$CaF_2$ single crystals growth for UV grade by vacuum-Bridgman method (Vacuum-Bridgman법에 의한 UV grade 형석$(CaF_2)$단결정 성장)

  • The vacuum-Bridgman equipment for large size diameter (4 inch more over) crystal growth was organized simply and the $CaF_2$ single crystal which was grown in the conditions of growth rate of 2mm/hr, freezing temperature gradient of $12^{\circ}C$/cm, have analyzed to keep excellent properties. Using Mo thermal reflector of umbrella shape, it could be eliminated the formation of polycrystalline. The preferential growth direction was (111) and the calculated lattice parameter was $5.460 \AA$ by XRD peaks. The secondary phases, also, was not formed by means of powder-XRD analysis. The value of EPD is $1.4{\times}10^4 \textrm{cm}^{-2}$ and the optical quality, which is the transmittance is 91% up in UV region, is suitable for optical components of UV applications.

  • Damage of sea-crossing bridge by ship collision is related to estimate frequencies of overloading due to impact, and bridge accordingly must be designed to satisfy related acceptance criteria. Another important aspect is the management on increment of collision risk during the service period. In this study, related plan, main span length, air draft clearance and collision risk are analyzed for the interim assessment of Incheon Bridge focusing on the ship collision problem. In particular, for the increment of collision risk, the optimized navigation speed is proposed by reviewing the research findings and navigation guidelines etc. as a temporary expedient. Also basic procedure for reasonable prediction of target vessel and passage is established and probabilistic prediction method to embrace the uncertainty of the prediction is proposed as a fundamental solution. It is necessary to conduct further research on collision risk management and promptly carry out interim assessments of other marine bridges.

Variation of Sink Components in Response to Removal Time of Upper Leaf on Main Stem in Soybean (주경 상부엽 제거시기가 콩의 절위별 Sink형질 변이에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of leaf removal time on variation of nodal sink components in determinated soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cultivar 'Danyeobkong' were measured at the experiment field of Chonbuk Provincial Rural Development Administration in 1991. Node order in this experiment was calculated from terminal node to bottom node to clarify the photosynthetic ability of canopy leaves. The upper 5 leaves from terminal node of main stem were removed at 5, 15, 25, 35 and 45 days after flowering(DAF) respectively. In spite of light-receiving increment in lower part of main stem and in branch by removing the upper part leaves of main stem, seed weight of that part was not increased in leaf removal treatment compared with control block. The node position reducing pod went down from terminal to bottom by delaying leaf removal time, and the influence of pod number reduction was bigger in DAF 25 than in DAF 15. But the seed number reduction per pod was the biggest in DAF 35. Cracked seed coat ratio ranged from 25% to 35% in control block, while that of leaf removal block had mostly 10% gap compared with the control block.rol block.

  • We suggested the new method of thermal screen in Bridgman-Stockbarger method to control the polygrain, the internal cavities and solid-liquid (SL) interface. $CaF_2$ single crystal of 6 inch was grown perfectly when we adopted to use a graphite pipe and a ceramic warmer in the conditions of growth rate 2 mm/hr, vertical temperature of $14^{\circ}C$ for freezing and temperature of $1324^{\circ}C$ at conical tip of crucible. The light scattering phenomena occurred by internal cavities were controlled as decreasing the freezing rate to 2 mm/hr and/or as adopting the rotation of melt (7 rpm).

  • Two cowpea varieties, VITA #5 &Jungweon local var., had been sown at intervals of 15 days from May 1 to Aug. 29, and the following results were obtained. The earlier the two varieties had been sown, the shorter period from planting to first blooming and maturing, the more peduncles, the more pods per peduncle and plant, the heavier 100-grain weight, and the more grain yield we had. VITA #5 was earlier in maturity and higher in yielding performance than Jungweon local var., and both could not bloom in late sowing after Aug. 14. During the period of flowering and seed-setting, bad weather condition decreased the number of grains per pod. Limit sowing date of VITA #5 was Jun. 30 and that of Jungweon local var. was Jun. 15 in the middle part of Korea. Growing degree days (GDD) was available in cowpea.

  • Seedling development among reciprocal FI hybrids and their parents, Lotus comiculatus and L renuis, were studies using a simple method of measuring cotyledon area. Cotyledon area attached to the plant could be measured with simple rapid method. Cotyledons expanded very rapidly during the first week, then slightly expanded until maximum size was reached around 3 weeks after emergence. Cotyledon area upon emergence was correlated with seed size (P=0.05), but after emergence there was a divergence in cotyledon expansion rate. Rapidity of photosynthetic area development was determinant factor for seedling growth of trefoil species. 2 $\times$ m2 and 1 $\times$ m2 among the hybrids promised the possibility increasing seedling vigor of birdsfoot trefoil.

Production of Specific Egg Yolk Antibodies in Chicken against Recombinant Fowl Adenovirus Fiber 2 Protein (재조합 가금 아데노바이러스 Fiber 2 단백질을 이용한 특이 난황 항체 생산)

  • Fowl adenovirus (FAV) is an important cause of several diseases, which result in considerable economic losses to the poultry farm. An outer capsid protein of FAV, fiber 2 is essential for virus growth, assembly or spread. This study was performed to produce about 22 kDa of recombinant fiber 2 protein and to immunize in laying hens to acquire the specific IgY antibody against the recombinant fiber 2. Laying hens were immunized with the recombinant fiber 2 intramuscularly in the breast muscle by injection 4 times at intervals of three weeks. At 12 weeks, serum- and egg yolk-antibody titers of hens against fiber 2 were increased up to 430,000 and 414,000, respectively. The recombinant fiber 2 could be recognized be the anti-His monoclonal antibody. Anti-fiber 2-IgY antibody could recognize the fiber 2 specifically in western blot analysis. These results suggested that the recombinant fiber 2 antigen could be used as an immunogen to elicit IgY antibody against fiber 2 and the anti-fiber 2-IgY could neutralize fowl adenovirus fiber 2 effectively.

  • 현재까지 시공된 사장교 중, 주경간이 가장 긴 교량은 중국의 수통대교(1088m)이다. 이에 버금가는 사장교로 홍콩의 스톤커터교(1018m) 역시 주경간장이 1000m가 넘는다. 바야흐로 사장교 역시 주경간 1000m의 시대가 열린 것이다. 우리나라 역시 세계적 흐름에 맞추어 주경간 800m의 인천대교(세계 5위)를 시공한바 있다. 이와 같이 교량의 초장대화는, 교량 건설 분야에서 기술경쟁력의 지표가 될 뿐만 아니라 세계 건설 시장의 큰 흐름이라고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 세계적 추세에 발맞추어, 국내 각계의 건설 전문가들이 모여 만든 초장대 교량 사업단의 기술 혁신 사업의 일환으로 이루어졌다. 교량이 장대화 되면서 바람의 의한 영향이 중요해진다는 것은 주지의 사실이다. 특히 사장교와 현수교 같은 특수 교량의 경우, 정적 및 동적 내풍 성능이 반드시 고려되어야만 한다. 본 연구에서는 주경간 1200m의 사장교를 가정하고, 이 사장교의 내풍 단면을 개발, 그 단면에 대한 정적 및 동적 내풍 성능을 평가하고자 하였다. 정적 내풍 성능으로는 단면의 형상에 따른 풍하중을 파악하고자 했으며, 동적 내풍 성능으로는 풍속에 따른 교량의 연직방향 변위 및 플러터 속도를 파악하고자 하였다. 이 실험은 추후에 3차원 전교모형실험의 기본 데이터로 활용하였다. 본 실험을 통해 개발된 단면의 등류 및 난류 상태에서의 영각별 정적 공기력계수를 계산해내었고, 설계풍속이 54.7m/s일때 한계풍속 65.64m/s(거마대교 기준)하에서의 중앙 경간의 풍속별 평균 변위를 측정하였으며, 이를 토대로 이 교량의 영각별 플러터 속도를 계산해 내었다.

  • 산업의 발달과 건설재료의 개발 및 설계 시공 기술의 급속한 발전으로 더 가볍고 더 긴 경간을 가진 교량이 건설되고 있다. 그러나 교량이 더 길어지고 가벼워질수록 풍하중에 의한 영향은 더욱 크게 받게 되어 여러 종류의 피해를 입게 된다. 이제는 어느 정도 잘 알려진 1940년에 발생한 Tacoma Narrow교의 붕괴사고는 내풍 설계의 필요성을 극단적으로 보여주는 대표적인 예로서 본격적인 내풍 공학 연구에 시발점이 되었다. 현재까지 아직 시공은 되지 않았으나 기본 설계 및 내풍안정성 평가가 완료되 주경간장 3,300m의 Messina교 및 2,800m의 일본해협횡단도로 프로젝트 초장대 현수교(안)의 출현까지 짧은 기간 동안 비약적인 기술 성장을 이루고 있다. 장대교량의 설계시 많은 풍동실험을 거쳐서 내풍안정성이 뛰어난 단면을 찾게 된다. Akashi교의 경우에도 트러스, 싱글박스, 트윈박스 등의 다양한 단면에 대한 풍동실험을 수행한 끝에 최종적으로 트러스 단면을 선택하였다. Great Belt교에서는 싱글박스 단면을 대상으로 다양한 단부 각도에 대한 결과를 바탕으로 최종 단면을 선정하였다. Stonecutter 교에는 트윈박스를 채용하여 기존 싱글박스를 뛰어넘는 도약을 단행하였다. 그리고 Messina교의 경우에는 약 20년에 걸쳐서 설계를 진행해 오면서 점진적으로 단면을 개선하여 최종적으로 트리플박스 단면을 채택하였다. 국내에서도 광양대교의 설계시 싱글박스에서 시작하여 트윈박스의 간격 최적화를 통하여 최종단면을 도출하였다. Akashi교는 최장경간장을 자랑하지만 고전적인 트러스 단면을 사용함으로써 Great Belt교, Stonecutter교, Messina교 등과 같이 혁신적인 단면을 채택한 교량에 비하여 상대적으로 기술적 가치를 인정받지 못하고 있다. 따라서 새로운 내풍 단면의 개발은 교량 설계를 위한 실용적인 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 경제적이고 내풍안정성이 우수한 도전적인 현수교 단면을 개발하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위하여 먼저 교량 계획 단계에 필요한 자료를 제공하기 위하여 기존 강박스 현수교의 제원을 수집하고 그 특성을 분석하여 각종 구조 변수들이 내풍안정성에 미치는 상대적인 영향을 평가하고, 근사적으로 고유진동수를 추정할 수 있는 추정식을 제시하였다. 그 다음으로 초장대 현수교 단면을 개발하기 위하여 다양한 풍동실험을 수행하고 가능한 단면 형상을 제시하였다.

6H-SiC single crystal growth by the sublimation method : (I) the formation mechanism of growth defects (승화법에 의한 6H-SiC 단결정 성장 : (I) 성장결함생성기구)

  • The 6H-SiC single crystals were grown using a self-designed crystal grower by the sublimation method. The grown crystals were typically 30 mm in diameter and 10 mm in length. Optimum growth conditions were established as follows : the temperature of the raw material was $2150~2250^{\circ}C$, the temperature of the substrate was $1950~2050^{\circ}C$, the temperature difference between the raw material and substrate was about $200^{\circ}C$, growth pressure was 50~200 torr and growth rate was 300~700 $\mu\textrm{m}$/hr. Optical microscopy was used for observing the surface of the 6H-SiC single crystal grown and the phenomenological approach was performed on the formation mechanism of the defects in the 6H-SiC crystal. Especially, the micropipes in the as-grown surface were examined to determine the formation mechanisms of the micropipes.
