The results of this research on the diversity, zonation of vegetation and micro-topography by TWINSPAN classification and DECORANA ordination, executed with Sinduri coastal dunes of Korea, are as follows: The vegetation and micro-topography of coastal dunes formed a noticeably clear zonation structure. The beach in the direction of the coastline saw a lot of appearance of Salsola komarovi and the primary dune was dominated by Elymus mollis. Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii and Carex pumila formed a colony at flat area of the sand hills and Calamagrostis epigeios was widely distributed at the wet slack. The secondary dune was dominated mostly by Ischaemum anthephoroides and Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii, and it showed an aspect of the distribution of Vitex rotundifolia and Rosa rugosa. while the hinterland hillside in the direction of inland was dominated by Robinia pseudo-acacia and Pinus thunbergii. However, Carex kobomugi, known as the pioneer species of the coastline-bound areas at the coastal dune, dominantly occupied the secondary dune of the rear side and continentally-inclined Miscanthus sinensi and Oenothera biennis of naturalized plant were irregularly spread over the whole of the coastal dune, so the stabilization of micro-topography seemed to be uncertain. Particularly, Miscanthus sinensis was predicted to be changed into dominant species of the primary dune, and secondary dune and slack having a commonly high species gathering inclination with the more progress of stabilization of the coastal dune. The expansion of sand hill wetlands and roads located between the primary dune and secondary dune was judged to have an effect on the zonation structure of plant distribution.
Here we described and illustrated two new taxa of Allium (Alliaceae) from southern part of Korea. One new species, A koreanum H. J. Choi et B. U. Oh was clearly distinguished from A. splendens of sect. Reticulato-bulbosa by larger and stellately spreading pale pink perianth, apparently exsert filaments, and conical stigma as well as chromosome number. Another new variety, A. thunbergii var. teretifolium H.J. Choi et B.U. Oh was also easily distinguished from its relatives, var. thunbergii and var. deltoides by terete and hollow leaf blade. Keys to the two species of Allium sect. Reticulato-bulbosa and the three varieties of A. thunbergii (sect. Sacculiferum) in Korea were described.
Soil microfungi of the paddy fields in Korea were isolated by the dilution plate method from soil samples of two selected sites. It was concluded that 14 species among 30 species identified were undescribed fungi in Korea. Among them, 7 species of Ascomycetous fungi were described in this paper as new to Korea. Species of the genus Talaromyces were found to be dominant in paddy field soils and they consisted of Talaromyces flavus var. flavus, T. panasenroi, T.stipitalus and T.trachyspermus. Special attention was paid on the predominant occurrance of Westerdyrella multispora which produced globose to subglobose pseudothecia containing 32 spored asci with multiseptate, cylindrical ascospores. A cellulose decomposing ascomycete, Chaetomium globosum, was also found which produce black, ostiolate perithecia furnished with numerous, wavy to undulate terminal hairs. They contain evansecent, clubshaped, 8 spored asci with lemon-shaped, olive brown ascospores. Another ascomycte, Emericellopsis terricola with Acremonium anamorph, waas isolated from two sites.
Anemone pendulisepala, recently described as a new species, is distributed in sympatry with A. reflexa, A. amurensis, and A. raddeana at Mt. taebeark and Mt. Baekdu. Anemone pendulisepala was previously proposed to be a hybrid species between A. reflexa and A. amurensis becaue it displavs overlapping features with them in involucre shape, petiole length, sepal apex and xylem shape, To verify the taxonomic status and to examine the hybridity of A. pendulisepala, sequences of ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA and the psba-trnH, rps16 and trnLF region of cpDNA from 36 accessions of 5 taxa including outgroup were analyzed. In maximum parsimony tree based on ITS sequences, A. pendulisepala had the same sequences of A. reflexa and was clustered with monophyletic A. amurensis, and then A. raddeana. Anemone pendulisepala was distinguished from the other taxa by having four base insertion in rps16 region, two species-specific bases and insertion in trnLF region. In the phylogenetic trees of combined cpDNA, A. pendulisepala showed monophyly with the bootstrap 100%. Anemone pendulisepala exhibited no polymorphism and shared no sequences with putative parental or related taxa examined in this study. Molecular data suggest that A. pendulisepala should be a distinct species, and no evidence of the hybridization was detectcd.
SEM and LM studies were made to examine the frustule of the marine epizoic diatom Pseudohimantidium pacificum Hustedt & Krasske and to examine the variability of frustule morphology. The length of the apical axis and the transapical axis were similar to other reports. but Number of labiate processes showed a variation. the Number of striae of Korean specimens were similar to those of other regions, but the areolae shape of striae showed elliptical type. Pseudohimantidium pacificum were palnktonic, tychopelagic or epizoic attached to the prosome, the genital segment and abdomen of corycaeus affinis. this species was newly recorded I Korean waters and the biogeographic boundary of this species can therefore be extended to the northern Pacific Ocean.
In order to investigate the radiation of sound from the King Song-Duk bell, we measured the sound pressure around the bell at every 30$^{\circ}$ using a microphone line array which was composed of 30 microphones separated by 15cm;total number of measurement point was 360. The sound field was estimated by using cylindrical acoustic holography. The spectrum of measured sound pressure demonstrates that it is almost like white noise in the very beginning, but in 10 seconds two close frequency components(64.06Hz, 64.38Hz) remain and make a famous beating. This beating sound is often believed to make unique sound of the King Song-Duk bell. The mode shapes of that frequency components are the same except that one is rotated by 45$^{\circ}$ from the other. This phenomenon occurs at the other pairs of components are the same except ones in very high frequency range where the mode shapes are rather complex.
The oogenesis of the Microphysogobio yaluensis was investigated using light microscopy. Various developmental oocytes appeared in the ovary of the M. yaluensis. The oogenesis is largely divided into four stages: nuclear-chromatin stage, peri-nucleoli stage, vitellogenesis (yolk vesicle and yolk granule stages), and mature stage. The nuclear-chromatin is distributed in a large germinal vesicle as threads. The peri-nucleoli stage has many acidic nucleoli lining at the inner side of the nuclear membrane and an egg envelope just weakly starts. As the oogenesis gradually proceeds, they change to the vitellogenesis stage. The oocyte become to drastically increase and the marginal area of the ooplasm is covered with many vacuoles showing no negative reactions with hematoxylin and eosin staining, called the yolk vesicle stage. Many yolk vesicles-owned oocyte largely increase and as the development continues, its ooplasm is changed from the yolk vesicles to the yolk granules of eosinophilic. At the mature stage, lots of granules merged into a big yolk mass, acidophilic. Even at the mature stage, the egg envelope was still thin between the ooplasm and the follicular layer of the oocyte.

The flow characteristics around KRISO 300K VLCC double-body model have been experimentally investigated in a closed-type subsonic wind tunnel. The local mean velocity and turbulence statistics including turbulent intensity. Reynolds shear stress and turbulent kinetic energy were measured using a x-type hot-wire probe. The measurements were carried out at several transverse stations of the stern and near wake regions. The surface flow was visualized using on oil-film technique to see the flow pattern qualitatively. The flow in the stern and near wake region revealed complicated three-dimensional flow characteristics. The VLCC model shows a hook-shaped wake structure behind the propeller boss in the main longitudinal vortex region. The thin boundary layer at midship was increased gradually in thickness over the stern and evolved into a full three-dimensional turbulent wake.
Structural stress under shock or impact load is varied with the lapse of time and the structural stress is called stress wave. Propagating longitudinal stress wave is studied in a 2-dimensional plate. A finite element program for elastic stress wave propagation is developed in order to investigate the shape of stress field at time increment. The longitudinal stress wave is generated by unit step function. According to the finite element analysis results, the longitudinal stress wave propagates to the similar direction of impact load and the front of stress wave propagates with the same speed as analytic solution and the shape of stress field is similar to that of analytic solution. The shear wave is occurred after the longitudinal stress wave and declined at an angle of 45 degrees compared with longitudinal stress wave and the speed of shear wave is about a half of the longitudinal stress wave. The intensity of shear wave is larger than that of longitudinal stress wave.

Neottia japonica (Blume) Szlach. (Orchidaceae), previously known to be native in southern part of Japan and Taiwan, was found in Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, Korea. This species is distinguished from the related taxa of Neottia pinetorum (Lindle.) Szlach and N. nipponica (Makino) Szlach. by smaller plant, lip with T-shaped lamella and auricles embracing column, and flowering in the spring. The local name was given as "A-gi-ssangnip-nan-cho" based on the cuter and smaller plant than N. pinetorum. The description and illustrations of the species on morphological characters, voucher specimens, and photograph at the habitat are provided.
