  • Sub-arrays of arbitrary conformal array have different geometric shape through steering direction, thus the beam patterns of sub-arrays are always non-uniform. In this paper, we apply the beam pattern synthesis method using convex optimization into the conformal array, and shows the improvement of uniformity of beam performance. The simulation is performed with the conformal array of cut-sphere shape. As a result, the standard deviation of 3 dB beamwidth in elevation is greatly reduced but the directivity index is also reduced. To alleviate this trade-off, we propose a convex optimization using a shading function.

  • In this study, a simulation program is developed in order to investigate non steady-state cornering performance of 6WD/6WS special-purpose vehicles. 6WD vehicles are believed to have good performance on off-the-road maneuvering and to have fail-safe capabilities. But the cornering performances of 6WS vehicles are not well understood in the related literature. In this paper, 6WD/6WS vehicles are modeled as a 18 DOF system which includes non-linear vehicle dynamics, tire models, and kinematic effects. Then the vehicle model is constructed into a simulation program using the MATLAB/SIMULINK so that input/output and vehicle parameters can be changed easily with the modulated approach. Cornering performance of the 6WS vehicle is analyzed for brake steering and pivoting, respectively. Simulation results show that cornering performance depends on the middle-wheel steering as well as front/rear wheel steering. In addition, a new 6WS control law is proposed in order to minimize the sideslip angle. Lane change simulation results demonstrate the advantage of 6WS vehicles with the proposed control law.

  • AESA radar is able to instantaneously and adaptively position and control the beam, and such adaptive beam pointing of AESA radar enables to remarkably improve the multi-mission capability, compared with mechanically scanned array radar. AESA radar brings a new challenges, radar resource management(RRM), which is a technique efficiently allocating finite resources, such as energy and time to each task in an optimal and intelligent way. Especially radar beam scheduling is the most critical component for the success of RRM. In this paper, we proposed stochastic radar beam scheduling algorithm using simulated annealing(SA), and evaluated the performance on the multi-function radar scenario. As a result, we showed that our proposed algorithm is superior to previous dispatching rule based scheduling algorithm from the viewpoint of beam processing latency and the number of scheduled beams, with real time capability.

  • In this paper, for the mechanical beam steering of the Cassegrain antenna, the steering performances of the main reflector tilting method are characterized, and the Cassegrain antenna for the antenna rotating method is designed and its performances are measured. In the Cassegrain antenna operating at W-band, the changes of characteristics due to changes in the sizes of the main/sub-reflectors and other structural changes are analyzed to obtain the structural variables satisfying the performance goal. The manufactured antenna in W-band shows the measured gain of 42.08 dBi, 3 dB beamwidth of $1.32^{\circ}$, $1.14^{\circ}$ and the return loss($S_{11}$) of -23.58 dB at the center frequency of 94 GHz.

  • Conventionally, 2WS is used for vehicle sleeting, which can only steering front wheel. In case of trying to high speed slalom or emergency through this kind of vehicle equipped 2WS, it may occur much of side slip angle. On the other hand, 4WS makes decreasing of side slip angle, outstandingly, so it is possible to support vehicle movement stable. And conventional ABS and TCS can only possible control the longitudinal movement of braking equipment and drive which can only availab to control of longitudinal direction. There after new braking system ESP was developed, which controls both of longitudinal and lateral, with adding of the function of controlling Active Yaw Moment.

  • We first numerically analyzed the characteristics of a silicon-based grating structure for beam steering. The analysis includes the basic principle of the grating structure according to the wavelength, peak radiation angle, radiation efficiency, and full-width at the half maximum(FWHM) of the radiation angle. Based on the analysis, we propose a silicon-based grating structure integrated with distributed Bragg reflector(DBR) to obtain a high radiation efficiency and narrow beam width simultaneously. We performed the numerical optimization of the radiation efficiency and FWHM of the radiation angle according to the DBR position. By the design optimization using the proposed grating structure compatible with the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor(CMOS) process, we achieved a maximum radiation efficiency of 87.1% and minimum FWHM of radiation angle of $4.68^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, lane recognition, steering control and speed control algorithms were developed using Bluetooth wireless communication and image processing techniques. Instead of recognizing road traffic signals based on image processing techniques, a methodology for recognizing the permissible road speed by receiving speed codes from electronic traffic signals using Bluetooth wireless communication was developed. In addition, a steering control algorithm based on PWM control that tracks the lanes using the Canny algorithm and Hough transform was developed. A vehicle prototype and a driving test track were developed to prove the accuracy of the developed algorithm. Raspberry Pi and Arduino were applied as main control devices for steering control and speed control, respectively. Also, Python and OpenCV were used as implementation languages. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology was confirmed by demonstrating effectiveness in the lane tracking and driving control evaluation experiments using a vehicle prototypes and a test track.
