  • This study applied aquatic and land-based exercises to breast cancer patients for comparative analysis and elucidation of their effects on the rehabilitation of cancer patients. Participants included 40 breast cancer patients who were divided into two groups: 20 participants in the experimental group using aquatic exercise and 20 participants in the control group using land-based exercise. After the addition of aquatic or land-based exercises five times per week for eight weeks, differences in each group's shoulder and pulmonary functions as well as their quality of life were compared and analyzed. The results showed a statistically significant difference (p<.001) for shoulder dysfunction, with the experimental group showing a greater improvement than the comparison group. Statistically significant differences (p<.05 and p<.001, respectively) were also observed for forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), with the experimental group showing greater improvements. Finally, a statistically significant difference (p<.001) was observed for change in the quality of life, with greater improvements in the experimental group than in the control group. The results of further research in this field are expected to indicate the most efficient method for the recovery and management of physical, psychological, and social health impacts of breast cancer on patients. Furthermore, the research aims to provide fundamental resources for breast cancer rehabilitation in South Korea by conducting studies on patients with lung cancer or colorectal cancer and the application of various aquatic exercise methods.

  • This study explored how the family-friendly culture of married employees is related to family strength and verified the mediating effects of work-life balance in such a relationship. The study included 213 married employees aged from their 20s to their 60s. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0, and the Baron and Kenny (1986) method was used to perform descriptive statistics, difference verification, regression analysis, and mediation analysis. The results of the analysis were as follows. First, the differences between the general characteristics of married employees and family strength were analyzed. Among the general characteristics, married employees in their 60s were found to have a higher level of family strength compared with other married employees in their 40s-50s and 20s-30s. Furthermore, married employees with higher education (higher than college or graduate school education), with supporters, with a household income of more than 6.01 million KRW, and with positions higher than middle management were found to have higher levels of family strength compared with their counterparts in each case. Second, hierarchical regression was performed to analyze the factors affecting family strength; the younger the age, the higher the level of family-friendly culture and work-life balance, and the higher the level of family strength of married employees. Third, according to Baron and Kenny's(1986) mediation analysis, the balance between work and life had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between a family-friendly culture and family strength. Therefore, a family-friendly culture and work-life balance were verified to be important factors that can serve as alternatives for improving the family strength of married employees.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors influencing financial preparedness for retirement of the middle-aged North Korean defectors (resettling in South Korea) using concepts of 'financial literacy' and 'financial inclusion'. Those questioned were 100 North Korean defectors of 40-60 years-old residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province selected by convenience sampling, one of the non-probability sampling. Path analysis is used as a main analysis method. The results of the study show a direct effect in which increased financial literacy resulted in better financial preparedness for retirement among middle-aged North Korean defectors at a statistically significant level. In addition, by boost-trapping method, financial inclusion has its mediating effect on the relationship between financial literacy and financial preparedness for retirement. However, this study shows that influence of financial literacy on financial preparedness for retirement is different across economic statues. The mediating effect of financial inclusion on the relationship between financial literacy and financial preparedness is statistically significant only for the low-income group. Meanwhile, for the above average income group, financial literacy has a direct effect on the financial preparedness after retirement at a statistically significant level. Based on these results, this study suggests practical and policy implementation such as necessity of customized financial education suited to their economic status, development of financial instruments for retirement, introduction of financial social workers to prepare stable old age of North Korean defectors.

When women, when they were older at start up, when they were graduate the university or higher, increased their risk of leaving their businesses. Third, in the characteristic of their work, the type of job and job satisfaction were found to affect to job desertion. When people are engaged in accommodation and food business rather than agriculture and forestry fishery, when the satisfaction of the work is lower, the risk was high. Based on these conlusions, the following implications are suggested. First, it is necessary to establish a support strategy for female middle-aged and old self-employed and older workers who start their own business after their 60s. Second, it is necessary to support them to enter into various fields by utilizing their own aptitude and experience rather than establishing them in industries with low entry barriers. Third, it is necessary to develop policies to help improve job satisfaction in the working environment. In particular, it is necessary to ensure that high educated self-employed workers are satisfied with various compensations by self-employed.
