Video camera can be a useful tool to capture images for use in colorimeter. However the RGB signals generated by different video camera are not equal for the same scene. The video camera for use in colorimeter is characterized based on the CIE standard colorimetric observer. One method of deriving a colorimetric characterization matrix between camera RGB output signals and CIE XYZ tristimulus values is least squares polynomial modeling. However it needs tedious experiments to obtain camera transfer matrix under various white balance point for the same camera. In this paper, a new method to obtain camera transfer matrix under different white balance by using 3${\times}$3 camera transfer matrix under a certain white balance point is proposed. According to the proposed method camera transfer matrix under any other white balance could be obtained by using colorimetric coordinates of phosphor derived from 3${\times}$3 linear transfer matrix under the certain white balance point. In experimental results, it is demonstrated that proposed method allow 3${\times}$3 linear transfer matrix under any other white balance having a reasonable degree of accuracy compared with the transfer matrix obtained by experiments.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the radiation protection effect of blueberries. The experimental animals used in this study were 8-week-old 21 SD male rats weighed 280-300 g. The animals were set to a normal group (A), a 5 Gy control group (B), and a 5 Gy experimental group (C) of seven rats each, and (50 mg/kg/day) of physiological saline solution of blueberries were orally administered twice a day with an oral dose of (200 mg/kg/day) for seven days and 5 Gy of radiation was irradiated in the case of groups B and C. As a result, it was identified that there was significance in white blood cells in this study (p<0.000). There was no significant difference in red blood cells or platelets. When examined in detail, among white blood cells (WBC), neutrocytes were found to be significantly different among the three groups: normal, control, and experimental groups (p<0.004). Lymphocytes were also found to be statistically significantly different among the three groups (p<0.000). Monocytes were not found to be statistically significantly different (p<0.483). When red blood cells (RBC) were examined, hemoglobin (HGB) was not found to be statistically significant different among the three groups (p<0.291). Hematocrit (HCT) was not found to be statistically significantly different among the three groups, either (p<0.564). Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) was found to be statistically significantly different among the three groups (p<0.001). Mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) was also found to be statistically significantly among the three groups (p<0.028). Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) was found to be statistically significantly different among the three groups(p<0.020). Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) was not found to be statistically significantly different among the three groups (p<0.09). When platelets (PLT) were examined in detail, mean platelet volume (MpV) was found to be statistically significantly different among the three groups (MpV) (p<0.04). In conclusion, based on this study, blueberries are considered to have radiation protection effects.

We conducted a 4 × 4 diallel cross-mating test using 934 chickens from four grandparent stock lines to develop a new synthetic breed of Korean native chicken. The mean values, combining ability, and reciprocal effects on survival rate, body weight, and hen-day egg production were analyzed. In phenotypes, most chickens have yellowish-brown, reddish-brown and mixed color feathers. The average survival rate was 86.8±12.3%, with the highest in YH combination. Specific combining ability (SCA) had a greater effect on survival rate than general combining ability (GCA), and the SCA of HY combination was the highest. The 16 cross-combinations were distinctly divided into three weight groups according to their genetic characteristics. At 12 weeks of age, GCA showed a greater effect on weight than SCA, and the SCA of FH combination was the highest. The age at first egg laying was 157 days, and the crosses reached sexual maturity faster than the pure lines. The egg production rate was highest in SY at 79.5±2.1%. The GCA and SCA for hen-day egg production were similar, and the SCA was highest in the HS and FY combinations. The reciprocal effect showed that the offspring's egg production rate was high when S and Y were maternal parents in almost all combinations. In conclusion, FH and HF combinations, which have excellent growth performance, are the most desirable paternal parent stock strains, and FY, FS, HY, and SY combinations, which have excellent laying performance with moderate weight, are the preferred maternal strains.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of Bacillus subtilis-based probiotics and oregano essential oil on the production performance, egg quality, and intestinal morphology of late-phase laying hens (69-weeks). A total of 150 laying hens of 69-week-old were randomly allotted into 6 treatment groups with 5 replicates of 5 birds in each replicate. Laying hens were divided into high (H) and average (A) egg production groups prior to the trial. The hens in each group were supplemented with Bacillus subtilis, or oregano essential oil: CON, a basal diet; BS, basal diet plus 3 × 108 CFU/kg feed Bacillus subtilis; OEO, basal diet plus 0.3 g/kg feed oregano essential oil. Egg performance, blood characteristics, egg quality, and intestinal morphology of the late-phase laying hens were evaluated. Both BS and OEO significantly enhanced (P<0.05) egg production compared to CON in high egg production. The blood characteristics indicated no significant differences based on the egg production and the supplementation of BS and OEO in the late-phase laying hens. The eggshell strength was significantly improved (P<0.05) in both OEO compared to both CON. A significantly decreased (P<0.05) the villus height to crypt depth ratio (VH/CD) in the ileum compared to H, and in the treatment groups supplemented with BS and OEO, VH/CD showed a significant increase (P<0.05) compared to both CON. These results suggest that the supplementation of Bacillus subtilis and oregano essential oil in the diet of late-phase laying hens could serve as a potential strategy to enhance egg production, egg quality, and gut health.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of water-soluble sulfated ${\beta}$-glucan (SBG) obtained from Ganoderma lucidum mycelia on the antihyperlipidemic and serum lipid levels in high-fat diet-induced obese rats. Five-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed a high-fat diet for two weeks to induce obesity. They were ten divided into five groups-normal control diet group (NC), high-fat control diet group (HC), high-fat diet and 200 mg/kg of SBG group (HC-HSBG), high-fat diet and 20 mg/kg of SBG group (HC-LSBG), and high-fat diet and 20 mg/kg of lovastatin group (HC-Lov)-and fed one of five diets for two more weeks. Although food intake and final body weight after four weeks of SBG consumption were similar in the five experimental groups, food efficiency ratio was higher in the high-fat diet groups(2, 3, 4, and 5) than in the NC group. In evaluating the hematological parameters of the rats, the neutrophil and monocyte ratios were higher in the HC-HSBG, HC-LSBG, and HC-Lov groups than in the HC group. Serum lipid profiles were analyzed after a 12 hr fast at the end of the study. Total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were significantly lower in the HC-HSBG and HC-LSBG groups than in the HC group. These results suggest that chemically engineered sulfated mushroom ${\beta}$-glucan (SBG) might contribute to lower cholesterol and lipid levels in blood.
This experiment was conducted to determine optimum dietary levels of dietary energy and protein for laying performance and egg quality in organic laying hens. In a $2{\times}3$ factorial arrangement, 360 Hy-Line pullets (21 wk of age) were randomly assigned to experimental diets with 2,800, 3,080, and 3,360 kcal of ME/kg of diet, each containing 16 and 18% CP, respectively. Each dietary treatment was replicated 4 times, and feed and water were provided ad libitum. Experimental birds were raised in floor and received 14h of light throughout 52 weeks of experimental period. The birds were observed for feed consumption, egg production, egg weight, egg mass, feed conversion ratio, Haugh unit, shell thickness, and shell color at 30, 50, and 70 wk of age. Egg production, egg weight, and egg mass were higher (P<0.05) in hens receiving diets with 2,800 kcal/kg of ME/kg of feed than those fed diets containing 3,080 and 3,360 kcal of ME/kg of diets. Eggshell breaking strengths were not significantly different among the dietary ME and CP concentrations. Eggshell thickness was higher (P<0.05) in hens receiving diets with 3,360 kcal of ME/kg of feed than those fed diets containing 2,800 and 3,080 kcal of ME/kg of diets at 50 and 70 week. With increasing in dietary energy levels, the concentrations of blood total cholesterol were also significantly increased. Overall, the laying hens fed organic diet of 2,800 kcal ME/kg and 16% CP showed superior egg production than those of other dietary regimens.
Purpose : The aim of this study is to determine and compare the effects of adjunctive therapy with different doses of recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(rhG-CSF) on reversing sepsis-associated neonatal neutropenia, and their survival rate in a group I/II-type trial. Methods : RhG-CSF was injected subcutaneously to 10 septic-neutropenic neonates with doses of $10{\mu}g/kg$ from Oct. 1995 to Sep. 1996, and was administered to another 12 septic-neutropenic neonates with doses of $5{\mu}g/kg$ from Oct. 1996 to Sep. 1997. Neutrophilic responses and the outcomes of both groups were compared. Results : In the rhG-CSF $10{\mu}g/kg$ treated group and in the $5{\mu}g/kg$ treated group, the absolute neutrophil count(ANC) was $1,065{\pm}89$($mean{\pm}SEM$) and $1,053{\pm}131$, respectively. The only difference between the two groups was the peak ANC at 48 hours. Eight patients from the remaining nine of rhG-CSF $10{\mu}g/kg$ treated group(88.9%) and ten in $5{\mu}g/kg$ treated group(83.3%) survived the sepsis and were discharged without any problems. Conclusions : RhG-CSF can increase the neutrophil count in critically ill septic neutropenic neonats. The survival rate of both groups were up to 90%. This finding suggests that both doses of rhG-CSF may be effective in a therapeutically useful time frame to treat septic neonates with neonatal neutropenia attributable to bone marrow supression or neutrophil consumption.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding herb extract (HE) on productivity, intestinal microflora and blood component profile in broiler chickens. A total of three hundred twenty, 1-d-old male chicks (Ross) were divided into 4 treatments with 5 replicates, 16 birds per replicate. Dietary treatments consisted of four diets; the corn-soybean based control diet, the diet containing HE 0.1%, the diet containing HE 0.2%, and the diet containing HE 0.4%. The Control diet contained 3,100, 3,100, 3,200 kcal/kg ME and 22%, 20%, 18% CP for starter ($0{\sim}2 wk$), grower ($3{\sim}5 wk$), and finisher ($6{\sim}7 wk$) periods, respectively. There were no significant differences in feed intake and BW gain among treatments in starter period. In grower period, the BW gain of HE 0.2%, and HE 0.4% were significantly higher (p<0.05) compared to Control. The 7-wk BW gain of HE 0.2% was significantly higher than Control (p<0.05). The feed intake tended to increase in HE 0.1%, but no difference was detected in feed conversion ratio among treatments. No significant differences were found in blood total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, glucose, total protein, and albumin among treatments, but total cholesterol in HE 0.4% decreased significantly as compared with Control. The cfu of Lactobacillus spp., yeast, and E. coli in the guts of chickens fed HE were not different form each other, but tended to increase as compared with Control.
The micronutrients and flavor compounds of three new native chicken strains (A, C, and D) being developed in a breeding program (Golden Seed Project) were compared with a commercial native chicken strain (H) and the Baeksemi (W, white semi broiler). After 100 male chicks in each strains were reared for 5 weeks, the breast muscles from randomly selected 40 birds were analyzed at 8 replications. Native chicken strain A had greater amounts of α-tocopherol and α-tocotrienol compared with strain W. Native chicken strains showed higher contents of vitamin B12 than Stain W. Stain H strain had the highest values of cholesterol content and strain D did the lowest. There was no different content of most minerals between native chickens (A, C, D, and H) and W, but Cu were more contained in native chicken strains compared with W. In terms of nucleotide-related flavor compounds, Stain A had the lowest content of hypoxanthine and strain D had highest inosine monophosphate. Native chicken strains had higher contents of umami-related free amino acids (glutamate and aspartate) than W. Among native chickens, strain A had more amounts in the contents of taurine, tasty flavor compounds, and certain vitamins, despite of the relatively low growth productivity. This result will provide information to select a strain with characteristic meat quality in a chicken breeding program.
This paper searched the affect of Water dropwort and Tumeric on radiation exposure. By experimenting 50 male mouse, ICR type 5 weeks old male 25~30g, 5 mouse was divided in to each group respectively. A : 3 Gy control group, B : 5 Gy control group, C : 3 Gy, FW, D : 5 Gy FW, E : 3 Gy LW, F : 5 Gy LW, G : 3 Gy FT, H : 5 Gy FT, I : 3 Gy LT, J : 5 Gy LT FW : Ate Water dropwort before the radiation exposure. FT : Ate Tumeric before the radiation exposure. LW : Ate Water dropwort after the radiation exposure. LT : Ate Tumeric after the radiation exposure. During the 7 day radiation, Control group (A, B) received physiological saline (500mg/kg/day) in oral administration, LW and LT group (E, F, I, J) respectively received Water dropwort or tumeric (500mg/kg/day) in oral administration after the radiation, FW and FT group (C, D, G, H) respectively received Water dropwort or tumeric (500mg/kg/day) in oral administration before the radiation. As a result, an average leukocyte rate on 5 mouse was 200K/${\mu}L$ on group A. 6.46K/${\mu}L$ on group C which was in normal rate range (1.8-10.7 K/${\mu}L$). An average leukocyte rate was 23.33K/${\mu}L$ on group G. which was not normal rate, but compare to 200K/${\mu}L$, it was closer to normal rate. An average lymphocyte rate was 118.87K/${\mu}L$ on Group A. 1.51K/${\mu}L$ on Group G. which was in normal lymphocyte rate range (0.9-9.3K/${\mu}L$). An average thrombocyte rate was 4000K/${\mu}L$ on Group A. 1107 K/${\mu}L$ on Group C. 2759.6 K/${\mu}L$ on Group G. which was in normal thrombocyte rate range (592-2972 K/${\mu}L$). From this result, it was found that when exposed to radiation, Water dropwort and Tumeric have defensive effect in a preventive level. Also from an animal experiment, it was found that blood corpuscle rate returns to a normal rate. Based on this experiment, diverse research on this field should be conducted.
