Performance Analysis of LDPC code with Channel Estimation in Underwater Communication (수중통신 채널에서 채널 추정 오차에 따른 LDPC 부호 성능분석)

  • Underwater acoustic(UWA) communication has multipath error because of reflection by sea-level and sea-bottom. The multipath of UWA channel causes signal distortion and error floor. In this paper, we proposed the compensation method of multipath effect using the impulse response of the UWA channel and then analysis the performance of channel coding such as LDPC code, concatenate code. Also we analysed the time-delay errors and estimated amplitude errors of estimated channel information and its affection on the performance. As shown in simulation results, the performance of proposed compensation method is better than the performance of conventional method.

  • On an automated business document processing system maintaining financial data, errors on query based retrieval of numbers are critical to overall performance and usability of the system. Automatic spelling correction methods have been emerged and have played important role in development of information retrieval system. However scope of the methods was limited to the symbols, for example alphabetic letter strings, which can be reserved in the form of trainable templates or custom dictionary. On the other hand, numbers, a sequence of digits, are not the objects that can be reserved into a dictionary but a pure markov sequence. In this paper we proposed a new OCR model for spelling correction for numbers using the multiple streams and the context based correction on top of probabilistic information retrieval framework. We implemented the proposed error correction model as a sub-module and integrated into an existing automated invoice document processing system. We also presented the comparative test results that indicated significant enhancement of overall precision of the system by our model.

  • 이중 이진 (double binary) 터보 디코더는 오류 정정 코드 중 하나로써, 높은 오류 정정 성능으로 인해 IEEE 802.16 표준 (WiMAX)에서 사용되고 있다. Maximum ${\alpha}$ posteriori probability (MAP) 디코딩 블록은 이중 이진 터보 디코더의 가장 핵심적인 블록으로, 본 논문은 이를 구현하기 위한 알고리즘 중 하나인 improved Max-Log-MAP 알고리즘에 대한 효율적인 하드웨어 구조를 제안한다. 제안하는 하드웨어 구조는 기존의 하드웨어 구조와 비교하였을 때, 오류 정정 성능은 동일만 반면, 구떤 복잡도는 감소한다. 0.13um 공정에서 입력 비트폭을 8비트로 가정하고 시뮬레이션 한 결과, 속도와 칩 면적, 그리고 소비전력 측면에서 각각 8.92%, 1845%, 그리고 29.93%의 향상을 보인다. 제안하는 구조를 WIMAX 설계에 적용하여 성능 개선을 이끌어낼 수 있다.

Performance of Concatenated Reed-Solomon and Convolutional Codes for Digital Modems in HF Data Communications (HF 데이터 통신에서 디지털 모뎀을 위한 RS 및 컨볼루션 부호의 연접 부호 성능)

  • In this paper, we propose an improved error correction code in order to improve the performance of digital modems for HF data communications and verify the performance of the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme employs outer Reed-Solomon codes concatenated with inner convolutional codes. Numerical results show that the proposed system significantly improves the bit error rate performance compared to the conventional PACTOR-III modems. Hence, the proposed system can improve the bandwidth efficiency of digital modems for HF data communications.

Soft Decision Detection Method for Turbo-coded STBC Using High-order Modulation Schemes (고차원 변조 방식에서의 터보 부호화된 시공간 블록 부호 기술을 위한 최적의 연판정 검출 방법)

  • Forward error correction (FEC) coding schemes using iterative soft decision detection (SDD) information are mandatory in most of the next generation wireless communication system, in order to combat inevitable channel imparirnents. At the same time, space-time block coding (STBC) schemes are used for the diversity gain. Therefore, SDD information has to be fed into FEC decoder. In this paper, we propose efficient SDD methods for turbo-coded STBC system using high order modulation such as QAM. We present simulation results of various SDD schemes for turbo-coded STBC systems, and show that the proposed methods can provide almost approximating performance to maximum likelihood detection with much less computational load.

  • An adaptive non-uniform quantization scheme is proposed for soft-decision error correction in NAND flash memory. Even though the conventional maximizing mutual information (MMI) quantizer shows the optimal post-FEC (forward error correction) bit error rate (BER) performance, this quantization scheme demands heavy computational overheads due to the exhaustive search to find the optimal parameter values. The proposed quantization scheme has a simple structure that is constructed by only six parameters, and the optimal values of them are found by maximizing the mutual information between the input and the output symbols. It is demonstrated that the proposed quantization scheme improves the BER performance of soft-decision decoding with only small computational overheads.

Analytical Study of the Fire Resistance for Beams Consisting of Fire Resistant Steels with a Both Fixed Boundary Conditions (양단 고정단인 건축용 내화강재 적용 보부재의 해석적 내화성능 연구)

  • The fire resistance of a statistically indeterminate beam made of fire resistant steel was analyzed using the mechanical and thermal databases and compared with that of an indeterminate beam constructed of ordinary structural steel to not only determine the fire resistance performance of a statistically indeterminate beam itself, but also to determine if it is stable to test the fire resistance performance with a determinate beam built with ordinary structural steel instead of an indeterminate beam made from fire resistant steels. The results showed that the fire resistance of an indeterminate beam consisting of fire resistant steels is better than that of a determinate beam made of SS 400 and if the length of the beam built with FR 490 is longer, the displacement of the beam is higher. In addition, the fire test with a determinate beam made of SS 400 is was more conservative than that of an indeterminate beam made of FR 490 in the range of the same length. Therefore, another measure should be considered if beams built with FR 490 are longer than thos of SS 400.

  • 지난 호에는 부정적인 언론사 오보의 경우에 명예훼손의 판단기준은 어떠하며 피해자들에게 어떤 권리와 절차가 있는지를 살펴보았다. 요약하면 공익적이지 못한 보도(진실 여부와 상관없이), 공익적이지만 진실하지 못한 보도, 공익적이지만 언론의 주의의무(상당성)를 다하지 못한 보도는 손해배상책임을 지는 불법적 보도이며, 손해배상 정정보도 등 보도로 인한 피해 구제를 법원보다 간편하고 신속하게 받을 수 있는 기관으로 언론중재위원회(이하 중재위)가 있다는 것이다. 이번 호에는 이어서 포털 뉴스 및 근거 없는 게시글에 대해서 대응하는 방법과 최근에 나온 판례에 대해 설명하고자 한다.

  • With the advent of future mobile communication systems, the wireless transmission of the huge amount of multimedia data over the error-prone multipath fading channel has to overcome the inherent sensitivity to channel errors. To alleviate the effect of the channel errors, hosts of techniques based on the forward error correction(FEC) has been proposed at the cost of overhead rate. Among the FEC techniques, turbo code, whose performance has been shown to be very close to the Shannon limit, can be classified as a block-based error correction code. In this paper, considering the variable packet size of the multimedia data, we analyzed turbo codes employing the variable-sized interleaver. The effect of the various parameters on the BER performance is analyzed. We show that the turbo codes can be used as efficient error correction codes of multimedia data.
