The rapid urbanization after 1970s caused the shortage of dwellings in urban areas. As the result, the underground dwellings were developed to compensate for the insufficient dwelling spaces. While the underground dwellings have some advantage in the respect of thermal and acoustic environment, they usually have the basic problems in the indoor air quality because of the lack of natural ventilation through small window areas. The purpose of this study is to investigate and to improve the indoor air quality of underground dwellings. Thirty Units in Seoul and Gyung-Gi Province were investigated into the indoor environmental conditions. For the purpose of the improvement of their indoor air quality, Automatically-operated ventilating fan was installed in a sample unit which has worst indoor environmental condition. Then the indoor air quality was monitored when it was operated by $CO_2$ control system and timer. Finally economic feasibility study was made considering the effect of the improvement of indoor air quality. The extra cost for installing timer could be paid back only in 10 months, so timer-installed automatic fan is recommended to improve the indoor air quality of underground dwellings.

Recently the population to enjoy leisure time has increased, due to the advancement of income level and increase of spare time. In the meantime, the growing attention to well-being life has shed light on Han-ok or traditional Korean house. Such a social background as former, the growing number of people prefer staying at Han-ok style accommodation when they are enjoying leisure time. However there has been little substantial study or survey on architectural standards of Han-ok style accommodation because it is a new type of accommodation facility. Therefore this study aims to suggest a set of basic standards on architectural planning for Han-ok style accommodations. For this purpose, it investigated architectural planning on Han-ok style accommodations in Jeollanamdo province through on-site survey and interview to classify them based upon size and scale of the facility, layout of buildings and interior spaces in terms of function, elevation and materials and to find basic standards on architectural planning of Han-ok style accommodations.
In the nowadays years our city's housing environment which progresses rapidly social-economical development is posited the role in the nowadays multi-family housing brings about the individualism of the nowadays city, and makes muddy neighborhood meaning, and the quality of the nowadays city dwelling house environment becoming worse. This study was started with the cognition of the need of intermediate-space, in the our life in the neighborhood city. Intermediate-spaces, has same meaning to come into the action of consciousness of the neighborhood. For the improvement of the quality of city housing, we should cleary recognized the individual territory after we set the proper in intermediate-zone in the multi-family housing. Therefore, this study inquires ito the meaning of intermediate-zone, and catches the formation technique of intermediate-zone and the method of plan through the investigation of the use cases of the multi-family housing which is established intermediate-territory. and then I analyze the role of the formative space by this method. By this method, I grope for the effect of the use through the alternative plan of the design method of the intermediate-zone. If the methods of play use the role in the nowadays multi-family housing, high quality will build up.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to provide baseline data on the housing environment of a vulnerable population. Methods: This study provides a descriptive survey on the housing environment of a vulnerable population of a city in Gyeong-gi province. A total of 9,061 households were selected as research participants. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews by visiting nurses from February 2014 to March 2014. Results: Interviewees answered "poor" on items including cold drafts, illumination, daylight penetration, inflow of polluted air, house odor, stairs safety, noise, mold, pests, and ventilation. The score for housing environment problems showed a significant group difference due to gender, age, economic status, family type, type of housing, and type of ownership. Conclusion: These results indicate that the vulnerable population is exposed to a poor housing environment. This study does try to proceed on the assumption that complex buildings can vitalize urban life of contemporary society from contemporary complexity and cases of past failure. The scope of investigation on complex buildings in Sangju built in 1990s' and 2000s' on this thesis is that site size is 400 square meter, total area 1500 square meter, and the number of stories on the ground below 5 floor. Method of investigation on twenty one buildings which have been built on new C.B.D. between the Namwon avenue and the Joongang 1th street in Sangju is through field investigation, field photographs, recordings and drawings on these buildings. Investigative contents have been divided and analysized into physical and functional elements in urban and architectural dimension. On the basis of these results, the future planning approach of complex buildings in medium and small cities has been considered into planning principles of convenience of building use and efficiency of site size, physical plans reflected on the traffic and pedestrian movings and the face of buildings, pedestrian resting space-creation like plazas and central gardens, regional character reflected with urban context, and separation and union of approached movings interrelated among the components.
The nursing space and sanitary space are main living spaces for children in the child care center. The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics in terms of planning by mainly focusing on the nursing space and sanitary space of the disabled child care center in Japan. Since Japan has cultural backgrounds similar to those of Korea while providing systematic child care centers according to the symptom and grade of disability, it is anticipated that this case study on the disabled child care center in Japan will help establish standards related to disabled child care centers in Korea. To conduct the study in a more efficient way, the case study was divided into the space planning of nursing spaces and sanitary spaces and the installation of sanitary tools and handrails in the disabled child care center. The findings of investigating into actual conditions were analyzed by comparing them with Japanese laws and literary and documentary records relevant to this study. Through this study, it is expected that Korean child care centers, having constantly expanded their quantitative growth, will also improve the qualitative level of their atmospheres so that they may provide more proper conditions even for disabled children to get better used to child care centers in Korea.
Eater Seal, the child care experts, observes that children with disability significantly benefit from receiving appropriated care along side their peers. Typically developing children serve as role models from which children with disabilities team age-appropriated communications and social behavior. Therefore the children with disability can actively participate in well-designed child care settings. But unfortunately in Seoul, Korea, only 2% of children with disability are taken care of in child care centers. And even the disabled children at the child care centers are mostly mentally or emotionally disabled because the building, programs and services of the centers are restrictive to the children with severe physical disabilities. This study reviewed Korean domestic physical environment of child care centers for children with disabilities. 15 centers located in Seoul were surveyed. Our survey revealed that the accessibility to buildings is poor. There are many places with difference in height of floors. Also, there are no elevators in all buildings surveyed. Accessibility to toilet is noted as significant problem, especially wet floors in toilets. In a nursing room, a space for psychological rest and special education is needed for children with mental disability. Technical specifications on how to make buildings and facilities accessible for the children with disability should be developed. The goal of this study is to provide basic information to develop domestic design guidelines to ensure that the child care centers are safe, convenient, and usable for everyone possible.

An energy problem has become one of the many Problems awaiting solution to human society. Energy needs to support not only industry, but also building in city. The types of residential building, office building and public building account for much proportion among the totally amount used energy. A public institution shows a fine example for an energy conservation in the present situation. But, the amount used energy of electricity, air-conditioning and heating is different from a building use and condition. Because the building data of the energy consumption by a load is insufficient, it is unable to select a proper energy source. According to this study, it analyzed an energy load by each building that had investigated the actual conditions of energy consumption about public buildings in Daegu City. In order to plan the efficient energy use both existing buildings and new buildings, this study will present the efficient energy use plan, which has operated to new buildings of a public institution, at present.
