Role of Sand Shoal in the Intertidal Flat Sedimentation, Gomso Bay, Southwestern Korea (서해 곰소만 조간대 퇴적작용에서 모래톱의 역할)

  • A sand shoal (1300 m long and 400 m wide) with an orientation of north-south is formed on the lower tidal flat of Gomso Bay, southwestern coast of Korea. Surface bedforms, sedimentary structures, sedimentation rate, grain size distribution and can-corer sediments have been measured and analysed along the sand shoal proper zone B and its offshore zone A and onshore zone C during the period of 14 months. These three zones can be differentiated based on sedimentological characteristics: A zone - fine sand (3${\varphi}$ mean), linguoid-type ripples, 70 mm/month in sedimentation rate and no bioturbation, B zone - medium sand (2.5${\varphi}$ mean), dunes (4${\sim}$5 m in wavelength), 30 mm/month in sedimentation rate and no bioturbation, and C zone - coarse silt (5${\varphi}$ mean), sinuous-type ripples, 10 mm/month in sedimentation rate and well-developed bioturbation. These characteristics indicate that the zone C represents a relatively low-energy regime environment whereas the zone A corresponds to a relatively high-energy environment. The zone B would play an important role for a barrier to dissipate the approaching wave energy, resulting in maintaining of low-energy conditions in the inner part of Gomso-Bay intertidal flat behind.

Characteristics on Chemical Activation and VOCs Adsorption of Activated Carbon according to Mixing Ratio of Anthracite and Lignite (활성탄 제조시 유·무연탄 혼합에 따른 화학적 활성화 및 휘발성유기화합물 흡착 특성)

  • In this study, to improve the low surface area of domestic anthracite as raw materials of activated carbon, characteristics on chemical activation and VOCs adsorption of activated carbon according to mixing ratio of anthracite and lignite. For these, properties of raw materials, parameter characteristics of preparation processes for activated carbon, and VOCs adsorption characteristic of the prepared activated carbon are analyzed. The experimental results showed that, the domestic anthracite had disadvantages of high contents for ash and lead, arsenic, which were exceeded for the heavy metal limits, in the properties of raw materials. To improve these diadvantages, using the mixing ratio of anthracite and lignite, and the optimum conditions for pretreatment, activation, washing, and pellitization process, the activated carbon had a range of BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) surface area of $1,154{\sim}1,420m^2g^{-1}$ with mesopore development and hydrophobic surface property. The carbons were satisfied with the quality standard for granular activated carbon, and had similar physicochemical properties with the commercial activated carbon. The minimum mixing condition for commercial VOCs activated carbon performance must have the caloric value of above $5,640kcal\;kg^{-1}$, and the carbon had higher adsorption capacity with order of xylene > toluene > benzene according to more higher molcular weight and hydrophobic property.

Fabrication and Transmission Experiment of the Distributed Feedback Laser Diode(DFB-LD) Module for 2.5Gbps Optical Telecommunication System (2.5Gbps 광통신용 distrbuted feedback laser diode(DFB-LD) 모듈 제작 및 광송신 실험)

  • We designed and fabricated the single mode fiber pigtailed DFB-LD module for 2.5 Gbps optical communication system. In the design of the DFB-LD module, we made the module divided into two parts of inner sub-module and outer 14-pin butterfly package and cylindrical shaped sub-module contain quasi confocal 2 lens system including optical isolator and electrical connection between these parts via hybrid substrate of bias T circuit. Laser welding was used to assemble the sub-module which requires accurate fixing between optical elements. The fabricated DFB-LD module showed optical coupling efficiency of 20% and - 3 dB small signal response of more than 2.6 GHz. We confirmed mechanical reliability of the module by temperature cycle test where the tested module exhibit optical power fluctuation of less than 10%. Finally we evaluated the performance of the fabricated DFB-LD module as light source of 2.5 Gbps optical communication system, sensitivity of - 30.2 dBm was obtained through 47 km optical fiber transmission under the criterion of $1\times10^{-10}$ BER and transmission penalties were 1.5 dB caused by extinction ratio and 1.0 dB caused by chromatic dispersion of normal single mode fiber. fiber.

  • 용접은 산업계의 기계 조립 및 접합을 위한 공정의 주요한 작업으로 조선, 중공업, 건설 등 산업현장에서 사람에 의한 수동적인 작업으로 대부분 수행된다. 이러한 용접 작업을 수행하는 용접 기술자는 산업 현장 훈련원과 직업 교육 학교에서 양성되지만 용접 훈련 과정은 실습 초보자에게 위험하고, 장시간 교육하기에 어려울 뿐 아니라 재료 낭비, 의사 소통의 한계, 즉석 결과 평가의 한계, 공간부족 등 다양한 문제가 있다. 그러므로, 안전하고 반복적인 실습 환경 제공하고 장시간 및 다수 교육참여 지원 등이 가능한 시스템을 구축하여 숙련된 우수 인력 조기 확보와 훈련 비용을 절감할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 실제와 동일한 상호작용을 제공할 뿐만 아니라 고품질로 훈련 환경을 가시화하여 용접 상황을 동일하게 모사하는 가상 현실 기반 용접 훈련 시뮬레이터를 제시한다. 이 시스템은 용접의 형상과 환경의 고품질 가시화, 경험 DB를 통한 용접의 비드 형상 데이터 획득, 용접 토치를 이용하는 사용자 상호작용, 용접 훈련 결과 평가 및 최적 작업 가이드, 용접 콘텐츠 저작, 다양한 용접 훈련을 가시화하는 하드웨어 플랫폼으로 구성된다. 고품질 가상 용접 가시화는 경험 DB 기반 비드 형상 데이터와 신경회로망을 이용한 비드 형상 예측을 통해 실시간 비드 표현이 이루어지며 쉐이더 기반 고품질 모재 및 비드 표현, 아크 불꽃 효과 표현을 포함한다. 사용자 상호작용은 현장 작업 도구와 일치된 토치 인터페이스와 위치추적을 이용하여 토치의 작업각, 진행각, 속도, 거리 등을 반영할 수 있으며 진동과 소리 등 용접 훈련의 사실적 상호작용도 재현하였다. 용접 훈련 평가 및 최적 작업 가이드는 훈련자의 용접속도, 거리, 각도 등의 사용자 작업 결과를 그래픽으로 표현하고, 애니메이션을 통한 훈련 자세를 추후 분석할 수 있도록 하였고, 가상토치, 기준선, 수치계기 등을 이용한 최적 작업 훈련 가이드 제시하였다. 훈련 콘텐츠 저작은 메뉴UI 기반으로 용접의 전류, 전압 등의 조건과 상황을 선택하도록 제시하였고, 하드웨어 플랫폼은 워크벤치형 입체 디스플레이 방식으로 용접 환경을 가시화하였고, 위, 정면, 아래보기 등 다양한 용접 자세 변경을 지원 할 수 있도록 구축하였다. 이러한 가상현실 기반 훈련 시뮬레이터는 아크열 발생에 따른 장시간 훈련의 어려움을 극복할 수 있고, 다양한 실습 환경을 바꾸어 가며 반복적인 훈련이 가능하고, 실 재료를 사용하지 않아 재료의 낭비를 줄일 수 있는 환경 친화적인 안전하고 효율적인 훈련 실습 환경을 제공할 수 있다.

  • Modular building is a prefabricated construction system for building where factory-produced pre-engineered modular units are delivered to site and assembled as substantial elements of a building. There are two basic kinds of modular structures. One is a load-bearing wall structure designed to transfer the load through longitudinal walls. The other is a frame structure composed of columns and beams. For frame structure, square hollow section is often used as a column member and channel as a beam member in modular unit. Lower and upper modules are fasten with bolts via a pre-installed access hole in the SHS column. However, the access holes can weaken the panel zone that would affect the behavior of beam to column connection. The 5 specimens of beam to column connections with parameters of access hole, column thickness and diaphragm were made and this paper describes the test results.

Design and Fabrication of Ka-Band Microstrip to Waveguide Transitions Using E-Plane Probes (E-평면 프로브를 이용한 Ka 대역 마이크로스트립-도파관 변환기의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, two kinds of E-plane microstrip-to-waveguide transitions are optimally designed and fabricated for combining output power from multiple small-power amplifiers in a WR-28 waveguide because conventional K connectors cause unnecessary insertion loss and adaptor loss. The transition design is based on target specifications such as a center frequency of 35 GHz, bandwidth of ${\pm}500MHz$, 0.1 dB insertion loss and 20 dB return loss. Performance variation caused by mechanical tolerance and assembly deviation is fully evaluated by three dimensional electromagnetic simulation. The fabricated back-to-back transitions with 16 mm and 26.57 mm interstage microstrip lines show insertion loss per transition of ~0.1 dB at 35 GHz and average 0.2 dB over full Ka band. Also the back-to-back transition shows return loss greater than 15 dB, which implies that the transition itself has return loss better than 20 dB.

  • The study investrgated the properti es of lh$\xi$ dust~ from felToalloy manufacture, The chemical composition, composItron material, particle size and shapes of the bulk dust, sized dust and magnetically separated dust were llivestigated. As the result, we s suppose that the dust from HLgh Carbon Fenomauganesc Manufacturing Process is not sufficient as soource material of Mn because of the low Mn conteut (13.5%) aud complicated composition material The dust from Bag Filter of AOD Process is m mainly made up of $0.2~2\mu\textrm{m}$ $Mn_3O_4$ (Hausmatmite) particle in spherical shape and the Mn content is 63.1%. The dust from Cooler of AOD Process is mainly made up of coarse $Ca(OH)_2$ Mn, $Fe_yO_2$ $SiO_2$ and fine $Mn_3O_1$.

Detailed Deterioration Diagnosis and Analysis of Site Environment for the Taean Dongmunri Maaesamjonbulipsang (Rock-carved Standing Triad Buddha Statue), Korea (태안 동문리 마애삼존불입상의 정밀 훼손도 진단과 위치환경 분석)

  • This study focus on the surface deterioration diagnosis based on the material characteristics of Taean Dongmunri Maaesamjonbulipsang(rock-carved standing triad Buddha Statue) and the weathering environment analysis. Rock materials of the triad Buddha is coarse-grained biotite granite which is composed mainly of quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, biotite and muscovite. The triad Buddha was serious surface irregularity(13.5%), exfoliation(12.3%) and discoloration(46.6%), and the physical characteristics using ultrasonic velocity appeared fourth grade (0.59, highly weathered). Korean style wooden shelter of the triad Buddha(closed type) maintained high humidity environment (daily mean; 86.6%) than exterior environment, and appeared the possibility of deterioration by freezing-thawing because the temperature showed below zero temperatures in winter. The shelter was changed from closed-type to open-type to relieve the moisture problem recently. But the moisture problem is yet to be solved because surface water flowing along northern wayside is flowed into triad Buddha. Therefore, environmental control will need to stop inflow of water into triad Buddha.

High-Resolution Seismic Characteristics of the Holocene Mud Deposits in the Southeast Innershelf, Korea (한국 남동 내대륙붕해역의 홀로세 뻘질 퇴적층의 고해상도 탄성파 특성)

  • The Holocene mud deposits in the southeastern innershelf of the Korean Peninsula were studied using the shallow seismic reflection profiles coupled with sediment sampling. The Holocene mud deposits are developed as a belt in the innershelf area from the mouth of the Nakdong River to off Pohang along the coastline. The surficial sediments in the study area gradually become finer and well sorted from south to north. The seismic facies in the Holocene sequence change northward from parallel reflectors in the mouth of the Nakdong River and northeastward prograding reflectors in the southern part off Ulsan to transparent layer in the nearshore off Ulsan to Pohang. The regional difference of seismic facies indicates that the Holocene sediment characters are varied with localities. By combining the surficial sediments properties with seismic facies patterns, the suspended sediments mostly supplied from the Nakdong River may be transported northward along the shore by the north-flowing Tsushima warm current. The Holocene mud sequence overlying the ravinement surface which is produced by erosion of underlying sediments during a rapid transgression can be interpreted as the highstand system tracts probably formed during the highstand of sea level similar to the present-day sea level.

Evaluation on the Behavior of Slip Critical Joints with TS High Strength Bolts Subjected to a Size of Bolt Holes (볼트 구멍 크기에 따른 TS 고력볼트 접합부 거동 평가)

  • The oversized and slotted holes are frequently required for the built-up in construction sites. The foreign provisions specify the reduction of the slip load subjected to the size of bolt holes and the direction of load. There are no domestic building codes and researches on the bolt holes. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate a change of joint strength quantitatively according to the bolt-hole size and surface condition by means of experiment. This study was conducted to evaluate the slip load subjected to the size of bolt holes, and measured on a change of clamping force of high strength bolts during 168 and 800 hours to analyze the trend of relaxation after fastening bolts. Torque shear bolts defined on KS B 2819 was used for the specimen. Test results exhibit that the variation on the slip load of the others was below 10% by contrast with the standard hole and the highest rate of relaxation was 2.66% of the initial clamping force at the case of the long-slotted hole of 2.5D.
