  • The 1995 Kobe earthquake caused a massive damage to the Port of Kobe. Therefore, it was pointed out that it was impossible to design port structures for Level II (Mw 6.5) earthquakes with quasi-static analysis and Allowable Stress Design methods. In Japan and the United States, where earthquakes are frequent, the most advanced design standards for port facilities are introduced and applied, and the existing seismic design standards have been converted to performance-based design. Since 1999, the Korean Port Seismic Design Act has established a definition of necessary facilities and seismic grades through research on facilities that require seismic design and their seismic grades. It has also established a performance-based seismic design method based on experimental verification. In the performance-based seismic design method of the breakwater proposed in this study, the acceleration time history on the surface of the original ground was subjected to a fast Fourier transform, followed by a filter processing that corrected the frequency characteristics corresponding to the maximum allowable displacement with respect to performance level of the breakwater and the filtered spectrum. The horizontal seismic coefficient for the equivalent static analysis considering the displacement was calculated by inversely transforming (i.e., subjected to an inverse fast Fourier transform) into the acceleration time history and obtaining the maximum acceleration value. In addition, experiments and numerical analysis were performed to verify the performance-based seismic design method of breakwaters suitable for domestic earthquake levels.

  • There is great requirement on the TEM specimen preparation method with particle size selectivity as a prerequisite for the quantitative structure analysis on the materials such as gibbsite powder, which generally forms a large agglomerate and shows a variation of transition process depending on their sizes. In this experiment, we made an attempt to give a methodology for the TEM specimen preparation of powder with the size selectivity. After mixing 1 wt% gibbsite powder with ethanol solvent, gibbsite suspension was prepared by application of ball-milling and ultrasonification with addition of 0.25 vol% dispersion agent, Darvan C, which was diluted into distilled water by the ratio 1:19. Appling the static sedimentation method to gibbsite suspension after estimation of the sedimentation time by the measurement of accumulative concentration variation, we acquired TEM specimens with well-dispersed and size selected gibbsite particles in nm scale. Overall picture of each sample was taken by SEM and morphology of each dispersed particle was imaged by TEM. Raw and processed gibbsite powders were also examined by XRD to investigate whether they were suffered from phase change during the process or not.

  • This paper aims to aid a practical evaluation for screening out the design proposais under applying the IRDS system, which is developed a computer aided industrial design system as a computer application system. In this study, the author adopted 3 evaluation methods with criteria which have quantitative and qualitative attributes : the Intuitive Evaluation Methods(X), the Accumulative Evaluation Method(Y), the Benchmarking Evaluation Methods(Z). The results show that the 3 Methods have reciprocal relationships under reliability(r=0.0001). In analysis on the properties of the evaluation methods, the Evaluation Method (X) shows rapidity especially, the Evaluation Method (Y); relativity, the Evaluation Method(Z); importance respectively. The correlation analysis between the evaluation methods makes the null hypothesis denying, then we could adapt the research hypothesis. Therefore the correlation between them has positive relationship, and it shows thicker than the result of the 1st study.

  • Script viruses are easy to make a variation because they can be built easily and be spread in text format. Thus signature-based method has a limitation in detecting script viruses. In a consequence, many researches suggest simple heuristic methods, but high false-positive error is always being an obstacle. In order to overcome this problem, our previous study concentrated on analyzing data flow of codes and has low-false positive error, but still could not detect a polymorphic virus because polymorphic virus loads self body and changes it before make a descendent. We suggest a heuristic detection method which expands the detection range of previous method to include polymorphic script viruses. Expanded data flow analysis heuristic has an expanded grammar to detect Polymorphic copy Propagation. Finally, we will show the experimental result for the effectiveness of suggested method.

  • The TMN that appears to operate the various communication networks generally and efficiently is developed under the different platform environment such as the different hardware and the different operating system. One of the main problems is that all the agents of the TMN system must be duplicated and maintain the software and the data blocks that perform the identical function. Therefore, the multi-platform cannot be supported in the development of the TMN agent. In order to overcome these problems, the Farming methodology that is based on the Farmer model has been suggested. With the Farming methodology, the software and the data components which are duplicated and stored in each distributed object are saved in the platform independent class repository (PICR) by converting into the format of the independent componentware in the platform, so that the componentwares that are essential for the execution can be loaded and used statically or dynamically from PICR as described in the framework of each distributed object. The distributed TMN agent of the personal communication network is designed and developed by using the Farmer model.

  • In this paper, we propose three approaches to modeling Android malware. The first method involves human security experts for meticulously selecting feature sets. With the second approach, we choose 300 features with the highest importance among the top 99% features in terms of occurrence rate. The third approach is to combine multiple models and identify malware through weighted voting. In addition, we applied a novel method of eliminating permission information which used to be regarded as a critical factor for distinguishing malware. With our carefully generated feature sets and the weighted voting by the ensemble algorithm, we were able to reach the highest malware detection accuracy of 97.8%. We also verified that discarding the permission information lead to the improvement in terms of false positive and false negative rates.

  • Fruit thinning rate and characteristics were investigated for three years on seven promising pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) cultivars, which were treated by lime-sulfur as an eco-chemical thinning substance. Lime-sulfur was treated twice at the second and third days after full bloom by cultivar. Most of pear cultivars were significantly thinned by lime-sulfur compounds. Especially 'Whangkeumbae', 'Supergold' and 'Hanareum' exhibited high flower thinning rates, 41.5%, 40.1% and 39.9%, respectively. As weather conditions at the lime-sulfur treatment, insolation and cloud amount were correlated with flower thinning rate but not significant (r = 0.49 and r = -0.45, respectively). These results suggest that lime-sulfur is suitable for reducing labor force for flower thinning of Korean pears but flower thinning effects of lime-sulfur can vary depending on other factors such as environmental conditions. This information will provide useful data for low labor force cultivation of Korean pear cultivars.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine whether the 12-week Nordic walking can improve the physical function and arthritis pain of elderly women with osteoarthritis This study were divided into randomly assigned Nordic Walking Exercise Group (n=9) and Control Group (n=7) for 16 Elderly women diagnosed with Osteoarthritis (age: 73±3.79 year, height: 154.3±4.09 cm). The exercise group used Nordic sticks to carry out 30 minutes of Nordic walking exercise three times a week for 12 weeks, and the kinetic intensity was set at 40-60% of HRR. The control group maintained daily life for the same period. Body composition (weight, percentage body fat, skeletal muscle mass), muscular strength, Flexibility (muscular strength of upper and lower limbs, flexibility of upper and lower limbs), balance ability (static balance, dynamic balance) and pain level were measured as subordinate variables. These indicators were measured twice before and after the exercise program. The study shows that percentage body fat and skeletal muscle mass in the body composition function over 12 weeks of Nordic walking exercise have significant effects after the exercise than before (p=004)(p=.003), and it also shows significant interaction effects between the groups and timings(p=.018)(p=.005). In muscular strength, Flexibility factors, there were significant effects between the groups and timings in the upper limb muscular strength and the lower limb flexibility (p=.009)(p=.036), and a significant difference between the exercise group and the control group(p=.006) in the lower limb muscular strength. In addition, in the upper limb flexibility, there was a more significant difference after the exercise than before(p=.020). There were improvement effects after the exercise than before in the balance ability and the static balance(p=.016), but no difference in the dynamic balance(p>.05). In pain, there was a significant improvement after the exercise than before(p=.022), and a significant difference between the exercise group and the control group(p=.013). In conclusion, the 12-week Nordic walking exercise has positive effects on the body composition functions of the elderly women with Osteoarthritis, and has a positive effect on the improvement of upper limb muscular strength and lower limb flexibility in the health fitness factors. These effects are believed to have contributed effectively to the improvement of the level of pain by contributing to the improvement of physical and motor functions of the elderly women with Osteoarthritis. Therefore, it is considered that Nordic walking exercise, which enhances stability and balance of the patients with Osteoarthritis by using poles, is an effective exercise method for the improvement of the body and motor functions by lowering the pain of the joints and reducing the muscular strength and percentage body fat.

  • Purpose: Nuclear medicine manufacturers provide various softwares which shorten imaging time using their own image processing techniques such as UlatraSPECT, ASTONISH, Flash3D, Evolution, and nSPEED. Seoul National University Hospital has introduced softwares from Siemens and Philips, but it was still hard to understand algorithm difference between those two softwares. Thus, the purpose of this study was to figure out the difference of two softwares in planar images and research the possibility of application to images produced with high energy isotopes. Materials and Methods: First, a phantom study was performed to understand the difference of softwares in static studies. Various amounts of count were acquired and the images were analyzed quantitatively after application of PIXON, Siemens and ASTONISH, Philips, respectively. Then, we applied them to some applicable static studies and searched for merits and demerits. And also, they have been applied to images produced with high energy isotopes. Finally, A blind test was conducted by nuclear medicine doctors except phantom images. Results: There was nearly no difference between pre and post processing image with PIXON for FWHM test using capillary source whereas ASTONISH was improved. But, both of standard deviation(SD) and variance were decreased for PIXON while ASTONISH was highly increased. And in background variability comparison test using IEC phantom, PIXON has been decreased over all while ASTONISH has shown to be somewhat increased. Contrast ratio in each spheres has also been increased for both methods. For image scale, window width has been increased for 4~5 times after processing with PIXON while ASTONISH showed nearly no difference. After phantom test analysis, ASTONISH seemed to be applicable for some studies which needs quantitative analysis or high contrast, and PIXON seemed to be applicable for insufficient counts studies or long time studies. Conclusion: Quantitative values used for usual analysis were generally improved after application of the two softwares, however it seems that it's hard to maintain the consistency for all of nuclear medicine studies because result images can not be the same due to the difference of algorithm characteristic rather than the difference of gamma cameras. And also, it's hard to expect high image quality with the time shortening method such as whole body scan. But it will be possible to apply to static studies considering the algorithm characteristic or we can expect a change of image quality through application to high energy isotope images.

  • There are various factors affecting the fracture of NiTi rotary files. This study was performed to evaluate the effect of cross sectional area, pecking motion and pecking distance on the cyclic fatigue fracture of different NiTi files. Five different NiTi $files-Profile^{(R)}$ (Maillefer, Ballaigue, Switzerland), $ProTaper^{TM}$(Maillefer, Ballaigue, Switzerland), $K3^{(R)}$ (SybronEndo. Orange, CA) , Hero $642^{(R)}$ (Micro-mega, Besancon, France), Hero $Shaper^{(R)}$ (Micro-mega, Besancon, France)-were used. Each file was embedded in temporary resin, sectioned horizontally and observed with scanning electron microscope. The ratio of cross-sectional area to the circumscribed circle was calculated. Special device was fabricated to simulate the cyclic fatigue fracture of NiTi file in the curved canal,. On this device, NiTi files were rotated (300rpm) with different pecking distances (3 mm or 6 mm) and with different motions (static motion or dynamic pecking motion) . Time until fracture occurs was measured. The results demonstrated that cross-sectional area didn't have any effect on the time of file fracture. Among the files, $Profile^{(R)}$ took the longest time to be fractured. Between the pecking motions, dynamic motion took the longer time to be fractured than static motion. There was no significant difference between the pecking distances with dynamic motion, however with static motion, the longer time was taken at 3mm distance. In this study, we could suggest that dynamic pecking motion would lengthen the time for NiTi file to be fractured from cyclic fatigue.
