  • The human genome project decoded 99% of human genes for $ 3 billion by 1990-2003. However, as many studies on genes have progressed, it has become clear that there are many cases where diseases occur without structural alteration of genes. The latest study, Epigenetics, has come up with the answer to this problem. The famine that hit Jeju until 1670-1795, the ban on the exclusion of Jeju Island to the outside 200 years of suffering, and in 1948, one third of the citizens were killed by the 4.3 incident generate Epigenetic. It has been shown in the world history science that starving-stress can be manifested as obesity and disease in progeny due to hereditary phenomena. 5G-based healthcare IoT technology can be used for the treatment of obesity by enabling Epigenetic analysis of this phenomenon.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish and apply a public transport valuation system to form required policy for institutionalization. Over the past six years, Jeju has seen a steady increase in the number of cars owned by its population. Also, as the number of tourists has changed from group to individual tourists, the rate of rental car use has increased rapidly. As a result, road congestion in Jeju city is becoming as crowded as Seoul., Jeju Island is said to have created a foundation for faster, more convenient, and cheaper use of transportation through the reorganization of the public transportation system in August 2017. This is also reflected in the Public Transportation Value Assessment. Jeju residents were in favor of strengthening public transportation priority policy. In addition, public transport valuations are highly valued in the order of public transportation fares, public transportation stability, public transportation policies for the common people, public transportation policies for the vulnerable, public transportation policies for residents, environmentally-friendly policies, and public transportation to help ease traffic congestion. This is because public transportation has a wide range of values and should refine the factors that local governments use to evaluate policy. These methods need to be institutionalized and actively utilized through the establishment of a value assessment system for public transport.

  • The aims of this study concerning tourists travelling in the island of Jeju include: to identify and assess the promotional efforts for traditional Jeju cuisine; and to identify the impacts of those efforts on customers and tourists. The analyses revealed that continuous promotion efforts, along with changes in the cooking methods and the development of new menus, are needed for the items of traditional Jeju cuisine that are relatively unknown to tourists and that fail to satisfy customers. Customers seeking Jeju food reported high satisfaction with such items as grilled meat and fish, steamed meat and fish, and raw fish(hoe), so those cooking methods must also be continually improved. Promotional efforts had impacts on the satisfaction and revisit rates of customers while the recognizability of foods offered had impacts on all areas, including the satisfaction and revisit rates of customers as well as word-of-mouth advertising among them. There needs to be an experience-oriented or educational program that introduces customers to traditional Jeju cuisine. Since customers and tourists gain information on traditional Jeju cuisine from the recommendations and word-of-mouth advertising from the locals they meet on the island, traditional Jeju cuisine should also be advertised to the local residents. The commercial merchandising of Jeju culinary culture and making festivals based on it must, therefore, be preceded by studies on how to increase the locals' awareness of local traditional cuisine.

  • When introducing a new policy or technology, it is common for both opposing and approving opinions to exist. In particular, identifying factors that influence opposing opinions can be the first step to successfully introducing new policies or technologies. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the acceptability of tram, a new transportation mode, in urban areas of Jeju. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 326 Jeju residents and 104 tourists for eight days, and the surveyed data was analyzed for the main factors affecting acceptability using structural equation modeling (SEM). As a result, it was found that the higher the recognition of tram operation characteristics, the more positive the acceptability. In particular, while tram operation in downtown Jeju was evaluated positively from the perspective of the convenience of using public transportation and the urban environment, it was evaluated negatively from the perspective of traffic crashes, congestion, and pedestrian safety due to traffic conflicts. These results are expected to be used as a basis for establishing policies to successfully adopt trams in Jeju City in the future.

  • The aim of this study was to identify the significant factors for deciding yacht marina harbor location, and to use them for policy decision of a yacht marina project of local government. For this purpose, 2 top factors, 11 sub-factors and 50 specific factors were determined through a theoretical review and specialist interviews. This was followed by a questionnaire survey given to residents of Jeju and yacht tourists within the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province only. The results showed that marine safety is significant and the development must be made for local economic growth and by the participation of local residents.

  • Jeju has many out-of-town cultural areas owing to its low accessibility to concert halls. Based on data from Jeju in 2019, this study selected possible sites for concert halls and examined the location status of existing concert halls in Jeju by utilizing GIS analysis. As a result, directions on location selection are proposed for the western and eastern parts of Jeju, where accessibility to concert halls is relatively difficult. Considering the theory, prior research, and the regional characteristics of Jeju, the directions for location selection exclude residential areas and areas with little accessibility. They also list good points for accessibility within areas that have little of it, that are distant from administrative dong areas in Jeju-si and Seogwipo-si, that have friendly natural scenery, and that already have accessible public transportation. Accordingly, four places were proposed as possible areas for construction of a concert hall in 2020. This study is expected to contribute to cultural marketing that makes the Jeju area a Cultural Island.

  • Modernism is understood as a process of differentiation. Postmodernism or postmodernity, by contrast, involves de-differentiation. There is a breakdown in the distinctiveness of each of spheres of social activities. It is important to explain an examination of the relationships between the de-differentiation and a wide variety of contemporary tourism, expecially postmodern tourism. Also, de-differentiation between the tourism and the social spheres lead to the spatial reflection. Aim of this paper is to examine the processes of de-differentiation between the tourism and the social spheres, which comes out spatially in Jeju island. Especially, location of destinations is concentrated on the coastline in the period of modem tourism. On the contrary, the postmodern tourism shows that the location of destinations are wide spread diffusion its vertically and horizontally. It means that there are to appear a breakdown of distinctiveness between the conventional tourism destinations and the regional person's space.
