  • We must not consider a culture as means of economy. Specially, it is not possible that is supposed to incorporate a cultural identity in a shape of product, but also international competitiveness can not be raised by it. Because an identify is based on the system of symbol such as language, it can be understood only in a same cultural area. While, the value-in-use of technology can be accepted universally as a formative language of international style. Therefore, the competitiveness of design will say as a special quality that can be acquired in connection with technology. For instance, that Korean mobile telephone could be recognized worldwide is not because it has the Koreanized shape but has a high technology. The public have only a superficial understanding about design. Because that is limited in the visual aspect of product, so called 'the pretty design', which exclude the value-in-use and the organic correlation of form and function in general, it may be a cause of socio-ethical dysfunction. It is providing an elbowroom for making a mistake that can regard the product design as an artistic experiment and try to raise the international competitiveness simply with the visual aspect. And the distorted understanding about design has been diffused rapidly owing to spread of black box products because the over-designed shape is known to the public as a proper result of designing. That reorganize the design category will do as a starting point that can get rid of such a misunderstanding, and do to achieve an ideological role of design for human and society. And it will be a warning to the moral slackening that is due to regarding a style as means of competitiveness and the blindness due to thinking culture as means of economy, and we may expect to offer a basic understanding about design which can prevent products from being visualized.

  • "Color" education aimed at cultivating creativeness and expressive techniques in the education of visual art, in the college of art and design, should be balanced with "form" education; nevertheless, the present situation at Korean universities is such that the overall environments of "color" education are far too inferior to those of "form" education.The problem is, among other things, that the curriculum of visual art education is centered around formal education; in addition, color education courses consist mostly of theoretical issues, not experimental, first-hand-experience-oriented activities that are best suited for the characteristics of the language of color as a visual language, thereby making it difficult to expect the efficiency of education.Particularly, it is a serious problem that the courses dealing with color are not offered in a step by step fashion, from the most elementary, to the intermediate, working up to the most advanced level. Another problem is that those people involved in color education seldom have an expertise in their area; furthermore, the educational environment, educational tools, and the content of the texbooks are far from being ideal.Moreover, it is a grim reality that most color theory courses that have been offered end up being a lecture of "general, basic" color theories, ignoring the students' diverse specialization areas.As a way of normalizing color education, rationalizing the curriculum and initiating the professorship exclusively teaching color education have to be introduced, so that we can increase the depth of color education and individualize the contents of color education according to the students' needs. It is believed that the introduction of the "color-education-only" professorship will greatly facilitate our effort to devise an efficient educational method, to determine the scope of individualized color education, and to improve the ovarial educational environment (such as facilities, instruments, and teaching materials) necessary for an in-depth education.ments, and teaching materials) necessary for an in-depth education.

  • This thesis is research about the development and application of the panorama image in contemporary artwork, focusing on sculpture and installation. The samples of artworks are a selection of representatives from numerous examples of works that cannot be introduced without exceeding a reasonable scope of the thesis. A brief outline of the historical concepts of the perspective will describe the development of the panorama in itself. Some technical explanations and the practical use of the panorama with its link to 3-dimensional applications should bridge the explanation gap between the 2nd and 3rd dimensional usage of the panorama in contemporary artwork. Furthermore, some philosophical statements are proposed in the discussion. One of the main interests and initial motivation of this study was my personal believe that there is always a relationship between social philosophical values and the way a society sees or encounters visual structures. In other words the contemporary understanding of space and perspective is mirroring the actual zeitgeist and creates an exemplary visual aesthetics.

Non-verbal Emotional Expressions for Social Presence of Chatbot Interface (챗봇의 사회적 현존감을 위한 비언어적 감정 표현 방식)

  • The users of a chatbot messenger can be better engaged in the conversation if they feel intimacy with the chatbot. This can be achieved by the chatbot's effective expressions of human emotions to chatbot users. Thus motivated, this study aims to identify the appropriate emotional expressions of a chatbot that make people feel the social presence of the chatbot. In the background research, we obtained that facial expression is the most effective way of emotions and movement is important for relationship emersion. In a survey, we prepared moving text, moving gestures, and still emoticon that represent five emotions such as happiness, sadness, surprise, fear, and anger. Then, we asked the best way for them to feel social presence with a chatbot in each emotion. We found that, for an arousal and pleasant emotion such as 'happiness', people prefer moving gesture and text most while for unpleasant emotions such as 'sadness' and 'anger', people prefer emoticons. Lastly, for the neutral emotions such as 'surprise' and 'fear', people tend to select moving text that delivers clear meaning. We expect that this results of the study are useful for developing emotional chatbots that enable more effective conversations with users.

  • This paper proposes a human action recognition scheme to recognize nonverbal human communications automatically. Based on the principle that a human body action can be defined as a combination of multiple articulation movements, we use the method of inferencing stochastic grammars to understand each human actions. We measure and quantize each human action in 3D world-coordinate, and make two sets of 4-chain-code for xy and zy projection plane. Based on the fact that the neighboring information among articulations is an essential element to distinguish actions, we designed a new stochastic inference procedure to apply the neighboring information of hands. Our proposed scheme shows better recognition rate than that of other general stochastic inference procedures. ures.

  • 한국어는 형태론적으로 굴절어에 속하는 언어로서, 어휘의 형태가 문장 속에서 문법적인 기능을 하게 되고, 형태론적으로 풍부한 언어라는 특징 때문에 조사나 어미와 같은 기능어들이 다양하게 내용어들과 결합한다. 이와 같은 특징들은 한국어를 대상으로 하는 구 기반 통계적 기계번역 시스템에서 데이터 부족문제(Data Sparseness problem)를 더욱 크게 부각시킨다. 하지만, 한국어의 몇몇 조사와 어미는 함께 결합되는 내용어에 따라 의미는 같지만 두 가지의 형태를 가지는 이형태로 존재한다. 따라서 본 논문에서 이러한 이형태들을 하나로 표준화하여 데이터부족 문제를 완화하고, 베트남-한국어 통계적 기계 번역에서 성능이 개선됨을 보였다.

  • 한글의 신속하고 정확한 정보전달 기능을 유지 발전 시킴과 동시에, 정보 전달의 목적 및 효율성을 높이기 위하여, 인간심리에 직접 영향 미치는 시각적 이미지를 지니는 조형적 문자의 서체 및 기능 개발에 필요한 현행 한글서체들의 시각적 이미지에 대한 분석적 연구를 시도하였다. "한글의 시각적 이미지 다양화에 관한 연구" 에서의 네모틀 고수형의 한글 이미지 연구에 이어 금번에는 컴퓨터에서 지원 사용되는 탈네모꼴의 한글 12종을 제목용과 본문용으로 나누고 각각 그 굵기에 따른 이미지를 표본조사 및 수치분류적 기법에 의한 이미지 특성을 분석하였다. 연구결과, 한글 탈내모꼴 서체는 크게 3개의 그룹으로 구분되며, 전반적으로 그 이미지의 강도에 있어 약한것으로 나타났으며, 각 서체의 제목용및 본문용의 각각의 굵기에 해당하는 이미지가 동일한 것으로 나타나 안정된 이미지를 보유하는 서체로는 스케치체와로 나타났다. 이 같은 한글서체의 이미지 분류 연구는, 한글서체 개발이 수치적 분석에 의하여 방향정립 및 높은 예측성을 지닐 수 있으며, 목적지향적인 폰트개발 및 균형있는 서체운용 체계의 운용에 의하여 극대화될 수 있다.

  • 본 논문에서는 기호로 둘러싸인 내포문이 포함된 문장의 번역 성능을 높이는 방법을 제안한다. 입력 문장에서 내포문을 추출하여 여러 문장으로 나타내고, 각각의 문장들을 번역한다. 그리고 번역된 문장들을 복원정보를 활용하여 최종 번역 문장을 생성한다. 이러한 방법론은 입력 문장의 길이를 줄여주며, 그로 인하여 문장 구조가 단순해져 번역 품질이 향상된다. 본 논문에서는 한국어-베트남어 통계 기반 번역기에 대하여 제안한 방법론을 적용하고 실험하였다. 그 결과 BLEU 점수가 약 1.5 향상된 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Analysis of the relationship between e-brand personalities and visual attributes (웹페이지 디자인의 이브랜드 개성 구축을 위한 시각조형특성 분석)

  • The brand personality of online products and services is know as its e-brand personality. Although, in the competitive conditions of online markets, e-brand personality is agreed to be an important factor, few studies have suggested how to establish e-brand personality through the visual design of web sites. This study identifies and verifies causal relationships between the visual attributes of web pages and e-brand personalities. The first identifies four major dimensions of e-brand personality on diverse web sites. The second uses 52 experimental home pages to identify key visual attributes associated with those four personality dimensions. The third is a confirmatory study with 16 experimental web sites that verifies causal relationships between visual attributes and e-brand personalities. The results show that two visual attributes, 'simplicity' and 'cohesion,' help to establish a 'bold' personality. Three attributes, 'contrast,' 'density,' and 'regularity,' affect whether a site has an 'analytical' personality. 'Contrast,' 'cohesion,' 'density,' and 'regularity' all influence whether a web site is perceived to have a 'friendly' personality. 'Regularity' and 'balance' were expected to affect the 'sophisticated' personality dimension, but no such impact was observed. The paper concludes with a discussion of implications, limitations, and future research directions.

  • In line with the development of Media, the use of character has been developed in various ways. Specially, it has been emerged the functions of written language of visualization and delivery of emotion in the digitalized environment due to speedy growth of internet and Mobile. The emoticons emerged as a tool for the convenience of communication proved to have taken effective role in the part of communication culture. Particularly, Hangul emoticons which contains the meaning of communication and sharing in tandem with the principle of Hangul invention, provides convenience in combination & use due to its structural and design characteristic for which it plays a significant role of visual element. Hangul emoticon is definitely a part of Hangul culture and in view of globalization of visual language in connection with media development, there is a huge potential being to be used as a international communication tool. In this study, it will be reviewed on the increased utilization of Hangul emoticons and related public issues as being a part of typography media, in view of the generalization of private media as well as change of subjective user.
