Due to the belief that housing for university students is uniform materialistic and non-human, a variety of needs and preferences of the residents is becoming more important. In order to more positively identify the user's emotional needs, a design that meets the needs of the resident's living space is absolutely necessary. The purpose of this study is to group the sensibility types of university students, to analyze the preferred interior image and interior design elements, and then to understand the preferred characteristics according to sensibility type. To collect the data, a survey method was used for 224 university students in Seoul and the metropolitan area. The data analysis used SPSS PC 14.0 to find the frequency, t-test, chi-square, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, sensibility types were segmented into four groups including 'Unique & Elegant', 'Static & Tidy', 'Warm & Comfortable', and 'Characteristic & Free'. Second, the preferred interior image was the Minimal-Dandy-Natural Image, the preferred floor_material was wood, and the preferred wall_material was marble. Third, there were different interior preferences according to each type of gender & sensibility.

The purpose of this study is to develop the color palettes which are applicable to the color deign process for residential interiors according to the image types. To achieve this purpose, review of literature, questionnaire survey, and contents analysis were used. The major results of this study are as follows : The interior color images are clearly divided into 4 types, such as 'sophisticated', 'natural', 'gorgeousl', and 'casual'From the results of color palette, these 4 color image types are found to be very closely related to the interior image. It means that color image is very important element in Interior design process. Therefore, it is helpful to plan the color design according to the image types of interior color for good interior design.

The purpose of this study is to develop the user-oriented housing interior space sensibility evaluation tools: The user-oriented housing interior space sensibility evaluation tools shall be developed through the systematic selection process of the extracted housing interior space images, which were linked with the adjectives of sensibility evaluation selected for the housing interior space preferred by the user from the specific words of the sensibility extracted to identify the characteristics of the user's sensibility which is recently being changed. In the results of analyzing the words of sensibility for the residential space preferred by the users with 48 pairs of adjectives. The user-oriented sensibility assessment tool was built by extracting 8 sensibility factors of 'cozy', 'practical' 'cheerful', 'traditional', 'unique', 'congenial', 'sensuous', and 'gorgeous' in the exploratory factor analysis. The image scale was constructed in two-dimensions of the sense of space and the type of space for the residential interior space images. The dimension of the 'sense of space' is explained by the axis of open-closed and the dimension of 'type of space, is explained by the axis of 'natural-artificial'. Such a structural model of the residential interior design attributes were divided into 8 groups. And the 42 images representing each group were selected and the user-oriented residential interior space image tool was built by adding user's selective elements.

Art-Wall is the term for a surface wall representing artistic expression by using different materials or images in interior spaces. Usually this is the focal point in an interior space and sometimes it called as an image wall. In the new millenium Art-walls began to use in living spaces. While in the early stages of the development, Art-Wall was limited in a living room, in contemporary it spread into overall living spaces using various patterns and materials. Therefore, the research on Art-Walls in contemporary living spaces is essential to understand this development. The purpose of this study is to find out characteristics of patterns on Art-Walls as an imagery element in contemporary interior spaces. To analyze the characteristic, the analysis table for Art-Walls are constructed based on classifications of wallpapers and textiles. Based on this analysis table, 89 examples of Art-Walls from four major periodicals from 2008 to 2009 were examined. As a result of the analysis, in contemporary interior spaces solid-texture pattern is most frequently appeared. Then natural motifs are the next most popular using oversized or irregular layouts. The result shows that naturalistic expression is significant in interior space in 2008 to 2009. Therefore, Art-Walls that adapted diverse patterns are an essential element in contemporary interiors to represent the major concept of the space.

This study, planed as an idea to promote the degree of the qualitative satisfaction on the residential space and to correspond effectively with the several and characteristic needs, is a try to overcome the limitation which is not to construct with the several plane-plans but the common designs on an apartment, unlike to an individual residence, should be designed for the unidentified persons. For this purpose, 1 set 360 mother group to investigate how to change their degree of the interior-image preference through their Personality Types by the apartment interior image pattern, verified by the pre-study on the real-resident's degree of preference corresponding with MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), a Personality Types investigation. This result, leading us to be able to predict the resident's needs of the interior image aspects following the preference of the several products and to be able to supply the products, is being thought to contribute to promote the degree of satisfaction of the resident.

This study aims to find out various users' diverse interior design needs for their housing and interior design through the personality, which is intrinsic and consistent traits of the individual. The survey research followed the literature reviews including personality studies and interior design assessments. 176 undergraduate and graduate students as controlled by age, sex, and major answered the questionnaire. Their housing and interior design attitudes, the semiotic assessment of interior design styles, and interior design preference were compared in accordance with four pairs of preference dichotomy of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator): Extraversion -Introversion, Sensing-iNtuition, Thinking-Feeling, Judging-Perceiving. As a result, the framework of housing and interior design needs by the users' personality types are proposed. It shows specific needs for 16 types of personality based on eight preference dichotomy: extroversion-open, introversion-closed, sensing-functional, intuition-emotional, thinking-restricted, feeling-receptive, judging-simple, and perceiving-creative.

The purposes of this study were to identify styles of contemporary interior design, construct their images, and find out the relation of the identified styles to the structure images. Content analysis was used as the main method of this study, and the focus of the analysis was on a typological approach. Two hundred interior design photos were drawn from five different interior design magazines published in the past ten years, and ,they were analyzed by interior design professionals. Contemporary interior design was classified into ten styles: romantic, ethnic, classical, high tech, elegant, country, modern, minimal, natural, and causal. Given the ten styles, five images of interior design were identified - simple, comfortable, rustic, classical, and delightful. With regard to the relationships between 10 styles and 5 images of interior design, the this study found that the romantic style was related to the images of rustic and classical, the ethnic style to the images of comfortable, classical, and delightful, the classical style to the image of classical, the high tech style to the images of classical and rustic, the elegant style to the images of simple and classical, the country style to the images of comfortable and rustic, the modern style to the images of simple and delightful, the minimal style to the image of comfortable, the natural style to the images of comfortable and delightful, and the causal style to the images of comfortable and delightful.

The improvement of perspectives on dark and limited underground space could be an important factor in successful underground space development. The Current trend in the apartment underground parking garages requires not only quantitatively energy efficient design and operation but also qualitative improvement of the space. For this, we need to consider two factors: Firstly, to understand the characteristics of the lamps; Secondly, to improve the uniformity ratio of illuminance. In a winter season, a way to keep the uniformity and a method not to lower the indoor illuminance level by cold ambient air should be established. Therefore, a change in interval and arrangement of the lighting fixtures is required. Also, in their operations, the current time-fixed control method needs to be changed into the control which method considers the use pattern.

The purpose of this study is to focus on living rooms that are preferred as a place for changing space image to the maximum and to find a method how finishing materials are expressed by selecting space with mix & match of many images. The study methods are as follows. First, understand the expressive trend of space images through the precedent studies and magazines, and examine its relationship with finishing materials. Second, select space images based on the contents understood earlier and extract adjective words that represent each space image through an expert survey. Third, find the cases where space images are expressed based on the extracted words and analyze expression methods of finishing materials. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that recent space images are actively expressed through finishing materials. Second, space images selected through data related to the trend were classified as modern+natural, modern+traditional, modern+retro, classic+natural, classic+humor, and futurism+natural and 4 adjective words for each space image were extracted. Third, expressive elements of finishing materials were extracted as 'material'. 'texture', 'color', and 'pattern' through the precedent studies. Fourth, expressive methods of finishing materials for each space image could be suggested by analyzing the examples that show mix & match based on the contents extracted earlier. Lastly, it is expected to find various methods that lead space image into finishing materials by evaluating responses and changes in visual perception of residents according to expression of finishing materials based on this study.

This study aimed at analyzing physical characteristics of art-walls which is a focal point in contemporary interiors of the apartment houses. The factors for the analysis were types of apartments, positions, widths, compositions of elevation, and materials of art-walls. 89 art-walls were selected for the analysis ranging from $76m^2$ to $187m^2$. The result shows that wood was mostly applied to art-walls in small types of apartment in combination with other materials, and the composition of elevation was asymmetric. If the width of art-walls became smaller, the elevation was dominantly designed with symmetrical grid using tiles. Tiles turned out to be the general material for the single-applied material. However, if more than two materials were applied to art-walls, wood was chosen as the main material. Regardless of the types of apartment, big-sized art-walls were usually designed in the living room, and two different types of materials were applied to the walls. It reveals that art-walls of apartment houses have been planned and designed with focuses on the living room in the housing space. To make a modular panel for the art-walls, 400mm and 800mm sizes were both suggested, 400mm for the smaller composition, and 800mm for the larger composition of the art-walls. A Wall image is becoming more essential to the living space these days, because it can be both decorative and also supportive to residents' various individualities. Therefore, it is expected that further researches on art-walls are continuously performed, and also various designs of art-walls based on the modular system are developed in the near future.
