  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of depression in relation to the subjective health status and quality of life of middle-aged and elderly in rural areas. Subjective health status, depression and quality of life of 235 residents over 40 years of age in A county were collected and analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation, and Multiple Regression, and verified with Sobel test. Depression had a mediating effect in relation to the subjective health status and quality of life of the residents. In conclusion, subjective health conditions and depression are important factors that determine the quality of life of middle-aged and elderly residents in rural areas. Various programs for improving subjective health of the residents and relieving their depression are needed to improve the quality of life of middle-aged and elderly in rural areas.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine that basic pension entitlement affects the subjective well-being(SWB) of the elderly. For controlling unobserved heterogeneity, we used fixed effects model for longitudinal data. The data used for this study is KLoSA from 2006 to 2016. The research results are as follows. SWB of non-basic pensioners was higher than for basic pension beneficiaries. Second, when the demographic variables were controlled, SWB of the basic pension recipients was higher then that of non-beneficiaries. Third, the factors affecting SWB were economic satisfaction, marital status, family financial support, employment status, subjective health status, daily life restrictions, gender, and age. Fourth, the effect of basic pension on SWB was positive at the lowest income quartile. The results of this study shows that the basic pension system has a positive effect on the SWB of elderly despite the low benefit level. Therefore, it is necessary to expand the basic pension system to solve poverty problems and improve the quality of life for the aged. Also, various aspects of social support for the low-income vulnerable elderly are needed. Lastly, It was suggested that the benefit level of the basic pension should be raised to have a substantial effect on the low-income class, which is a key policy subject.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a research model and to verify the effects death anxiety has on subjective health status, economic status, depression and social support for the elders and their quality of life. The survey targeting 330 elders from the 17 senior citizen centers in Dong-do-chun and Nam-yang-ju city was carried out from 2008.8.1 to 2008.9.31. To summarise the research result, 6 hypotheses among 9 hypotheses concerning the direct effects were supported. In another words, health status, depression and social support are valid and the direct effect of depression, social support and death anxiety are valid as subjective quality of life as an endogenous variable. In the case of indirect effects, 2 indirect effects among all 4 indirect effect hypotheses are valid. In another words, the effect the subjective health status has on the subjective quality of life is valid as the mediating effects of death anxiety and the effect depression has on the subjective quality of life is also valid as the mediating effects of death anxiety. Based on the results of this study, a proposal to reduce death anxiety among the elderly is suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of subjective systemic health status and health behavior on the oral health-related quality of life through a convergence study. The data collected by a survey on adults living in Busan Metropolitan City were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. The oral health-related quality of life of the non-smoking group was higher than that of the smoking group, and the oral health-related quality of life was higher in the high group for the subjective systemic health status and health behavior than in the low group. Subjective systemic health status and health behavior both were found to have a positive (+) influence on oral health-related quality of life, and especially the subjective systemic health status had a greater influence. Therefore, as the improvement of oral health-related quality of life is expected through systemic health, it is considered that development of convergence education programs could be an important medium to educate the associated importance of systemic health and oral health.

  • This study attempted to understand the effect of subjective class consciousness on the quality of life of female elderly people and to verify the multi-mediated effect of expectation of living standards and depression. To this end, an analysis was conducted using the SPSS Process Macro for 8,070 female elderly people aged 55 or older in the data of the "2018 Aging Research Panel Survey 7" of the Korea Employment Information Service. As a result of the analysis, first, it was found that the higher the subjective class consciousness of the elderly women, the higher the quality of life. Second, the higher the subjective class consciousness of the elderly women, the higher the expectation of living standards and the lower the depression. Third, in the relationship between the subjective class consciousness and quality of life of female elderly, when expectations and depression of living standards were simultaneously put into the regression equation, both variables were found to have significant mediating effects. Based on these research results, practical and policy implications for improving the quality of life of the elderly women were discussed together.

  • The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model of subjective quality of life in middle-aged men. The participants were 493 middle-aged men. Data were collected from September 10 to October 31, 2011. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0. Self-esteem, social support, family communication showed direct and indirect effect on subjective quality of life for middle-aged married men, and job satisfaction showed a direct effect on subjective quality of life. The structural regression model of middle-aged men's subjective quality of life was a good fit with the model. These results indicate that it is necessary to design intervention programs to increase self-esteem, social support, family communication and job satisfaction in order to increase middle-aged men's subjective quality of life.

  • This study was conducted to identify an influence of subjective oral health status and oral health literacy on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in elderly. Participants in this cross-sectional survey were 248 aged over 65 older people in Jecheon city. Data were collected from July. 3 to 21, 2016 using the self-report questionnaire. Subjective oral health status, oral health literacy and oral health-related quality of life were measured. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that subjective oral health status, oral health literacy, cohabitant, the number of teeth, education level and religion significantly predicted OHRQoL in the elderly people, explaining 44.3% of the variance. Therefore, health care providers should consider that interventions preventing tooth loss and improving oral health status and oral health literacy are required to enhance the OHRQoL in the elderly people.
