The implementation of Korean adult's optimal formant setting by Praat scripting (성인 포먼트 측정에서의 최적 세팅 구현: Praat software와 관련하여)

  • An automated Praat script was implemented to measure optimal formant frequencies for adults. Optimal formant analysis could be interpreted to show that the deviation of formant frequency that resulted from the two variously combined setting parameters (maximum formant and number of formants) was minimal. To increase the reliability of formant analysis, LPC order should be set differently, based on the gender or vowel type. Praat recommends 5,000 Hz and 5,500 Hz as maximum formant settings and, at the same time, recommends 5 as the number of formants for males and females. However, verification is needed to determine whether these recommended settings are valid for Korean vowels. Statistical analysis showed that formant frequencies significantly varied across the adapted scripts, especially with respect to the data on females. Formant plots and statistical results showed that linear_script and qtone_script are much more reliable in formant measurements. Among four kinds of scripts, the linear and qtone_scripts proved to be more stable and reliable. While the linear_script was designed to have a linearly increased formant step in for-loop, the increment of formant step in the qtone_script was arranged by quarter tone scale (base frequency×common ratio ($\sqrt[24]{2}$)). When looking at the tendency of the formant setting drawn by the two referred algorithms in the context of front vowel [i, e], the maximum formant was set higher; and the number of formants set at a lower value than recommended by Praat. The back vowel [o, u], on the contrary, has a lower maximum formant and a higher number of formants than the standard setting.

Development of FACS-based Android Head for Emotional Expressions (감정표현을 위한 FACS 기반의 안드로이드 헤드의 개발)

  • This paper proposes the creation of an android robot head based on the facial action coding system(FACS), and the generation of emotional expressions by FACS. The term android robot refers to robots with human-like appearance. These robots have artificial skin and muscles. To make the expression of emotions, the location and number of artificial muscles had to be determined. Therefore, it was necessary to anatomically analyze the motions of the human face by FACS. In FACS, expressions are composed of action units(AUs), which work as the basis of determining the location and number of artificial muscles in the robots. The android head developed in this study had servo motors and wires, which corresponded to 30 artificial muscles. Moreover, the android head was equipped with artificial skin in order to make the facial expressions. Spherical joints and springs were used to develop micro-eyeball structures, and the arrangement of the 30 servo motors was based on the efficient design of wire routing. The developed android head had 30-DOFs and could express 13 basic emotions. The recognition rate of these basic emotional expressions was evaluated at an exhibition by spectators.

Studies on Erosion Amount of the Newly - Constructed Forest Road (신설임도(新設林道)의 초기침식량(初期侵蝕量)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This research was carried out to investigate the influences of forest road characteristics and rainfalls on the amount of erosion on the newly - constructed forest road in the Research Forests of Seoul National University located in Mt. Backwoon - san, Kwangyang. Amount of soil erosion on the newly - constructed forest road was measured for 2 years since the forest road construction. Using the stepwise multiple regression method, amount of soil erosion from cut - slopes, fill - slopes, road surfaces, and side - ditches were seperately expressed as a function of statistically significant road design and rainfall factors, and multiple regression models to estimate the amount of soil erosion were significant to explain the variance in erosion by each structures. According to results of this study, amount of erosion from the newly - constructed forest road was estimated as much as 668.51m/km for 2 years. Out of total amount of soil erosion, 21.9%(144.27m/km) from cut - slopes, 39.8%(261.89m/km) from fill - slopes, 8.1%(53.33m/km) from road surfaces, and 30.2%(199.02m/km) from side - ditches were occurred.

Impedance-matching Method Improving the Performance of the SAW Filter (탄성표면파 필터의 성능 개선을 위한 임피던스 정합의 해석적 방법)

  • In this paper, a fast and easy impedance matching method, which could give the impedance matching component for the general 1 or 2-port network was introduced. First, the entire network structure was defined which consists of the network part to be matched and the impedance matching part composed of inductors and capacitors. Next, the transmission matrix and input and output impedances of the entire network from the terminal impedance conditions were calculated, then the exact solutions for the matching components were obtained. To verify the efficiency of this method, this method was applied to the CDMA If band withdrawal weighted SAW transversal filter, and investigated the effects of the impedance matching before and after, through the simulation and experiment. As the result, the performance of a fractional bandwidth of 1.2%, insertion loss of 29 dB, and VSWR of 80 have improved to a factional bandwidth of 1.8%, insertion loss of 9 dB, VSWR of 3 at 85.38 MHz center frequency. The result shows that this impedance matching method could be used in the SAW devices and other types of 1 or 2-port network.

  • In the face of current environment of changing markets and increasing competition, regional financial institutions are also attempting to meet the needs of customers using various methods such as offering new services that satisfy customer demands. This study seeks to determine for regional financial institutions which service products and quality factors affect customer satisfaction and loyalty, and compare service products and service quality sources with the goal of observing the comparative importance of each service factor. This sample is conducted by visiting customer survey from October 7th to October 30th, 2015 to Korea Credit Union Cooperative Association and Seoul Consumer Association. The sample is analyzed as follows. interest rate, deduction, insurance and welfare business had a significant effect on customer satisfaction level among the commodity factors of local financial institution, and accessibility, professionalism and empathy affect service satisfaction level. Second, customer satisfaction has a significant effect on customer loyalty. In addition to the interest rate and professionalism factors, it is analyzed that deductions, insurance and welfare projects and empathy are important factors in the local financial institutions contributing to the local economy while providing financial convenience to local residents. This study suggests key points that regional financial institutions can use to differentiate their image in the competitive financial markets.

  • Today's computing system has expanded its application to business trade and distributed work transactions using the Internet. As the demand for more flexible, adaptable, extensible, and robust web-based enterprise, these application development has been gradually expanded based on reusable, independent, and portable components. Component Based Development (CBD) works by developing and evolving software from selected reusable software components and then assembling them within appropriate software architecture. However, it requires an increase in cost to build new components as well as the necessary effort to develop of the business requirement these components. Standardized component models are required as well from the perspective of systems in order to support rapid and exact component information transmission on the web. In this paper, we describe the e-Business Component Development with agent for rapid application development on the web that correspond to the demands of users in the business domain. We design and implement the specifications of e-business components by combining these demands. In order to improve the agent register and retrieval, we propose the intelligent search and register agents, which can conduct more precise searching and specializing for components. The system enables the locating of user's frequently used components through an agent involving register and retrieval, as well as rapid procedures for registers The e-BCOS (e-Business Component System) is the agent system for the user to register distributed components and to search for components Information. The e-BCOS increases reusability through the e-business component development of distributed components in the business domain. For the share and delivery, specification with XML is acceptable to user's variable order e-BCOS Includes the effective investment, timeliness, reliability, efficiency, and maintenance effort by with agent.

An Efficiency Analysis of Industry-University-Public Research Institute Collaborative Research: Employing the Input-Output Itemization Model (투입 및 산출 분해모형을 활용한 산학연 협력연구의 효율성 분석)

  • This study analyzed collaborative R&D projects funded by the Korean government from 2013-2015. For this analysis, input and output variables of projects were considered, and a combination of those variables was itemized. The output-oriented variable return to scale (VRS) model extended from the DEA methodology was adopted to evaluate the cooperation efficiency of the types of R&D collaboration, which were classified according to the project leader's organizations. In addition, hierarchical cluster analysis was conducted using the efficiency results of the scientific, technical, and economical outcome models. The results showed that cooperation efficiency between large companies and public research institutions was relatively high. Conversely, cooperation among medium-sized companies, small businesses and universities was particularly inefficient. The clustering results demonstrated the various strengths and weaknesses of the types depending on publications, patents, technical loyalties and the number of commercialization. In conclusion, this study suggests differentiated investment portfolios and strategies based on the efficiency results of diverse cooperation types among industries, universities and public research institutions.

A Study on the Usefulness of Subjective Lumbar Instability Factor for Respiratory Pattern Change and Abdominal Mobility in Peoples with CLBP (만성허리통증자의 호흡 패턴과 배부 운동성 변화에 대한 주관적 허리부위 불안정성 요소의 유용성에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined the correlation between the respiratory pattern change (RPC) and abdominal mobility (AM) according to the positive result of the subjective lumbar instability factor (SLIF) in people with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Thirty-six adults with CLBP participated in this study. Twenty-eight items of the SLIFs were examined, and the subjects were divided into three groups according to the positive response numbers (PRN). After the change lists were scored, three RPC scores [costo-diaphragmatic RPC (CDRPC), breath hold change (BHC), and total RPC (TRPC)] were obtained. The abdominal mobility (AM) was measured between the maximal inspiration and exhalation at the xiphoid (AM1) and the 10th rib (AM2) level of the trunk. The results showed that the RPC score and AM were compared according to the positive response number of SLIF, and the relationship between them was analyzed. A positive correlation was observed between the SLIF positive response number and CDRPC score, BHC score, and total RPC score, and a negative correlation was observed between the SLIFs positive response number and AM1 and AM2. Based on the results of this study, the combination of SLIF positive responses can be a predictor of non-physiological respiratory pattern changes in people with CLBP. Clinically, this prediction is expected to help save time for screening and improve the efficiency of therapy.

How Do Firms' Innovation Behaviors Affect their Outputs in Korea? (기업의 혁신 활동이 기업성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study empirically investigates applicable possibility of open technology innovation with which the government is concerned, by figuring out the relationship between firms' innovation behaviors and innovation outputs and their utilization of information network. Empirical methodology was employed as logit regression to explain firms' innovation behaviors and the data set includes more than 2500 firms in the manufacturing sectors. First, empirical findings showed that firms' innovation competencies and behaviors can be explained as the trend of patent application, sales and innovation outputs significantly. The patents of small and medium-sized businesses are inclined to be positive to information sources of university and government-supported research institute and the sales increased when they had labs to concentrate on R&D. On the other hand, the existence of labor union turn out to be negative to their sales. Second, the types of information network which firms utilize turned out to be connected with their innovation behaviors and purposes. Third, four types of innovation, i.e., product, process, organization, and marketing innovation was employed and innovation behaviors and outputs are well connected.

A Study of the Identity of Hangul Typography (한글 타이포그라피의 정체성에 관한 연구)

  • Hangul came to life as part of the East Asian culture of the Chinese ideograph. Korean letter-culture is starkly different from that of Western letter-culture. In the Orient, letters were sacred and incantory; they were objects of awe, which incorporated elements of the majestic, mysterious, and of ritual. Here we had cultural tradition that acknowledged the intrinsic value of the letters. And it was in this context that Hangul was born as a completely phonetic system of writing. However, the characteristics of Hangul are quite different from those of Chinese ideographs, which are designed to convey a certain meaning. Despite the fact that Hangul is phonetic, its roots lie most definitely in the image of Chinese ideographs. This is something that contrasts with the roots of the Latin alphabet, which have been lost in its long journey of evolution. As a phonetic writing system, a notable characteristic of Hangul is that it has this and the attributes of image. In other words, in that Hangul is a compound, it shares some of the same attributes as Chinese ideographs, but also in that it is a phonetic writing system it is dose to the Latin alphabet. Hangul is definitely a visual writing system that has its origins in the visual culture of Chinese characters as well as being functionally a highly developed phonetic writing system. In short, Hangul has both of these attributes in one writing system. These characteristics of Hangul, for us living in the era of the image, are parts that awaken us to the meaning of existence in our visual culture. Unique among the world's writing systems, the identity of Hangul typography will become none other than the essence of our visual culture.
