High Efficiency Switch-Mode LED driver for Visible Light Communication System (가시광 통신 시스템을 위한 고효율 스위치모드 LED 구동회로)

  • Recently, the LED(Light Emitting Diode) replacing incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent light has great attentions as a most promising candidate for the next generation lighting source due to its environment-friendly characteristics, long life and excellent efficiency. Moreover, since it is a semiconductor device which can convert the electric energy to visible light at a very high speed, it can also used as a communication device. Therefore, the VLC(Visible Light Communication) using the LED can perform the near field communication and lighting function at the same time without additional expenses. However, since the switching device of the conventional LED driver for VLC is operated in the linear region, there exist several drawbacks such as a poor power conversion efficiency and serious heat generation. On the other hand, since the proposed driver is operated in the on/off switching region, it features a higher efficiency and more improved heat generation. To verify the validity of the proposed LED driver, experimental results from a prototype of 20W rated LED driver applied to 3MHz bps broadcasting audio system are given.

Modified Thermal-divergence Model for a High-power Laser Diode (고출력 레이저 다이오드 광원의 열저항 개선을 위한 하부층 두께 의존성 수정 모델)

  • The design and control of thermal flow is important for the operation of high-power laser diodes (LDs). It is necessary to analyze and improve the thermal bottleneck near the active layer of an LD. As the error in prediction of the thermal resistance of an LD is large, typically due to the hyperbolic increase and saturation to linear increase of the thermal resistance as a function of thickness, it is helpful to use a simple, modified divergence model for the improvement and optimization of thermal resistance. The characteristics of LDs are described quite well, in that the values for simulated thermal resistance curves and the thermal cross section followed are almost the same as the values from the model function. Also, the thermal-cross-section curve obtained by differentiating the thermal resistance is good for identifying thermal bottlenecks intuitively, and is also fitted quite well by the model proposed for both a typical LD structure and an improved LD with thin capping and high thermal conductivity.

Building Energy Savings due to Incorporated Daylight-Glazing Systems (통합 채광시스템의 건물 냉난방 에너지 성능평가)

  • The quantity of light available for a space can be translated in term of the amount of energy savings through a process of a building energy simulation. To get significant energy savings in general illumination, the electric lighting system must be incorporated with a daylight - activated dimmer control. A prototype configuration of an once interior has been established and the integration between the building envelope and lighting and HVAC systems is evaluated based on computer modeling of a lighting control facility. First of all, an energy-efficient luminaire system is designed and the lighting analysis program, Lumen-Micro 2000 predicts the optimal layout of a conventional fluorescent lighting future to meet the designed lighting level and calculates unit power density, which translates the demanded met of electric lighting energy. A dimming control system integrated with the contribution of daylighting has been applied to the operating of the artificial lighting. Annual cooling load due to lighting and the projecting saving amount of cooling load due to daylighting under overcast diffuse sky m evaluated by computer software ENER-Win. In brief, the results from building energy simulation with measured daylight illumination levels and the performance of lighting control system indicate that daylighting can save over 70 percent of the required energy for general illumination in the perimeter zones through the year A 25[%] of electric energy for cooling and almost all off heating energy may be saved by dimming and turning off the luminaires in the perimeter zones.

  • The purpose of this study is to develope a current variation control system appropriate to the various LED(Light Emitting Diode) lamps using current control system equipped with microcontroller based voltage regulator of power driving circuit. For this, we will suggest a stable control system of current variation to enable a stable power-supply and current-control, consisting of circuit to minimize the affects on the LED forward voltage using variable resistance and compensating resistance. The method of constant current circuit and energy savings using microcontroller based voltage regulator suggested in this study can be applied to various a big capacity LED lamp to minimize the unnecessay heat generation and to control resistace delicately. Ultimately, we expect the results of this study will upgrade the reliability of LED lamp by supplying the current stably.

  • An LED lighting control system was developed to combine information technology and LED lights for efficient management and energy savings. The system can monitor and control the status of an LED luminaire using Bluetooth wireless communication, sensor technology, and smart phones. An LED lighting control circuit was designed using a temperature sensor, illumination sensor, and Bluetooth module with a fuzzy constant-current control circuit. We extended the lifetime and prevented damage to the LED by optimizing the supply current of the LED luminaire based on the heat-generation temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ of an LED heat sink. We also automatically adjusted the ON/OFF time depending on the ambient illumination of the LED luminaire. By allowing easy control of the LED luminaires on a smartphone, we improved the efficiency and achieved energy savings. The control system was validated through experiments for normal operation.

  • There are over 30[%] of electric fires in Korea happened at wire or wiring devices. For its prevention many safety devices are set up electric equipments. These safety devices are not working in a rated current's condition of electric equipment. But when wire is partially disconnected, electric fire is able to be happened even though current is smaller than a rated current value. This paper studied thermal characteristics and fire ability when wire in plug is partially disconnected. The experiment is progressed a method that inner wire of plug is partially disconnected and after that current that is less than a rated current is flowed. As the result, heating occurred in near of partially disconnected wire makes that outer sheath is melted, plug cover is carbonized, and even sometimes wire is fused. And results of analysis of thermal image of partially disconnected wire happened in plug, it shows a difference to heating distribution and temperature appeared surface of plug depend on a progress of a partially disconnected wire.

  • Generally, high frequency switching DC-DC converter that DC power supply for discharge lamp drive to generate ultraviolet rays(UV) is acted by hard switching mode is used. Therefore in this paper, wish to mix first existent first-side status phase shift PWM DC-DC converter and posing secondary-side status phase shift PWM DC-DC converter by high frequency link DC-DC converter that use soft switching circuit technology and develop DC power supply for discharge lamp drive. DC power supply driving Discharge lamp proposed describe validity through simulation and an experiment.

  • In this paper describes the process of designing a protection circuit against an open or short electronic ballast. An open electronic ballast creates high voltages in a regular period, which a lies voltage stress on switching devices. On the other hand, a shorted output generates excessive current, causing problems such as heat generation in the ballast and reduced lifespan of semiconductor devices. This study proposes a protection circuit consisting of TTL and passive devices to resolve the problems. The proposed protection circuit offers the benefits of low cost and high reliability. The proposed circuit was connected to an actual ballast to demonstrate its applicability.

  • In this paper, a temperature control for LED(Light Emitting Diode) lamp using a cooling fan is studied. An efficient temperature control scheme for the LED lamp using the fan wind at the lowest sound noise is studied. Also, for minimization study of sound noise and temperature control of an LED lamp, a sequential control algorithm using the cooling fan at the lowest sound noise is presented. For the study, after measurement of the minimum sound noise of the fan and related temperature of the LED lamp through tests, experiments on temperature control of the LED lamp using the fan was performed.

To minimize the fan sound noise, optimal size of the heat sink was studied. Also, a teleoperting control of LED lamps using RF communication was studied.
