The current paper was conducted to unravel the influence of affect induction as a background emotion in the process of cognitive task to judge the degree of sequence in groups with or without anxiety symptoms. Four types of affect induction and two sequential task types were used as within-subject variables, and two types of college students groups classified under the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) as a between-subject variable were selected to determine reaction times involving sequential judgment among the lexical relevance information. DmDx5 was used to present a series of stimuli and elicit a response from subjects. Repeated measured ANOVA analyses revealed that reaction times and error rates were significantly larger with anxiety participants compared to the normal group regardless of affect and task types. Within-subject variable effects found that specific affect type (sorrow condition) and number-related task type showed a more rapid response compared to other affect types and magnitude-related task type, respectively. In sum, these findings confirmed the difference in tendency with reaction time and error rates that varied as a function of accompanying affect types as well as anxiety level and task types suggesting the that underlying background affect plays a major role in processing affect-cognitive association tasks.
Today an embodied agent generates a large amount of interest because of its vital role for human-human interactions and human-computer interactions in virtual world. A number of researchers have found that we can recognize and distinguish between various emotions expressed by an embodied agent. In addition many studies found that we respond to simulated emotions in a similar way to human emotion. This study investigates interpretation of mismatched emotions expressed by an embodied agent (e.g. a happy face with a sad voice); whether audio-visual channel integration occurs or one channel dominates when participants judge the emotion. The study employed a 4 (visual: happy, sad, warm, cold) $\times$ 4 (audio: happy, sad, warm, cold) within-subjects repeated measure design. The results suggest that people perceive emotions not depending on just one channel but depending on both channels. Additionally facial expression (happy face vs. sad face) makes a difference in influence of two channels; Audio channel has more influence in interpretation of emotions when facial expression is happy. People were able to feel other emotion which was not expressed by face or voice from mismatched emotional expressions, so there is a possibility that we may express various and delicate emotions with embodied agent by using only several kinds of emotions.
Behavioral studies of emotion recognition in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have yielded mixed results. Most of the studies focused on emotion recognition abilities with regard to ASD using stimuli with unisensory modality, making it difficult to determine difficulties in real life emotion perception in ASD. Herein, we review the recent behavioral and cognitive neuroscience studies on emotion recognition functions in ASD, including both unisensory and multisensory emotional information, to elucidate the possible difficulties in emotion recognition in ASD. In our study, we discovered that people with ASD have problems in the process of integrating emotional information during emotion recognition tasks. The following four points are discussed: (1) The restrictions of previous studies, (2) deficits in emotion recognition in ASD especially in recognizing multisensory information, (3) possible compensation mechanisms for emotion recognition in ASD, and (4) the possible roles of attention and language functions in emotion recognition in ASD. The compensatory mechanisms proposed herein for ASD with regard to emotion recognition abilities could contribute to a therapeutic approach for improving emotion recognition functions in ASD.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the history of and recent trends in science education research on emotion and explore the direction of future development. A comprehensive review of literature was conducted, and the results were organized according to research questions. Science education research on emotion began in the state of confusion because a number of concepts coexisted and overlapped in the concept of affect. More systematic approaches were then used when science-related attitudes were divided into the two categories of scientific attitudes and attitudes toward science. The research continued to study on positive and negative emotions relevant to science learning. However, the complex relationship between cognition and emotion and the limitation of the dichotomy dealing with emotions as external factors influencing student learning were revealed. By contrast, the recent research on epistemic emotions were based on the new perspective that scientific practices are accompanied with emotions and that cognition and emotion are integrated into the practices, influencing each other. Therefore, research should be carried out in ways that can help science educators understand a variety of emotions emerging in learning science through scientific practices and respond appropriately to even negative emotions of students.
Previous studies on opinion mining and sentiment analysis have supposed that the polarity and value of an emotional word is reversed when a negation word is attached. However, there are no quantitative studies on how much the polarity is changed when a negation word is following. Therefore, we measured the valence and arousal dimensions for Korean emotional words and their negations. Consequently, the polarity of valence and arousal was reversed on their intermediate level. Also, the value was reduced by about 30% to 50%. We propose this result as a guideline for processing negation words for studies on opinion mining and sentiment analysis.
Three experiments were conducted to explore the interaction of personal pronoun (e.g. 'I' and 'you') and emotional evaluation (e.g. positive and negative) using time-course (e.g. SOA 500-1000ms) and multi-task approaches (e.g. lexical decision task and primed naming task). In Experiment 1, Participants were presented personal pronoun as primes at SOA 1000ms and were asked to response emotional words which were differed in emotional attributes. The results showed that the interaction effects of personal pronoun and emotional words were found. In Experiment 2, Participants were presented personal pronoun as primes at SOA 1000ms and were asked to response emotional words which were differed in emotional attributes. The results showed that no effects were found. In Experiment 3, Participants were presented personal pronoun as primes at SOA 500ms and were asked to pronounce emotional words which were differed in emotional attributes. The results showed that the interaction of personal pronoun and emotional words were found. The results of 3 experiments were discussed from a point of view of dynamic processes of social cognition.
The purpose of this study was to carry out cognitive movement therapy program for children with affective and behavioral disorder based on neuro science, psychology, motor learning, muscle physiology, biomechanics, human motion analysis, movement control and to quantify characteristic of expression and gestures according to change of facial expression by emotional change. We could observe problematic expression of children with affective disorder, and could estimate the efficiency of application of movement therapy program by the face expression change of children with affective disorder. And it could be expected to accumulate data for early detection and therapy process of development disorder applying converged measurement and analytic method for human development by quantification of emotion and behavior therapy analysis, kinematic analysis. Therefore, the result of this study could be extendedly applied to the disabled, the elderly and the sick as well as children.
Physical activity has positive effects on cognitive functions by aging. However, it is rare to find research that have scientifically investigated the effects on the affective-cognitive function. Thus, this study aims to brain-scientifically research its effects of physical activity on the affective-cognitive function of adults in adolescence and senescence. As subjects of this study, a total of 60 males adults in D region were selected, and then equally divided into four groups of young exercise group(25~35y/o), young non-exercise group(26~35y/o), old exercise group(60~70y/o), and old non-exercise group(60~70y/o). As experiment tools, the EEG measuring equipment and International Affective Picture System(IAPS) were used. The experiment of this study used an affective-cognitive task where subjects pressed a button depending on emotional valence(positive, neutral, negative) shown in the pictures. During the task, EEG measured eight areas(Fp1, Fp2, Fz, C3, C4, Cz, T3, T4) out of brain areas in accordance with the international 10-20 electrode system, EEG was measured. For statistical analysis, a three-way ANOVA on $4(group){\times}3(stimulus){\times}8(area)$ was conducted. The results showed main effects of group in both reaction time and accuracy, and also in the latency of P3. And there was an interaction between group and stimulus the amplitude of P3. In conclusion, Physical activity has positive effects on the affective-cognitive function of people in adolescence and senescence.
Present study was investigated to measure the influence of expectancy on emotional information processing. For inducing an expectancy for emotional stimulus, participants conducted three same blocks in which negative face was presented for prime in 75% of total trials(Group1) or three same blocks in which positive face was presented in 75% of total trials(Group2). We compared the means of RTs of two blocks conducted after and before these induction blocks. Results exhibited that participants in Group 1 allocated more attention after expectancy induction. This indicate that in normal population, the top-down processing like expectancy can influence emotional processing pattern related to negative information.
The aim of this study was to identify the factors related to clinical practice stress in nursing college students. The participants comprised 160 students in a nursing college. Data collection was conducted from December 1, 2019 to December 15, 2019. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and a multiple regression analysis. The average score for clinical practice stress was 3.19 out of a maximum of 5. clinical practice stress had a statistically significant relationship with self-esteem(r=.22, p=.005), nursing professionalism(r=-.26, p=.001) and cognitive emotion control strategy(r=.38, p<.001). The factors affecting clinical practice stress were maladaptive cognitive emotion control strategy(β=.46, p<.001), nursing professionalism(β=-.20, <.001), grade(β=.20, p=.002), motivation for nursing choice(β=-.15, p=.019); the explanatory power of the model was 35.5%. Therefore, in order to reduce the stress on clinical practice, it is necessary to develop a program that can lower the maladaptive cognitive emotion control strategy along with improving the nursing professionalism in stress situations.
