Abstract Full search block-matching algorithm (FBMA) was shown to be able to produce the best motion compensated images among various motion estimation algorithms. However, huge computational load inhibits its applicability in real applications. A new motion estimation algorithm with lower computational complexity and good image quality when compared to the FBMA will be presented in this paper. In the proposed method, The appropriate search area can be predicted by using the temporal correlation between neighbouring blocks. For motion estimation of the current block, it is the method changing adjustably search area of current block by using motion and search area size of the neighbouring block. After deciding search area size of the current block with this predicted value, we estimate motion vector that matching current block like the FBMA for every pixel in this area. By the computer simulation the computation amount of the proposed method can be greatly decreased about 50% than that of the FBMA and the good result of the PSNR can be attained.

  • In this paper, a genetic algorithm-based optimization technique for stereo matching is proposed. Stereo matching is an essential process to recover three-dimensional structure of objects. The proposed two-dimensional chromosomes consist fo disparity values. The cost function of each chromosome is composed of the intensity-difference between two images and smoothness of disparity. The crossover and mutation operators in the two-dimensional chromosomes are described. The operations are affected by the disparities of neighbor pixels. The knowledge-augmented operators are shown to result in rapid convergence and stable result. The genetic algorithm for stereo matching is tested on synthetic and natural images. Experimental results of various images show that the proposed algorithm has good performance even if the images have too dense or sparse feature points. severe noise, and repeating pattern.

  • In this study, we developed the protopype of QA phantom for image QA including an additional component for image based radiation treatment system. The new phantom considered two main parts: Image quality and fusion accuracy. Image quality part included for daily CT number linearity and spatial resolution, and fusion accuracy part designed to simulate a simple translation-rotation setting. The CT scans of the phantom obtained from conventional CT, MVCT of Tomotherapy unit, and both image sets were satisfied the recommendation of spatial resolution. This phantom was simple and efficient for daily imaging QA, and it is important to provide a new concept of verification of image registration.

  • Most algorithms in computer vision and digital photogrammetry assume that digital stereo pairs are registered in epipolar geometry. But, an aerial stereo pair is not likely to be in epiplar geometry since the attitude of the camera at the instant of exposure is different at every exposure station. In this paper, stereo digital imagery is obtained from aerial stereo pair by scanner. Then procesure to resample the digital imagery to epipolar geometry using exterior orientation elements after absolute orientation is described. As a result, a stereo imagery in epipolar geometry is produced from stereo digital imagery. Epipolar imagery in this paper is applied to the image matching method by digital image correlation technique. Then, a digital elevation model is produced from the result of image matching. The digital elevation model in this paper is compared to the other digital elevation model produced by analytical plotter. As a result, an economical method to generate digital elevation model is presented.

  • This paper proposes 3D facial modeling system without using 3D scanner and camera or expensive software. This system enables efficient 3D facial modeling to cost reduction and effort saving for natural facial modeling. It detects edges of component of face using edge detection based on fuzzy logic from any 2D image of front face. It was mapped fitting position with 3D standard face model by detected edge more correctly. Also this system generates 3D face model more easily through floating and flexible control and texture mapping after fitting that connection of control point on detected edge from 2D image and mesh of 3D standard face model.

  • In the fast block matching algorithm. search patterns of different shapes or sizes and the distribution of motion vectors have a large impact on both the searching speed and the image qualify. In this paper, we propose a new fast block matching algorithm using the flat-hexagon search pattern that ate solved disadvantages of the diamond pattern search algorithm(DS) and the hexagon-based search algorithm(HEXBS). Our proposed algorithm finds mainly the motion vectors that not close to the center of search window using the flat-hexagon search pattern. Through experiments, compared with the DS and HEXBS, the proposed f)at-hexagon search algorithm(FHS) improves about $0.4{\sim}21.3%$ in terms of average number of search point per motion vector estimation and improves about $0.009{\sim}0.531dB$ in terms of PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio).

  • Satellite imagery occurs geometric and radiometric errors due to external environmental factors at the acquired time, which in turn causes false-alarm in change detection. These errors should be eliminated by geometric and radiometric corrections. In this study, we propose a methodology that automatically and simultaneously performs geometric and radiometric corrections by using the SURF (Speeded-Up Robust Feature) algorithm and the mask filter. The MPs (Matching Points), which show invariant properties between multi-temporal imagery, extracted through the SURF algorithm are used for automatic geometric correction. Using the properties of the extracted MPs, PIFs (Pseudo Invariant Features) used for relative radiometric correction are selected. Subsequently, secondary PIFs are extracted by generated mask filters around the selected PIFs. After performing automatic using the extracted MPs, we could confirm that geometric and radiometric errors are eliminated as the result of performing the relative radiometric correction using PIFs in geo-rectified images.

  • UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are widely used for maintenance and monitoring of facilities. It is necessary to acquire a high-resolution image for evaluating the appearance state of the facility in safety inspection. In addition, it is essential to acquire the video data in order to acquire data over a wide area rapidly. In general, since video data does not include position information, it is difficult to analyze the actual size of the inspection object quantitatively. In this study, we evaluated the utilization of 3D point cloud data of bridges using a matching between video frames and reference photos. The drones were used to acquire video and photographs. And exterior orientations of the video frames were generated through feature point matching with reference photos. Experimental results showed that the accuracy of the video frame data is similar to that of the reference photos. Furthermore, the point cloud data generated by using video frames represented the shape and size of bridges with usable accuracy. If the stability of the product is verified through the matching test of various conditions in the future, it is expected that the video-based facility modeling and inspection will be effectively conducted.

  • Most studies using drone is confined utilization on the ground and regulation. The drone in the water is rarely used in hydrographic surveying because of the limit of flight time and image matching. This paper is the basic research for drone hydrographic photogrammetry. The accuracy of hydrographic photogrammetry, using buoys for water reference point, was evaluated. The accuracy is influenced by the accuracy of the water reference points like the photogrammetry. The position of water reference points set up on water, keep on changing due to various environmental factors such as wind speed and water velocity. The position continuously changed of the water reference points were measured 3 times using Total Station and VRS. Experiments were conducted at two reservoirs in Gimhae City, and the accuracy of the manual image matching using the water reference points is 40 cm and 80 cm. Allowable accuracy of the ocean boundary survey is ${\pm}2m$, the results of this study are fully available. The maximum position error of the water reference point for ensuring accuracy within ${\pm}2m$ is 1.8 m.

  • The purpose of this paper is to extract fast DEM (Digital Elevation Model) using satellite images. DEM extraction consists of three parts. First part is the modeling of satellite position and attitude, second part is the matching of two images to find corresponding points of them and third part is to calculate the elevation of each point by using the results of the first and second part. The position and attitude modeling of satellite is processed by using GCPs. A area based matching method is used to find corresponding points between the stereo satellite images. The elevation of each point is calculated using the exterior orientation parameters obtained from modeling and conjugate points from matching. In the DEM generation system, matching procedure holds most of a processing time, therefore to reduce the time for matching, a new fast matching algorithm using gradient correlation and fast similarity measure calculation method is proposed. In this paper, the SPOT satellite images, level 1A 6000$\times$6000 panchromatic images are used to extract DEM. The experiment result shows the possibility of fast DEM extraction with the satellite images.
