development that is widely used currently is not really helpful to the development of rural agricultural economy.

The purpose of this study was to set and analyze the utilization of the substituted agricultural land in the Dongtan new town in Hwa-seong city. The results of this study were as follows. In the respect of the land efficiency and utilization, the need of the agricultural land in the Dongtan has shrunk. Therefore, the land should be reconsidered and developed as other purposes. The land could be developed as the weekend farm for the city people. The weekend farm is currently gaining popularity because the citizens want to not only experience the nature but also get a healthy food. So, the land in the new town could provide them with a good place. And the Han-ok(Traditional Korean style housing) is recently in the limelight of many people because of its healthy function and the special aesthetic, so the agricultural land of Dongtan could be a great opportunity to develop the Han-ok village. Lastly, the logistics center for agricultural products could be proposed. Because the traffic condition of the new town is satisfactory, the land is idealistic as the logistics center which connect the capital with the local. These practical uses of agricultural land in the Dongtan new town will be able to provide opportunities to improve the quality of life in the area and develop the land more efficiently.

본 연구는 최근 세종시 조성으로 도시성격과 환경이 급변하고 있는 연기군 지역의 폐교를 대상으로 지역의 특성을 고려한 폐교의 활용을 모색하고 대안을 제시하고자 하였다. 이에 연기군 지역 폐교의 활용실태와 입지요인에 따른 시설의 물리적 요소 분석, 관리자 면담조사를 통하여 세종시 조성에 따른 환경 변화에 대응하는 폐교활용의 대안을 제시하였다. 첫째, 기존 농어촌지역의 폐교와 달리 연기지역의 폐교는 세종시가 인접해 있는 도시적 특성을 갖고 있다. 이에 따라 세종시 인근의 폐교는 세종시 교육시설과 연계한 교육연수원, 문화체험시설 등 교육프로그램과 연계한 시설활용이 바람직하다. 둘째, 세종시에서 상대적으로 접근성이 낮은 연기지역 폐교는 마을 단위의 공동체를 중심으로 활용해야 하며, 세종시 입주민과 함께 활용할 수 있는 요소를 고려해야 한다. 노인정, 마을회관, 공동창고, 보건지소 등 편의 및 커뮤니티 시설을 주된 용도로 활용하며 아울러 세종시 입주민의 이용이 가능하도록 주말농장, 농촌체험시설 등의 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 이는 도시와 농촌의 요구를 모두 수용할 수 있는 대안으로 주민의 직접참여를 유도하여 관리 부실을 방지하고 농촌과 도시의 교류가 가능한 대안으로 폐교활용의 새로운 가능성을 보여준다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the general characteristics of the elderly who participate in the planting activities of weekend farms and the effect of the planting activity levels on the subjective health, depression, and human relationships of the elderly. Data were collected and analyzed using subjective health, depression, and human relationship measures that can represent physical, mental, and social health. The main results were as follows. The educational level, the status of spouses, and the number of diseases of the general characteristics of the elderly who participated in the weekend farm showed significant differences in all subjective health, depression, and human relationships. Plant cultivation activity level was positively correlated with the subjective health of the elderly and had a significant effect. The higher the level of plant cultivation activity, the more positively it affected the human relationship. Plant cultivation activity was negatively correlated with the depression of the elderly.

본 연구는 다문화 시대의 사회통합과 소통을 위한 정원활동에 대한 이론적 고찰을 토대로 하여 정원활동 프로그램을 개발하기 위한 원예식물 선호도와 원예활동에 대한 선호도를 조사하여 정원활동에 대한 프로그램을 개발하고자 하는데 있다. 본 연구에서 공동체 정원을 활용한 다문화 시대의 소통과 통합을 위한 정원활동 프로그램의 개발을 위하여 정원활동 및 원예 식물 선호도를 조사한 결과, 다문화인의 경우 꽃장식 및 공예활동, 실내 정원 및 실외 정원에서 식물기르기 활동 순으로 높게 조사되었으며, 내국인의 경우 식물을 이용한 요리활동, 실내 정원 및 실외정원에서 식물기르기 활동순으로 높게 나타났다. 식물 선호도에 있어서는 다문화인의 경우 식물 원산지와 다문화인의 본국의 환경적인 일치성으로 인해서 관엽식물이 가장 높게 조사되었으며 내국인의 경우에는 친환경 농산물에 대한 관심 및 최근 도시농업, 베란다 원예, 주말농장에 대한 수요 증가로 채소류에 대한 선호도가 높은 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 정원활동과 식물 분류에 대한 선호 결과를 토대로 소통과 사회통합을 위한 정원활동 프로그램은 정원 활동에의 가치를 생명존중의 가치, 돌봄에 의한 배려의 가치, 식물윤리에 의한 가치 3가지 영역으로 구분하였다. 구성된 8회기의 정원활동 프로그램이 다문화 시대의 사회통합과 소통에 적합한 프로그램인지를 알아보기 위하여 정원 및 다문화 분야 전문가를 대상으로 타당성 검증을 한 결과, 본 프로그램의 효과성을 입증할 수 있었다.

최근 안전한 먹거리 생산과 치유, 교육 등 다양한 목적으로 도시농업에 참여하는 인구가 늘어남에 따라 도시텃밭의 농약, 비료 사용 등으로 인한 환경오염과 해충 피해, 농산물의 건강성 등 다양한 문제가 제기되고 있다. 따라서 도시텃밭 작물의 생육 증진, 잔류농약 문제 해결 등 농산물 안정성 증가에 기여하고자 식물추출물을 활용한 엇갈이 배추의 생육특성을 조사하였다. 선행연구 결과를 바탕으로 자원식물류 5종(쇠비름, 소리쟁이, 명아주, 박주가리, 환삼덩굴)과 허브류 5종(메리골드, 서던우드, 캐모마일, 애플민트, 로즈마리), 식용작물류 5종(양파, 마늘, 부추, 차즈기, 들깨) 등 추출 대상 식물 15종을 60℃에서 3일간 건조시켜 마쇄하였다. 이후 각 식물체 100g을 35% 에틸알코올 1,000ml에서 7일간 추출하였다. 추출물은 30%로 희석하여 주 2회씩 총 3주간 배추에 엽면살포하였다. 엽면적, 엽수, 지상부 및 지하부 생체중 등 생육특성을 7일 간격으로 조사하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 엽면적과 엽폭은 환삼덩굴 처리구에서 104.58cm²와 9.80cm로 가장 넓었고, 엽장은 박주가리 처리구에서 25.24cm로 가장 길었으며, 지하부 생체중은 메리골드 처리구에서 6.24g으로 가장 높았다. 엽수는 애플민트와 마늘 처리구에서 6.4개로 가장 많았고, 지상부 생체중과 엽록소는 집단 간 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 전반적으로 무처리 대비 엽면적 22%, 엽폭 18%의 유의한 생장 차이를 보인 환삼덩굴 추출물과 엽면적 12%, 엽장 17%의 생장 차이를 보인 박주가리 추출물, 엽면적 10%, 엽폭 9%의 생장 차이를 보인 양파 추출물이 엇갈이 배추 생육에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과 환삼덩굴, 박주가리, 양파 등 일부 식물추출물이 엇갈이 배추의 생육을 증진시킬 수 있는 것으로 나타나 주말농장 등 도시텃밭에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다. 향후 식물추출물의 효과성을 증진시키기 위해 추출 방법과 적정 농도, 보관 시기 등에 대한 연구와 함께 도시텃밭 해충방제 효과를 알아보기 위한 약해검정과 살충효과를 분석할 필요성이 있다.
