  • In order to realize miniaturized and low-impedance MMIC passive component, a novel microstripline structure employing periodically perforated ground metal was proposed. The novel microstripline structure showed much lower impedance, and shorter guided-wavelength than conventional one. Using the novel microstripline with periodically perforated ground metal, a miniaturized 15 $\Omega$ ratrace was fabricated. The line width of the ratrace was 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$, and the size of it was 0.375 mm$^2$, which is 9.3 % of conventional one. The ratrace exhibited good RF performances from 20 to 30 GHz.

  • In this study, a short-wavelength coplanar-type transmission line employing periodic ground structure (PGS) was developed for application to miniaturized on-chip passive component on Si Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit (RFIC). The transmission line employing PGS showed shorter wavelength and lower characteristic impedance than conventional coplanar-type transmission line. The wavelength of the transmission line employing PGS structure was 57 % of the conventional coplanar-type transmission line on Si substrate. Using the theoretical analysis. basic characteristics of the transmission line employing PGS (e.g., bandwidth. loss, impedance, and resonance characteristics) were also investigated in order to evaluate its suitability for application to a development of miniaturized passive on-chip components on silicon RFIC. According to the results. the bandwidth of the transmission line employing PGS was more than 895 GHz as long as T is less than 20${\mu}m$, and the resonance characteristic was observed in 1239 GHz, which indicates that the PPGM structure is a promising candidate for application to a development of miniaturized on-chip passive components on Si RFIC.

  • In this paper, when a H-polarized plane wave is incident on the grating consisting of uniform resistive strips, electromagnetic scattering is analyzed using the moment of methods (MoM). The current density of each resistive strip on a grounded dielectric plane is fixed by zero at both edges. To satisfy the condition at both ends of each resistive strip, the induced surface current density is expanded in a series of cosine and sine functions. The scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of floquet mode functions. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown current coefficients. According to the variation of the involving parameters such as strip width and spacing and angle of the incident field, numerical simulations are performed by applying the Fourier-Galerkin moment method. The numerical results of the normalized reflected power for resistive strips case for zero and several resistivities are obtained.

  • In this paper, when a E-polarized plane wave is incident on the grating consisting of tapered resistive strips, electromagnetic scattering is analyzed using the method of moments(MoM). The induced current density of each resistive strip in a grounded double dielectric layer is expected to blow up at both edges. To satisfy this, the induced surface current density is expanded in a series of Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. The numerical results of the normalized reflected power for resistive strips case for several resistivities are obtained.

  • In this paper, the transfer characteristics of high frequency transmission line having defected ground structure (DGS) and lumped elements are described. When a DGS, which is a kind of periodic structure, is inserted into a transmission line, its equivalent inductance and capacitance elements are added to the characteristics of the standard transmission line. This generates resonance, 3dB cut-off frequency, low-pass, band rejection, and band pass characteristics, and causes a slow-wave and enlarged electrical length of the transmission line. In addition, if the DGS is combined by a lumped element such as resistor, capacitor, and inductor, the resonant and cut-off frequencies moves up or down and other changes occur in the transmission characteristics. The variation of the transmission characteristics is described with the qualitative prediction and measured data.

The branch-line couple exhibited good RF performance from 41.75 to 50 GHz, and its size was $0.46{\times}0.55mm^2$, which is 37 % of conventional one. The impedance transformer exhibited good RF performance from 1 to 40GHz, and its size was $0.01mm^2$, which is 6.99 % of conventional one.

  • In this paper, H-polarized electromagnetic scattering problems by a conductive strip grating between a grounded double dielectric layer are analyzed by applying the FGMM(Fourier-Galerkin Moment Method) known as a numerical method of electromagnetic fileld. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients, and the conductive boundary condition is applied to analysis of the conductive strip. The numerical results for normalized reflected power are analyzed by according as the width and spacing of conductive strip, the relative permittivity and thickness of the grounded double dielectric layers, and incident angles. Generally, as the value of the dielectric constant and dielectric thickness of a grounded double dielectric layer increases, the reflected power increased. And as dielectric thickness of a grounded double dielectric layer increases, the current density induced in the strip center increases. The numerical results for the presented structure of this paper are shown in good agreement compared to those of the existing papers using the PMM(Point Matching Method).

  • In this paper, basic characteristics of transmission line employing PPGM (periodically perforated ground metal) were investigated using theoretical and experimental analysis.According to the results, unlike the conventional PBG (photonic band gap) structures, the characteristic impedance of the transmission line employing PPGM structure showed a real value, which exhibited a very small dependency on frequency. The transmission line employing PPGM structure showed a loss (per quarter wave length) higher by $0.1{\sim}0.2\;dB$ than the conventional microstrip line. According to the investigation of the dependency of RF characteristic on ground condition, the RF characteristic of the transmission line employing PPGM structure was hardly affected by the ground condition in the frequency lower than Ku band, but fairly affected in the frequency higher than Ku band, which indicated that coplanar waveguide employing PPGM structure was optimal for RF characteristic and reduction of size. Considering above results, impedance transformer was developed using coplanar waveguide with PPGM structure for the first time, and good RF characteristics were observed from the impedance transformer. In case that {\lambda}/4$ impedance transformer with a center frequency of 9 GHz was fabricated for a impedance transformation from 20 to10 {\Omega}$, the line width and length were 20 and $500\;{\mu}m$, respectively, and its size was only 0.64 % of the impedance transformer fabricated with conventional microstrip lines. Above results indicate that the transmission line employing PPGM is a promising candidate for a development of matching and passive elements on MMIC.

  • An analysis method for the electromagnetic scattering of a gaussian beam wave by finite periodic conducting strip grating on a groudned dielectric slab is considered. The intergral equation for the unknown current induced on the conducting strip surface is derived and solbed numerically by use of the method of moment. From knowledge of the strip current, the quantities of interest such as radiation pattern, the space wave power radiated into the free space, and the coupled surface wave power propagating along the dielectric slab are computed for the appropriately chosen parametes Some similarity between scattering behaviours of the present geometry and the infinite geometry is examined by observing the Off-bragg as well as bragg blaxing penomena in both geometries. The validity of the numerical results are assured by a check of the power conservation relations.

  • In this work, we studied basic characteristics of transmission lines employing various PSS (periodic strip structure) on silicon substrate for application to a miniaturization of RF components. According to the results, the transmission lines employing various PSS showed wavelength shorter than conventional coplanar waveguide due to their strong wave characteristics. Especially, with-contact structure was most effective for a miniaturization of RF component. Concretely, the size of the transmission line employing with-contact was only 4.39 % of the conventional coplanar waveguide, According to the bandwidth extraction result, the bandwidth of the transmission lines employing various PSS structures were wider than 384 GHz. Above results indicate that the transmission lines employing various PSS can be effectively used for application to a broadband and miniature RF component, and especially, with-contact is most effective for a miniaturization of RF components.
