  • The purpose of this study is to analyze information needs and information usage of academic information users. This study aims to identify more specific information needs through an analysis of the gap between undergraduate and graduate users. Interviews with 20 users of K and S University were conducted for this study. As the result of this study, we found that the information needs from undergraduate and graduate users are different. The undergraduate users were less satisfied (30%) with information results than the graduate (90%) users and types of their needed information were more diversified. Additionally, the study suggests that information services for undergraduate users should be developed more seriously because their information satisfaction was considerably lower even though they actively utilize information.

  • This study presents the findings from research on the Everyday Life Information Seeking (ELIS) behaviors of Korean government officials in their 50s. 500 survey respondents participated and the quantitative data were analyzed through Structural Equation Model having six key concepts such as personal information environment, information-seeking attitudes, online information attitudes, barriers to information seeking, retirement expectations, and library expectations. The findings showed the important relationships between expectations of the retirement and two constructs (personal information environment and information-seeking attitudes). This study can be used as a strategic implication for library practitioners to develop their library management process in accordance to the potential and powerful evolving user group in a future aged society.

  • This study investigated users' information seeking behaviors associated with their perceptions of uncertainty. For this study, the data was collected from an user group, who conducted information searches in the field of history, using the KERIS Edunet system and it was analyzed through the comparative analysis of the grounded theory. The results presented users' uncertainty in the following stages: the identification of information needs, the selection of an information system, the selection of search terms, the actual use of the system, and the evaluation of search results. Major implications pertain to the enhancement of the Edunet system and related services. The former includes the improvement of the retrieval mechanisms related to the search and display interfaces. The latter emphasizes the consideration of the origin of uncertainty in the process of the services. In other words, the study suggested to consider the inadequacy of the system functions, the insufficiency of search experiences and the lack of such abilities of particular users.

  • This research empirically explores the relationship between types of performance information use, decision making behaviors and performance of government organizations. We measured two types of using performance information, relevance of performance index, variety of performance information, and levels of manager intervention by surveying performance managers of each government ministry or agency and also measured performance by using performance reports. The results of fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis suggest that hard use and soft use have impact on performance by combining with characteristics of performance information and managers decision-making by intervening performance management processes.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze library space use patterns through users' smartphone WiFi. This study is applied a method to detect WiFi signal of users' smartphone to analyze the in-library wayfinding of users. The library usage data were collected for four months in a library in Seoul, Korea. The results show that the average 37.9% of library users revisits the library the next month. Half of users stay under 7 minutes in the library. Users mainly visit the library between 2 and 3 o'clock, and few users visit the library after 5 pm on weekends. The floor moving pattern result shows that the co-visit rate between the third and fourth floor is higher than others, in that these two floors are mainly composed of book shelves. These results indicate that the method to detect the WiFi signal for spatial pattern analysis could be more effective than observation which was used in previous research. It, therefore, is expected that this method would be applied in other libraries to analyze and enhance the library space usage.

  • This study investigated how college students seek and use information sources at the time of their decision making (especially during elections on this study). More than 360 students in 12 colleges located in Seoul were randomly selected and participated in this study. The survey asked them what kind of information sources they use at the time of their decision making as well as when they use information as usual. Several criteria for information evaluation were adopted to analyze information attributes and information seeking behavior of the population. Compare to the previous studies, Internet resources are more used than ever, information credibility and authority affected more to the population's political decision making. Additional examinations were executed to see deeper story of their information seeking at the end.
