The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the factors influencing happiness between the baby boom generation and the elderly generation, and to clarify the difference in the factors affecting happiness in old age. Thus, using the data of the '2019 Seoul Survey Urban Policy Indicators Survey', a total of 15,451 people including 7,831 baby boomers (born 1955-1963) and 7,620 seniors (born before 1954) were sampled. Through regression analysis, we analyzed what factors affect happiness. As a result of the analysis, family relations were the most influential factor of happiness in both groups, but next, satisfaction through participation in leisure activities for baby boomers and economic support for elderly generations had a great influence on happiness. In addition, the degree of participation in SNS, which has no effect on the baby boom generation, is a significant factor influencing happiness for the elderly, showing that participation in the digital environment is important to the elderly. In the results of this study, it was suggested that the baby boom generation and the elderly generation are significantly different in terms of group characteristics, and therefore their social needs for the pursuit of happiness in their old age should be approached differently.
The purpose of this study is to empirically structure the patterns of baby boomer retirees'consumption and their effects on depression in later life. Using the 5th wave of Korea Retirement and Income Study(KReIS) in 2013, of baby boomers born in 1955 to 1963, we analyzed those who were completely retired(n=420). The Latent Profile Analysis(LPA) classified the empirical patterns of consumption and then a multiple regression analyzed the effect of consumption patterns on depression among these baby boomer retirees. The LPA results showed that the consumption patterns consist of five groups: (1) Basic life-oriented class(26.9%), (2) Balanced consumption class(29.3%), (3) Social life-oriented class(18.3%), (4) Leisure-oriented class(18.5%), and (5) Education-oriented class(7.0%). Baby boomer retirees' depression was associated with their consumption patterns. Specifically, the basic life-oriented class showed significantly lower depression than the education-oriented class. Other correlates such as higher education, having no spouse, lower subjective health, greater limitations in physical functions, having a diagnosed disability, having fewer children, higher dissatisfaction with leisure activities, and lower self-perceived economic status were associated with higher levels of depression in this study. These findings suggest meaningful implications for gerontological policy and practice for baby boomer retirees in Korea. In light of vulnerable retirement preparation, social services specialized for baby boomers should consider financial education for revamping consumption scale beyond asset management and long-term case management of pre and post retirement cases.
The purpose of this study was to explore change trajectories patterns of Self-Rated Health in middle aged, to identify socioeconomic factors, self-esteem, family relationship factors, and to identify relevant predictors. For this purpose, the 2,418 middle aged, who married couples were extracted from the 2nd to 12st waves of Korea Welfare Panel Survey data. The data analysis included Latent Class Growth Analysis, multiple logistic regression. The change trajectories patterns of self-rated health in middle aged were classified into four types: (1) high state-retained type(46.3%), (2) low state-retained type(19.6%), (3) reduced type(17.5%), (4) increasing type(16.6%). Despite the control of chronic diseases that are closely related to health, when the low state-retained type, which is a crisis group, was set as the reference group for the self-rated health, the economic participation, self-esteem and satisfaction of the family relationship had a more inadequate effect than the high state-retained type. Likewise, when the reduced type, which is a crisis group, was set as the reference group for the self-rated health, the economic participation, self-esteem, satisfaction of the family relationship, and family stress had a more effect than the increasing type. Based on the analysis results, this study suggest political and practical intervention to maintain the proper health, and the details are as follows.
This study aims to develope participation scale of people with disabilities according to the International classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health(ICF). ICF includes a component for classifying and qualifying participation of individuals in the context of their environments. The participation scale were developed using 7 times with different focus groups using the ICIDH-2 as a contextual framework. Candidate 41 items were developed based on the 8 participation components and put into a survey format. Finally, purposeful sample of 363 people with mobility limitations was conducted survey. As a result of survey, participation scale is composed of 38 items that are placed in 7 domains used in the activity/participation component of the ICF: holisitc health; communication; mobility; domestic life; interpersonal interactions and relationships; social and economic life; civic life. This scale does not include the domains of learning and applying knowledge, general tasks and demands, recreation and leisure but more focuses on social and civic life.

This study was conducted to analyze the Ego Integrity, Subjective Pain, Subjective Health, Subjective Happiness and Social Support level of Community Dwelling elderly, and to analyze the variables that impact their Ego Integrity. Methods: A total of 250 elderly aged 60 years or above visiting a Senior Welfare Center in j city and j group of Jeonbuk were selected as subjects of this study for collection and analysis of data. Data were collected from January 8 to February 26, 2008 from 250 community-dwelling elders in Korea and subjected to descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: only economic strength was influenced by general characteristics. Additionally, Subjective Pain, Subjective Health, and Subjective Happiness and Social Support l were found to have a statistically positive correlation with Ego Integrity. Finally, the most influential variables on the elderly Ego Integrity were Social Support (${\beta}=.194$, p=.002), followed by Subjective Health (${\beta}=.149$, p=.040) and four variables explaining 10.8% of the elderly Ego Integrity. Conclusion: it is necessary to develop specific intervention programs to improve Social Support and Subjective Health among Community Dwelling elderly to make it possible to enable Ego Integrity.
The purpose of this study was to examine and compare factors affecting the subjective life expectancy among the elderly, and to suggest health practice and social welfare service implications for later life. A total of 4,483 seniors from the 6th wave(2016) of the Korean Longitudinal Study on Aging (KLoSA) were used for analysis. The subjects were divided into three age groups: the young-old (n=2,106, 65~74 years), middle-old (n=1,803, 75~84 years), and oldest-old (n=574, 85 years and older). Control variables were sociodemographic factors and health status factors. Independent variables were health promotion behavior, cognition of public care, participating social activity, economic activity, and receiving basic pension. The data were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression. The main results were as follows. Health promotion behavior was associated with the young-old. Social activities and economic activity were associated with the young-old and middle-old. Receiving basic pension had a significant impact on all age groups. In the middle-old, significant results were focused on socio-demographic and health status factors compared to other groups. The results of this study will provide basic data for the elderly policy and welfare service and will help to find and improve the important factors for the life of the elderly.

Population aging has been an increasing social issue and the elderly health has become one of the most urgent public attentions in Korea. The aims of this paper are to compare the subjective health status according to the personal characteristics, social networks, and daily leisure activities of the urban-rural elderly, and to analyze the influencing factors of their subjective health status. Using 2011 elderly survey data, ordered logit Model was established to extract influencing factors of the elderly health status. The results show that socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of individual as well as frequent social contacts and daily activities within neighborhood environments influence the level of health status of the elderly. The most significant factors affecting the elderly health are personal economic conditions such as the education achievement level and household income. The elderly who visit an elderly welfare center in Seoul has almost 1.82 times higher odds of increasing health status level than not to visit an elderly welfare center. This study may give some important policy implications of the elderly health promotion strategy in urban-rural communities.
The object of this study was to survey the relationship between emotional self-support and the level of subjective health recognition of participators in the self support program. The health condition which is recognized subjectively by participators could affect the participation motive and the attitude to the program, and could be connected to the achievement of self-support. Therefore I tried to survey the implications and the relationship between emotional self-support and the level of subjective health recognition in terms of progress for the economic self-support. The objectives were self-support program participators in Wonju, and 127 questionaries were collected. The results of this study were as followings; First, there was the positive relationship between emotional self-support and the level of subjective health recognition. Second, the participation period in the self-support program affected emotional self-support and the level of subjective health recognition negatively, and the affects of the ages were meaningless. The suggestion of this study is that the level of emotional self-support and subjective health recognition could be developed if the emotional and psychological program is developed which makes the conditional pensioners perceive the living attitude and the thoughts to the works positively.
Lately, rapid increase of household debt and economic change has affected cash flow of household, insolvent risk has increased by high repayment burden of the principal and interest. Previous researches was progressing various discussion, composed objective repayment burden index about household debt. But it was relatively insufficient about perception of consumer. This research compare and analysis determinants of subjective repayment burden in household debt by income quintile, using 2016 Household Financial Welfare Survey. The research result is follows. The income 1 and 2 quartile groups have the higher monthly rent and credit card loan and the housing preparation loan ratio, the higher burden on repayment of the principal and interest. The Income 3 and 4 quartile groups have the higher 60s or older and member of household and real estate mortgage loan, the higher burden on repayment of the principal and interest. The Income 5 quartile group has the higher loan ratio for debt repayment preparation, the higher burden on repayment of the principal and interest.
The purpose of this study is to examine which factors determine self-rated health(SRH) among Korean elderly focusing on gender differences. To achieve this purpose, it uses the Hallym Longitudinal Study of Aging, wave 4 in 2009. Participants aged 65 and over from wave 4 were selected(N=986, male 407, female 579). From wave 4, all variables were selected except for respondents' education which was from wave1. In analyses, $x^2$ or t-test were conducted to examine whether independent variables significantly differ by SRH. Then, since a dependent variable consisted of two categories-being healthy or not being healthy, logistic regressions were run. What makes gender differences in the link of independent variables to SRH were 75-84 age group, education, and IADLs. For females, 75-84 age group rated their health as worse compared to 65-74 age group, but this age group did not have significant effect on SRH for males. Females graduating from junior high school were more likely to higher rate their health compared to their counterparts. However, education was not significant for males. Instrumental activities of daily living(IADLs) is one of variables affecting SRH by making gender differences. Female having problems with IADLs were more likely to be significantly negatively rate their health compared to males. Through focusing on age, education, IADLs making gender difference in evaluating health, governments needs to support males and females differently.
