In this study, the GSP and in-house numerical codes have been used for analyses of the on-design, static off-design and dynamic off-design performances. Through the various missions including altitude, velocity, and power variations the static engine performance have been investigated. The dynamic engine performances based on these complicated variations have been also analyzed. Especially, the power, engine rpm and heat overload characteristics of the turbine have been estimated with the response time through the control of the throttle setting rather than the power setting. It could be applied to the FADEC system as an engine control device.

In a practical engineering, the equivalent static analysis (E.S.A) and the response spectrum analysis (R.S.A) are generally used for the seismic analysis. The base shears obtained from the E.S.A are invariable no matter how the principal axes of building structures are specified on an analysis program while those from the R.S.A are variable. Accordingly, the designed member size may be changed by how an engineer specify the principal axes of a structure when the R.S.A is used. Moreover, the base shears in the normal direction to the excitation axis are sometimes produced even when an engineer performs a response spectrum analysis in only one direction. This tendency makes the base shear, which is used to calculate the scale-up factor, relatively small. Therefore the scale-up factor becomes larger and it results in uneconomical member sizes. To overcome these disadvantages of the R.S.A, an alternative has been proposed in this study. Three types of example structures were adapted in this study, i.e. bi-direction symmetric structure, one-direction antisymmetric structure and bi-direction antisymmetric structure. The seismic analyses were performed by rotating the principal axes of the example structures with respect to the global coordinate system. The design member forces calculated with the scale-up factor used in the practice were compared with those obtained by using the scale-up factor proposed in this study. It can be seen from this study that the proposed method for the scale-up factor can provide reliable and economical results regardless of the orientation of the principal axes of the structures.

Dynamic elastoplastic LPM (lumped parameter mass) analyses are carried out in order to investigate the seismic resistant performance of a typical high-rise shear wall apartment subjected to several earthquakes. Three-dimensional nonlinear pushover analysis is adopted to estimate initial elastic stiffness, yielding strength and post-yielding stiffness of each story for the time history analysis of LPM shear model. For the hysteresis of each story, Clough and bilinear models are used with the input of four recorded earthquake ground motions of EI Centro 1940 NS, Taft 1952 EW, Hachinohe 1968 NS and Kobe 1995 NS, of which the amplitudes are scaled down to have the same maximum ground velocity of 12 kine. The result shows that yieldings take place in most storys of the building, i.e. the earthquake resistant capacity of this high-rise shear wall apartment is not sufficient at the event of earthquake M=5~6.

The seismic slope stability is most often evaluated by the pseudo-static limit analysis, in which the earthquake loading is simplified as static inertial loads acting in horizontal and/or vertical directions. The transient loading is represented by constant acceleration via the pseudostatic coefficients. The result of a pseudostatic analysis is governed by the selection of the value of the pseudostatic coefficient. However, selection of the value is very difficult and often done in an ad hoc manner without a sound physical reasoning. In addition, the maximum acceleration is commonly estimated from the design guideline, which cannot accurately estimate the dynamic response of a slope. There is a need to perform a 2D dynamic analysis to properly define the dynamic response characteristics. This paper develops a new hybrid pseudostatic method that links the modified one-dimensional seismic site response analysis and the pseudostatic algorithm. The modified site response analysis adjusts the density of the layers to simulate the change in mass and weight of the layers of the slope with depth. Multiple analyses were performed at various locations within the slope to estimate the change in seismic response of the slope. The calculated peak acceleration profiles with depth from the developed procedure were compared to those by the two-dimensional analyses. Comparisons show that the two methods result in remarkable match. The calculated profiles are used to perform pseudostatic analysis. The results show that use of peak or a fraction of acceleration at the surface can seriously underestimate or overestimate the factor of safety, and that the proposed procedure significantly enhances the reliability of a standard procedure.

The GF(Gust Factor) method is usually used as a method to evaluate equivalent static wind loads for general structures. The GF method is performed on the assumption that the shape of the equivalent static wind load profile is typically similar to that of mean wind loads. The shape of fluctuating wind loads could be quite different with that of the mean wind loads in case of large-span structures. So, the effect of higher modes as well as first mode must be considered to evaluate the wind loads. In this study, the ACS (Advanced Conditional Sampling) method is suggested to evaluate of equivalent static wind loads after investigating about GF and LRC method. The An method ran derive effective static wind loads by combining wind pressures and inertia forces of a structure chosen at a maximum load effect. The maximum load effect is assessed with the time history analysis using pressure data measured in wind tunnel tests. Equivalent static wind loads evaluated using ACS, GF, and LRC methods are compared to verify the effectiveness of ACS method.

Most components in the real world show nonlinear response. The nonlinearity may arise because of contact between the parts, nonlinear material, or large deformation of the components. Structural optimization considering nonlinearities is fairly expensive because sensitivity information is difficult to calculate. To overcome this difficulty, the equivalent load method was proposed for nonlinear response optimization. This method was originally developed for size and shape optimization. In this study, the equivalent load method is modified to perform topology optimization considering all kinds of nonlinearities. Equivalent load is defined as the load for linear analysis that generates the same response field as that for nonlinear analysis. A simple example demonstrates that results of the topology optimization using equivalent load are very similar to the numerical results. Nonlinear response topology optimization is performed with a practical example and the results are compared with those of conventional linear response topology optimization.

This paper describes dynamic characteristics of a power transmission tower consisting of lots of power lines and insulators. A numerical 3D modeling for the static, dynamic and buckling analyses of the power transmission tower is presented considering the case when the power lines are cut. Eigenvalue analysis indicates that the transmission tower shows different behavior comparing to usual structures governed by several low modes. The transmission tower is governed by lots of modes. It is verified that the transmission tower is structurally safe against the static wind and buckling loads. But the structural and buckling safety is not guaranteed when all power lines are cut, which comes to collapse the transmission tower. Further study is in need to overcome such case. Wind dynamic analysis shows that fluctuating wind loads increase the response of the tower.

Recently, significant progress has been made in performance-based engineering methods that rely mainly on nonlinear static seismic analysis procedures. The Capacity Spectrum Method (CSM) and the Displacement Coefficient Method (DCM) are the representative nonlinear static seismic analysis procedures. In order to evaluate the applicability of the procedures to the seismic evaluation and design process of new and existing structures, the accuracy of both CSM and DCM should be evaluated in advance. The accuracy of seismic responses by the nonlinear static procedures is evaluated in comparison with the shaking table test results for the structural wall specimen subjected to the far field and near field earthquakes. Also conducted are comparative studies where the shaking table test results are compared with those from nonlinear dynamic analysis procedures, i.e., Single-Degree-of-Freedom (SDOF), equivalent SDOF and Multi-Degree-of-Freedom (MDOF) systems.
