Clean-up of the Crude Oil Contaminated Marine Sediments Through Biocarrier-Mediated Bioaugmentation (생물담체 활용 생물접종에 의한 원유로 오염된 해양토양의 정화)

  • This study was carried out to develop an effective biocarrier-mediated bioaugmentation technology which will be useful for remediation of the crude oil-contaminated marine sediments. Enrichment of several microbial communities was made from several oil-polluted seashore sites and the two distinctively functional consortia have been successfully selected. These two consortia were grown together and used to manufacture the microbial agents for bioaugmentation of marine sediments polluted with crude oil. The most dominant species in the mixed culture was identified as Alcanivorax borkumensis based on pure culture and DGGE analysis. Bioaugmentation of oil-polluted marine sediments with the microbial agent MA-2 formulated using the mixed culture and biocarriers (activated carbon and minerals) was more effective, especially in combination with an oxygen producing (releasing) compound (ORC). Ninty percent of TPH was removed in the presence of ORC in 35 days while 74% in the absence of ORC. This indicated that the indigenous consortial degraders could be immobilized on the active carbon as a biocarrier to manufacture microbial agents and then effectively bioaugmented for remediation of the oil-polluted sediments.

  • Onion (Allium cepa L.) production in Korea has increased gradually over the past 15 years, placing second in food consumption survey with 20.6 g daily intake in 2006. Onions, used as an ingredient in many dishes and accepted by almost all traditions and cultures, have been reported to have a range of health benefits which include anticarcinogenic, antiasthmatic, antibiotic, and antioxidative effects. These effects may be attributable to a powerful flavonoid pigment-containing compounds, such as quercetin and alk(en)yl cysteine sulphoxides (ACSOs). Although antiplatelet and antithrombotic activities of onion have been confirmed by many of in vitro or animal studies, only a few human intervention studies have been examined. The majority of human studies identified that onion improves some cardiovascular markers such as lipid profile and platelet coagulant. With regard to antioxidative effects, somewhat positive effects are confirmed through strengthening the resistance of oxidative DNA damage in lymphocyte and urine, while most studies failed to find inhibitory effects on LDL oxidation. The discrepancies among studies might be ascribed to producing area, processing methods of onion, dosage, subject characteristics, study duration, and measurement methods. In this review, we focused on the preventive effect of cardiovascular disease through onion consumption in human intervention studies.

  • In this paper, the analyses of the stress disturibution and frequency characteristics of silicon microstructures for an accelerometer were performed using the general purpose finite element simulation program, ANSYS. From the analyses, we determined the parameter values of a new 6-beam piezoresistive accelerometer applicable to the accelerometer's specification in airbag system of automobile. Then, the mass paddle radius, beam length, beam width, and beam thickness of the designed accelerometer were$500{\mu}m$, $350{\mu}m$, $100{\mu}m$, and $5{\mu}m$, respectively and two different seismic masses with 0.4 mg and 0.8 mg were defined on the same sensor structure. The designed 6- beam accelerometers were fabricated on the selectively diffused (111)-oriented $n/n^{+}/n$ silicon substrates and the characteristics of the fabricated accelerometers were investigated. Then, we used a micromachining technique using porous silicon etching method for the formation of the micromechanical structure of the accelerometer.

Photo-Fenton Oxidation Treatment of Pilot Scale for the Decomposition of 1,4-dioxane Generated in a Polyester Manufacturing Process (폴리에스테르 중합 공정에서 발생되는 1,4-dioxane의 분해를 위한 파일럿 규모의 광펜톤산화처리)

  • In this research, a polyester manufacturing company (i.e. K Co.) in Gumi, South Korea was investigated regarding the release of high concentrations of 1,4-dioxane(about 600 mg/L) and whether treatment prior to release should occur to meet with the level of the regulation standard (e.g., 5 mg/L in 2011). The pilot-scale (reactor volume, 10 $m^3$) treatment system using Photo-Fenton Oxidation was able to remove approximately 90% of 1,4-dioxane under the conditions that concentrations of 2,800 ppm $H_2O_2$ and 1,400 ppm $FeSO_4$ were maintained along with 10 UV-C lamps (240 ${\mu}W/cm^2$) illuminated during aeration. However, the effluent concentration of 1,4-dioxane was still high at about 60 mg/L. Thus, further investigation is needed to see whether the bench scale (reactor volume, 8.9 L) of activated sludge could facilitate the decomposition of 1,4-dioxane. As a result, 1,4-dioxane in the effluent has been decreased as low as about 2~3 mg/L. Consequently, Photo-Fenton Oxidation coupled with activated sludge process can make it possible to efficiently decompose 1,4-dioxane to keep up with that of the regulation standard.

  • Recently, the opening of the world economy and regional ization of national demand endless endeavors and investments to upbring design-industry for regional economic development. Our domestic commodities, declined in price competitiveness against China and Southeast Asian nations, need construction of brand image of commodities and consumers' response through expanded concernments in marketing spheres. The design-industry is a important means to strengthen competitiveness of the domestic industry through discrimination of commodities and creativity of high added value. Design-industry has some problems in circumstances; commodity development and marketing are below the level in the sphere of manufacture industry yet and businessmen are unwilling to invest demanded for development of new design. Establishment of the personal foundation, useful for accumulating competent designers' experiences and technologies, can not pass limit. In addition, a system and a policy to protect design-industry have a problem in effectiveness. Concrete strategies to activate design industry which meets social and cultural circumstances of Daegu and Gyeongbuk region are to establish policy for construction of specialists' infra, systematization of study & development of design, common ownership of information on design, and expansion of design company. The business to upbring design in the region should be operated to develop competitive commodities which is helpful to the regional economy and to increase value of the regional enterprises' brand. In addition, foundation of design should be expanded personal, material, and informational infra through design-centered so that they are helpful to activate economy of Daegu and Gyeongbuk through making design reformational cluster.

Development of Ice Cream with Improved Microbiological Safety and Acceptable Organoleptic Quality Using Irradiation (감마선 이용 미생물학적 및 관능적 품질이 우수한 아이스크림의 개발)

  • To develop the manufacturing method of ice cream with microbiologically safe and proper sensory quality using irradiation for sensitive consumer, 3 different flavors, which were resistant to their flavors against irradiation, were selected and used for ice cream manufacturing to reduce the irradiation-induced off-flavor problem. The general composition was not different among treatments. Total aerobic bacteria were detected as 2.38, 1.23, 1.38, and 1.15 log CFU/g level in ice cream with control(no flavor added), spearmint, mint, and citrus flavor, respectively. No viable cells were observed by irradiation at 1 kGy except for the control. Sensory evaluation indicated that the irradiated ice cream with spearmint flavor at 1 kGy and citrus flavor at 3 kGy had higher overall acceptability. Therefore, a low dose irradiation (less than 3 kGy) with mint or citrus flavors may enhance the safety of ice cream with proper sensory quality for sensitive consumer.

  • 우리나라는 이제 그동안의 꾸준한 노력의 결과로 자동차 수출국으로 발돋움하고 있으며 이 분야 에서으 선진국과의 경쟁이 점점 치열해질 전망이다. 이러한 세계 시장에서의 경쟁 대열에서 탈 락되지 않기 위해서는 무엇보다도 제품 품질의 향상, 원가의 절감 등이 이루어져야 할 것이며 이 에 대한 노력을 게을리 해서는 안될 것이다. 한편 이와는 별도로 좀더 다른 각도에서 자동차 공업의 방향을 고찰할 필요가 있다. 즉 미래에도 계속해서 현재의 왕복동 내연기관이 자동차 구동용으로 사용될 것인가 하는 점이다. 엔진의 성능 향상, 연비의 감소, 엄격한 배기가스 규 제에의 대처 등에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있지만 기술개발에는 한계가 있으며 제품은 점점 복잡하게 되어 결국은 제품가격 및 A/S 비용이 상승되는 역효과를 나타낼 가능성이 높다. 이에 세계적인 자동차 제조회사에서는 오래전부터 새로운 방식의 미래형 자동차 engine 개발에 착수 하였으며 계속적인 연구를 진행하고 있다. 이러한 미래형 자동차 engine의 대표적인 것으로 gas turbine engine이 있다. 가스터어빈이라 하면 우선 항공기용의 jet engine을 생각하게 된다. 그 외에 발전용으로 가스터어빈은 이용되고 있으며 근래 다시 등장한 자동차용의turbocharger 역시 가스터어빈의 한 응용분야라고 할 수 있다. turbocharger의 경우는 내연기관의 출력향상을 주 목적으로 내연기관에 부착되어 이용되고 있는 반면에 gas turbine engine은 기존의 내연기관을 대체하여 자동차 구동용으로 이용되는 점에 그 차이가 있다. 아직은 실용화되징 않았지만 미래형 자동차 기관으로서의 이용가능성이 높은 gas turbine engine을 다음에 간략히 소개하고자 한다. 생산량과 하천수에 의한 생산량과의 비는 풍건물의 경우 0.6, 매물의 경우 0.5였으며 감자의 경우는 0.2이하였다. 4. 염분용수 관개구와 하천수 관개구의 모든작물에서 풍건물 생산량과 축배량 사이에는 강한 직선적인 관계를 보였다. 보리, 감자의 작물 생산량과 축배량사이에도 선형의 관계가 성립되었으나, 밀과 옥수수의 매물 생산량과 축배량사이에는 곡선적인 관계를 나타내었다..18cm)에 필적되는 연평균 4.16cm로 나타났다. 5. 전체 시험구로부터으 연평균 토양유실량은 Sharpsburg 점질양토에 대한 S.C.S 한계허용치 10ton/ha/year 이내로 나타났다. 비처리구에서의 토양유실량은 평균 2.56ton/ha/year로 높게 나타난 반면 3개의 서로 다른 추리구인 비수구, 초생수로구 및 Bromegrass구에서는 각각 0.152, 0.192 및 0.290ton/ha/year로 낮은 결과를 가져왔다. 6. 평균 침전량에 대한 L.S.D. 검정 걸과 전시험구중 비처리구가 고도의 유의차를 나타낸 반면 비수구, 초생수로구 및 Bromegrass 목초구 간에는 아무런 유의차가 인정되지 않았다. 7. 농지보전 처리구인 배수구와 초생수로구는 비처리구에 비해 낮은 침두 유출량과 낮은 토양유실량을 나타내었다.구보다 14% 절감되는 것으로 나타났다.작용하는 것으로 사료된다.된다.정량 분석한 결과이다. 시편의 조성은 33.6 at% U, 66.4 at% O의 결과를 얻었다. 산화물 핵연료의 표면 관찰 및 정량 분석 시험시 시편 표면을 전도성 물질로 증착시키지 않고, Silver Paint 에 시편을 접착하는 방법으로도 만족한 시험 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.째, 회복기 중에 일어나는 입자들의 유입은 자기폭풍의 지속시간을 연장시키는 경향을 보이며 큰

  • Although the electrophoretic deposition method has the advantage of simple processing procedure, less fabrication facilities, and easier control for deposition thickness and wire length, providing economical and technical merits, it also has the disadvantages of cracking and porosity phenomena, requiring an improved processing method for higher particle density and constant particle orientation. we have developed an optimization method to increase the particle density and to unify its orientation, and have performed a study to overcome the cracking and porosity problems in the fabricated superconductor. In order to improve the surface uniformity and the conduction properties of the fabricated YBCO thick films, a system that applies alternate voltage vertically has been developed for the first time and applied to the electrophoretic deposition process. The applied alternate electric field caused a force to be exerted on each YBCO particle and resulted in a rotation of the particle in the direction of applied electric field, accomplishing a uniform particle orientation. We name this process as the shaky-aligned electrophoretic deposition method. For commercial utilization and efficiency, in this dissertation, alternating voltage of 60 Hz and 25 ∼ 120 V/cm was proposed to apply it as a subsidiary source for shaky-flow deposition so that the fabricated thin film showed uniform surface morphology with less voids and cracks and Tc,zero of 90 K and the critical current density of 3419 A/$cm^2$.

Organic-inorganic Nanocomposite Adhesive with Improved Barrier Property to Water Vapor for Backsheets of Photovoltaic Modules (태양광모듈용 저가형 백시트 제조를 위한 고수분차단성 유무기 나노복합형 접착제)

  • Photovoltaic (PV) modules are environmentally energy conversion devices to generate electricity via photovoltaic effect of semiconductors from solar energy. One of key elements in PV modules is "Backsheet," a multilayered barrier film, which determines their lifetime and energy conversion efficiency. The representative Backsheet is composed of chemically resistant poly(vinyl fluoride) (PVF) and cheap poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films used as core and skin materials, respectively. PVF film is too expensive to satisfy the market requirements to Backsheet materials with production cost as low as possible. The promising alternatives to PVF-based Backsheet are hydrocarbon Backsheets employing semi-crystalline PET films instead of PVF film. It is, however, necessary to provide improved barrier property to water vapor to the PET films, since PET films are suffering from hydrolytic decomposition. In this study, a polyurethane adhesive with reduced water vapor permeation behavior is developed via a homogeneous distribution of hydrophobic silica nanoparticles. The modified adhesive is expected to retard the hydrolysis of PET films located in the core and inner skin. To clarify the efficacy of the proposed concept, the mechanical properties and electrochemical PV performances of the Backsheet are compared with those of a Backsheet employing the polyurethane adhesive without the silica nanoparticles, after the exposure under standard temperature and humidity conditions.

Anti-oxidative Capacity of Mulberry Leaf and its Tea (뽕잎 및 뽕잎차의 항산화능)

  • The importance of genetic resources conservation and utilization for economy and the health and well-being of societies in general is recognized all over the world. Mulberry genetic resources contain many natural components and are considerable resource for functional sericulture. We carried out antioxidative capacity analysis of mulberry leaves that were collected from Korea and some of foreign countries and preserved in the greenhouse. The mean antioxidant capacity of 34 accessions was 892.30nmol(ascorbic acid equivalent). Also we evaluated fruity characteristics and selected 4 accessions as breeding resources for the production of mulberry fruit. To investigate the effect of tea on antioxidative capacity, five kinds of tea(coffee mix, green tea added brown rice, mulberry leaf tea, Polygonatum odoratum tea and black tea added lemon) were selected and analyzed. Their's antioxidative capacity were 2,531.01nmol, 1,867.42nmol, 1,053.72nmol, 292.71nmol and 188.91nmol, respectively. The antioxidative capacity of drinking water soaked with mulberry leaf showed 891.96nmol.
