A Consciousness Survey on Natural Disasters of Inhabitants living in Islands of Korean Southeastern Sea (동남해안 도서 주민의 자연재해에 관한 의식 조사)

  • As a basic data to build a countermeasures against coastal disaster, the conscious survey of people living around the coastal are is needed. This study performed the conscious survey on 5 islands located at Korean southeast ocean including Youngdo of Busan. Among many respondents, 503 effective answers are got and followings are the analyzed results. Among the various kinds of disasters, especially the typhoon(28%), storm surge(19%), earthquake(15%) are selected as menacing disasters in mind to coastal inhabitants. Typhoon(60%) and storm surge(21%) were the representative disasters that the coastal inhabitants experienced. 67% among the respondents get the disaster-related information from TV and/or commercial medias, and other 21% depend on their own experiences. Although 33% of respondents attended the disaster-related training and the training time was less than 2 hours, they answered the training was very helpful. Over 85% among the respondents answered they will evacuate if a disaster occur, but only 19% know the evacuee shelter(s). Except the foods, various living goods are selected and willing to carry with for living at shelter if they have to evacuate.

The Study on the Interface Design for supporting the Exhibition Viewing (전시환경을 위한 전시관람 지원 인터페이스 디자인에 관한 연구)

  • With the introduction of the digital technology in the exhibition environment, the information of the exhibit has come to be transmitted through diverse media. The visitors desire has been increased from the simple viewing of the exhibition to the active participation in the exhibition viewing and the utilization of the exhibit information. Subsequently, the study on the service to effectively support the viewing experience and provide the information by utilizing the internet and mobile device for visitors in movement has become important in terms of the exhibition environment. Accordingly, in this study, the current condition in studying the service supporting the exhibition environment and the exhibition viewing, which are being changed into a digital network environment, was examined through the literature and case studies. In order to find out the viewing situation and viewing type of visitors, the visitors behaviors of viewing the exhibition were observed. By analyzing the contents observed, the viewing type and keyword were drawn in accordance with the visitors behaviors of viewing. On the basis of this, visitors needs and problems occurring in case of the exhibition viewing were found out via in-depth interview. The service factors of supporting the exhibition viewing were proposed on the basis of the factors by which visitors needs and problems could be solved via interface in the circumstance when visitors would move round the exhibition hall and view the exhibition. In terms of the service factors, the method to resolve was presented on the basis of the relationship between the exhibit and the space in case of selecting and viewing the exhibit. This was applied into the mobile PDA with the example of the exhibition environment in the national museum. Through the scenario of using, the usefulness of the service proposed and the relevant possibility of utilization were reviewed.

  • With the advent of the digital broadcasting, the audiences can access a large number of TV programs and their information through the multiple channels on various media devices. The access to a large number of TV programs can support a user for many chances with which he/she can sort and select the best one of them. However, the information overload on the user inevitably requires much effort with a lot of patience for finding his/her favorite programs. Therefore, it is useful to provide the persona1ized broadcasting service which assists the user to automatically find his/her favorite programs. As the growing requirements of the TV personalization, we introduce our automatic user preference learning algorithm which 1) analyzes a user's usage history on TV program contents: 2) extracts the user's watching pattern depending on a specific time and day and shows our automatic TV program recommendation system using MPEG-7 MDS (Multimedia Description Scheme: ISO/IEC 15938-5) and 3) automatically calculates the user's preference. For our experimental results, we have used TV audiences' watching history with the ages, genders and viewing times obtained from AC Nielson Korea. From our experimental results, we observed that our proposed algorithm of the automatic user preference learning algorithm based on the Bayesian network can effectively learn the user's preferences accordingly during the course of TV watching periods.

Changes in Korean Consumers' Perception on Food Preservatives by a Risk Communication Booklet

  • Food preservatives are very important food additives for the biological and chemical safety of processed foods. The purposes of this study were to investigate Korean consumer's perception and information needs on food preservatives, to develop an educational booklet as a risk communication material on food preservatives, and to assess the educational effect of the developed booklet. To understand perception on food preservatives, a self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted by 381 parents having elementary school students at Seoul and Geoynggi area in Korea. Based on the survey results, brain storming of the authors along with consultation from the professionals, we developed a risk communication booklet about food preservatives. It was exposed to 35 parents of elementary school children, and their evaluation was collected by using a questionnaire and analyzed statistically. Respondents considered food safety (44.8%) as the most important factor while purchasing processed foods. They still perceived food additives as the most hazardous one (41.5%), and among those, food preservatives were the most concerned (45.9%). Total 67.7% of the respondents considered the consumption of food preservatives as hazardous or very hazardous. However, 90.6% of respondents did not have any educational experience about food additives and food preservatives. Based on their information needs, a science-based booklet consisting of the definition, classification, safety, intake, and management of food preservatives was developed. When the booklet titled as 'Food preservatives, Just Know Them!' was exposed to the parents via elementary school teacher, their negative perceptions on food additives and food preservatives were changed positively by increasing the understanding level on preservatives from 18.9% to 90.9% and obtaining 72.7% positive answers on their safety. Therefore, it could be used as an effective risk communication material on food preservatives.

  • The accessibility and effect of cartoon on children are very significant. Since cartoon is a medium of conveying information through text and pictures, it has a characteristic of being easily approached by children than any other medium. Its accessibility to children is inevitably more exceptional than any other medium in the sense that it is a method of not only telling or reading stories but also showing stories. The main audience of is children. It has a characteristic of being easily accepted by children since it's mythology seen in cartoon than read in text. However, gods conducts are full of unethical expressions. Sexual expressions of intermarriages between mother and son, between brother and sister and between uncle and niece, as well as extramarital intercourse are very unethical that could have negative effects on children. This study analyzed the unethical expressions of gods that could have negative effects on children at current point in time. Zeus was often unfaithful to his wife with many stories about the children of Zeus that were created from extramarital intercourse. Standard of value on rational decision has been established for adult readers, but children can readily accept things since they lack their own rational decision on what's right and wrong. As an alternative to children's uncritical observatory study, there is a need for author's intervention to help children form desirable values. The purpose of this study is to analyze the sexual expressions of Zeus and gods in that could affect children's social study.

A Design Suggestion of Fairy Tales for the Silver Applying to the Service Design (서비스디자인을 적용한 실버대상 동화책의 디자인적 제안)

  • As the population of silver generation is increased, there are emerged the aging society and the silver industry as social issues. Previous studies in the fields of library & information science, education, the industrial art science suggested the need for fairy tale books for the silver generation, and from the design perspective, the characteristics of fairy tale books for the silver generation were analyzed. A fairy tale book is not only a medium delivering some information, but also a platform that a writer provides services to readers. Therefore, the purpose of this study aimed to suggest the importance of sensual experience on the design of fairy book for the silver generation, and to analyze such kind of fairy book's format, grid, typography, type, edition structure, image, layout, cover, paper, printing and production on the basis of five senses. According to the findings of this study, it was found that fairy tale books for the silver generation had different characteristics(type, picture, color, paper, etc.) from those for children, and it would be desirable to make designs for fairy tale books for the silver generation under the silver generation's esthetics standards with considering the silver generation's physiological, psychological factors. It is expected that this study would become a good foundation for more intensive researches for fairy tale books for the silver generation in future and would also be theoretically helpful in developing fairy tale books for the silver generation in future.

Historiography of TV Documentary (TV의 젠더 역사쓰기의 가능성과 한계: 역사다큐멘터리를 중심으로)

  • This study analysed the narrative of and , two history documentary broadcasted on KBS, in terms of story-telling and discourse. And it also examined whether TV as mass media could provide an alternative interpretation against the dominant historical awareness. As a result, both programmes showed limitations on representing subversive point of view to the dominant ideology. At the story-telling level, firstly, they represented in a way of male-hero narrative though they were describing the history of woman, and while representing woman as a public figure they eliminated her feminity and individuality. Secondly, before evaluating woman as a historic figure they previously appreciated her appearance in a male-point of view. Thirdly, although they were telling the story of woman in a political view, they focused on love triangle, therefore failed to make her as a public figure. The discourses of both programmes were anchoring the existing historical interpretation instead of offering an alternative historical imagination. The narrator who were telling history at the studio in a omniscient viewpoint took a role as a meaning definer, placed at the highest rank in the hierarchy of discourse structure. Especially in , the dramatized images to cover lack of visual data helped anchor the patriarchal narrative and reduced the possibility of subversive interpretation on historic figure.

Performance Evaluation of MAC Protocols Considering Various Input Traffic in WDM Metro Ring Networks (WDM 메트로 링 망에서 다양한 입력 트래픽을 고려한 MAC 프로토콜의 성능분석)

  • 본 논문에서는 광대역 통신 방송 융합 서비스 제공을 고려한 WDM 메트로 링 망을 위한 매체 접근 제어(Medium Access Control; MAC) 프로토콜의 성능을 분석한다. 현재 인터넷은 통신 방송 융합 망으로 진화하고 있으며 다양한 트래픽 특성을 갖는 서비스가 액세스 망에서 메트로 망으로 유입되고 있다. 그러나 기존 메트로 망의 MAC 프로토콜은 이러한 망 환경 변화를 고려하지 않고 단순하고 동일한 트래픽만을 고려하여 성능을 분석하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 메트로 링에 연결된 액세스 노드의 입력 트래픽을 Self-Similar와 Poisson 트래픽으로 분류하여 기존 MAC 프로토콜의 성능을 분석하고 평가한다. 메트로 링 망에 연결된 액세스 노드는 이 두 종류의 트래픽 중에서 하나를 망에 유입하며 채널을 공유하는 노드 수에 따라서 다양한 트래픽 환경이 고려된다. WDM 메트로 링망의 기본 MAC 프로토콜은 CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance)이며, 패킷을 빈 슬롯에 전송하고 송신지에서 패킷을 제거하는 SS (Source-Stripping) 기반으로 운용된다. 본 논문에서는 SS 방식으로 생성된 빈 슬롯을 바로 패킷 전송에 이용하는 방식과 그렇지 않은 방식을 각각 1-Persistent와 non-Persistent로 분류하고 MAC 프로토콜을 분석하여 기존 방식의 장 단점을 비교한다. 또한 전송 공정성과 처리율을 같이 고려하여 적용할 수 있는 확률 기반 p-Persistent MAC 프로토콜도 분석하였으며 시뮬레이션을 통하여 각 프로토콜을 노드 처리율, 전송 지연, 패킷 손실률, 전송 공정성 관점에서 비교하고 평가한다.y 수행을 여러 서버로 분산처리하게 함으로써 성능에 대한 신뢰성을 향상 시킬 수 있는 Load Balancing System을 제안한다.할 때 가장 효과적인 라우팅 프로토콜이라고 할 수 있다.iRNA 상의 의존관계를 분석할 수 있었다.수안보 등 지역에서 나타난다 이러한 이상대 주변에는 대개 온천이 발달되어 있었거나 새로 개발되어 있는 곳이다. 온천에 이용하고 있는 시추공의 자료는 배제하였으나 온천이응으로 직접적으로 영향을 받지 않은 시추공의 자료는 사용하였다 이러한 온천 주변 지역이라 하더라도 실제는 온천의 pumping 으로 인한 대류현상으로 주변 일대의 온도를 올려놓았기 때문에 비교적 높은 지열류량 값을 보인다. 한편 한반도 남동부 일대는 이번 추가된 자료에 의해 새로운 지열류량 분포 변화가 나타났다 강원 북부 오색온천지역 부근에서 높은 지열류량 분포를 보이며 또한 우리나라 대단층 중의 하나인 양산단층과 같은 방향으로 발달한 밀양단층, 모량단층, 동래단층 등 주변부로 NNE-SSW 방향의 지열류량 이상대가 발달한다. 이것으로 볼 때 지열류량은 지질구조와 무관하지 않음을 파악할 수 있다. 특히 이러한 단층대 주변은 지열수의 순환이 깊은 심도까지 가능하므로 이러한 대류현상으로 지표부근까지 높은 지온 전달이 되어 나타나는 것으로 판단된다.의 안정된 방사성표지효율을 보였다. $^{99m}Tc$-transferrin을 이용한 감염영상을 성공적으로 얻을 수 있었으며, $^{67}Ga$-citrate 영상과 비교하여 더 빠른 시간 안에 우수한 영상을 얻을 수 있었다. 그러므로 $^{99m}Tc$-transierrin이 감염 병소의 영상진단에 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된

A Semiotic Approach on the Political UCC Contents Focused on Video UCC, (정치적 UCC 콘텐츠에 대한 기호학적 연구 동영상 UCC, 을 중심으로)

  • UCC, an abbreviation for User Created Contents, is not only a symbol of desire but also a product of creativity that a producer contains his or her subjective disposition. More and more UCC tend to have significantly increased in Web 2.0 environment. However, the research on the contents as a creative product has rarely been processed. It may be fairly said that this results in the indifference of researchers in the special field like the political contents since UCC is usually produced by amateurs. Producers' various desire is unlikely revealed, which leads to the flow of users into open media such as the Internet. It could also be available to represent the property, of plural visual language signs in a field. Moreover, UCC has the attribute of re-mediation in effective communication, so the differences between the semiotic properties in the Internet contents could be a significant material for researches. This could contribute to establish a theoretical system for the visual communication. Therefore, this study aims to analyse the signification of the political video UCC, . To develop this analysis, I apply Greimas' Generative Trajectory of Signification Theory to the text, or the UCC. He classifies it as three structures: deep structure, superficial structure, and discourse structure. As a result, the text shows meaningful contents delivering core political messages. In addition, this approach could exam that 'Obama Syndrome' in American recent presidential campaigns is caused by web 2.0 based on Internet campaigns including video UCC.

  • The emergence of new communication media, digital, is something of a wonder, as well as a cultural tension. The industrial technologies that dramatically expand human abilities are being developed much faster than the speed of adaptation by humans. Without an exception, it creates new contents and form of the culture by shaking the very foundation of the notion about human beings. Korean broadcasting environment has stepped into the era of multi-media, multi-channel as the digital technology separated the media into network, cable, satellite and internet. In this digital culture, broadcasting, as a medium of information delivering and communication, has bigger influence than ever. Such changes in broadcasting environment turned the TV viewers into new consumers who participate and play the main role in active communication by choosing and using the media. This study is trying to systemize the question about the core identity of broadcasting through brand as the consumers stand in the center of broadcasting with the power to select channel. The story schema theory can be applied as a cognitive psychological tool to approach the active consumers in order to explain the cognitive processes that are related to information processing. It is a design with stories, which comes up as a case of a brand's story telling. The range of this study covers the current issue and educational programs in network TV during the period of May and August of year 2005. The cases of Korean and foreign programs were compared by the station each program is broadcasted. This study concludes that it is important to take the channel identity into the consideration in the brand strategy of each program. Especially, the leading programs of a station must not be treated as a separate program that has nothing to do with the station's identity. They must be treated to include the contents and form that builds the identity of the channel. Also, this study reconfirmed that building a brand of the anchor person can play as an important factor in the identity of the program's brand.
