  • This study focused on the role of active knowledge seeking (knowledge browsing and knowledge searching) in the context of virtual community of interest. Knowledge seeking is rarely studied as an antecedent in knowledge management (KM) research. Active knowledge seeking is considered as antecedents of sense of virtual community which mediates to knowledge sharing intention and virtual community promotion. Research hypotheses are tested by applying structure equation modeling with survey data from virtual community members in South Korea. Active knowledge seeking behavior was found to be the strong predictor of sense of virtual community, which, in turn, positively affects knowledge sharing intention and virtual community promotion. Implication to practitioners is to understand and accommodate the members' knowledge seeking efforts, who are potential contributors and promoters of the virtual community. Knowledge seeking, knowledge sharing and promoting virtual community are more of human activities than technology and this study extends the understanding of such human activities. By providing a mechanism of how knowledge seeking and sharing could work harmoniously, a virtuous circle with win-win situation could be achieved in virtual communities.

  • As Internet has become a popular media for sharing information, users create and share tremendous volume of information including large amount of personal information in cyberspace. Sharing private information online can enhance strength of social relationship but it could also bring negative consequences like information privacy invasion. Although many companies and governments address the importance of information privacy online, there are countless cases of crimes and hackings relating personal information online world wide. Since there are some researches investigating the role of governments and organizations on online privacy domain but there is little research regarding users' privacy protection behaviors. This study investigates relationship between Internet users' information privacy protection behavior and environmental factors. Especially, this study focuses on users' behaviors regarding information privacy protection technology adoption. According to our research results, users' online privacy protective behaviors positively affected by governmental regulations expressed as an information privacy protection law. In addition, if user is allowed to use anonymity when he or she uses online services, they have more tendencies to adopt privacy protection technologies. The detailed research findings and contribution are discussed as well.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the factors which influence biotechnology scientists' data sharing intention. This study employed Ostrom's theory of collective action. The target population of this study includes scientists and students of biotechnology field in South Korea. A total of 411 responses which collected by e-mail were used for the final data analysis. The summary of this study is as follows. First, norm of data sharing and academic reciprocity were found to have significant positive influences on data sharing intention directly. Second, perceived community trust was found to have significant positive influences on data sharing intention when academic reciprocity was the mediator. Third, academic reputation showed the moderating effects on the relationship between norm of data sharing and academic reciprocity, and between norm of data sharing and data sharing intention. These findings show that researchers can approach the data sharing behaviors by using the mechanism of trust, norms, reciprocity, and reputation and indicate necessity for a development of academic reputation system to promote more data sharing behaviors of researchers.

  • This study focuses on identifying motivation factors affecting knowledge sharing behavior in virtual communities. To achieve this research objective, a research model has been developed through two major coordinated theories such as social cognitive theory(self-efficacy and community-related outcome expectation) and social exchange theory (codification effort, image, reciprocity, and enjoyment in helping others). 246 samples have been collected and simple regression and multiple regression methods have been used for empirical analysis. The research result is that self-efficacy has a positive influence on image, reciprocity, enjoyment in helping others, and community-related outcome expectation and thus this result reveals that self-efficacy indirectly affects knowledge sharing behavior. Among the antecedents of knowledge sharing behavior, codification effort, enjoyment in helping others and community-related outcome expectation are significant, but image and reciprocity are not. The research results help to derive practical strategic implications related to knowledge sharing to activate a virtual community.

  • This study discerned interactions that secondary students experience during their studies and information behaviors that explains their interactions. In addition, when young people collaborate with their friends, this study identified their actions, such as collecting, using, sharing, and generating information, and the social and cultural factors that influence the behavior. The research questions consisted of 'Radical Change Theory' focusing on the information behavior of the digital age youth and the type of radical change in the digital age. As a result of the research, the status of collaborative information behavior of middle and high school students was reflected in our educational reality. Students, however, approached and utilized various information sources, diversified their opinion sharing tools, and discovered channels that were different from adults and used them in information activities. Though not as anticipated, they suggested that the experience of collaboration helped the individual's growth.

  • Due to the growing activity of online communities recently, its influence is gradually growing. Furthermore, it also has a huge effect on corporations in establishing their marketing strategy. One important aspect that occurs is that there is a high possibility that the interest of online community members, which was first organized because of a common interest, will be similar. Thus, there is a growing desire to share information and knowledge that would be mutually useful among them. Therefore, this study aims at revealing the motivation factors on why such knowledge sharing behavior occurs among online community members that are voluntarily organized. The detailed objectives of this survey is to first conduct qualitative research on online community members, and then to examine what are the motivation factors that cause knowledge sharing behavior among online community members. Second, by developing questionnaires according to the analyzed contents of the qualitative research results, the reliability and feasibility of such questions are to be verified. As a result, new motivation factor of knowledge sharing which was not suggested in the existing studies because of characteristics of online community was revealed. If the results of existing related studies and those of this study are compared, the six factors such as desire of showing off, awareness, perceived benefits, pleasure, challenge and sense of belonging except for motivator such as sense of achievement and compensation, trust are newly discovered motivators of knowledge sharing behavior.

  • ADHD is a neuro-developmental disorder that begins in childhood, yet may continue into adulthood. Although 3 to 4 percent of adults are affected by ADHD, but only a small proportion of adults ever receive a formal diagnosis and treatment. The core symptoms of ADHD frequently lead to significant academic difficulties that often result in the students' teacher being the first to suspect the disorder. In order for school teachers to effectively deal with ADHD students in school classrooms, they need to have positive attitude toward ADHD students. This study presents a list of ADHD-related web sites which provide educational contents and support for school teachers, and provides the discussions about the current status and the roles of those web sites.
