Imha lake has a high turbid water which keeps up during a few months, as comparing to other dams. Origins of the high turbid water derive from suspended materials which compose of micro particles of clay and rock-forming minerals. They are the weathered products from surface rocks that relate with particular geology in drainage field of the Imha dim. Accordingly we have fundamentally surveyed the kinds, properties, distribution and structures of general geology, found a few particular geology that source clay materials, and traced the passage that their weathered products enter the dam. We have suggested the basic origins of increase in turbid degree from detecting kinds and behavior of the suspended materials cause high turbid water in the Imha lake.

The effect of dietary clay mineral on meat quality in M. longissimus of Hanwoo (Korean cattle) bull beef during refrigerated storage (4$^{\circ}C$) was investigated. Experimental groups were divided into control (basal diet) and CT-1.25% (basal diet + 1.25% clay mineral) groups. There was no significant differences in proximate and fatty acid compositions between control and CT-1.25% groups. The pH of control group was significantly (p<0.05) changed during storage, but CT-1.25% group was little affected by storage time. CIE a* (redness), chroma (C*) values and R630-R580 were significantly (p<0.05) decreased during storage for both groups. In particular, those values decreased more rapidly in the control group. The rate of metmyoglobin accumulation during storage increased more rapidly in the control group. Therefore, discoloration in the control group was more accelerated compared to the CT-1.25% group. TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances) which represents lipid rancidity were significantly (p<0.05) lower in CT-l.25% group than in the control. Water-holding capacity (WHC) was significantly (p<0.05) increased during storage for both groups, and CT-1.25% group had significantly (p<0.05) higher WHC than control group. Consequently, feeding of clay mineral (1.25%) was effective in increasing meat color stability and WHC, and retarding lipid oxidation than did control group.
In order to assess the possibility of using steel fibers in the fissured ciays, uniaxial compression tests were performed on both unreinforced and reinforced clay samples containing a pre-existing crack. Test results showed that the steel fiber reinforcement increased resistance to cracks initiation and their propagation, and therefore increased both stress at crack growth initiation and peak stress at failure. The increase in resistance to cracks initiation and their propagation was related to the arresting or deflecting the crack propagation in clay samples by steel fibers. A theoretical interpretation of experimental results was made using fracture mechanics theory and pull-out mechanisms in fiber reinforced materials. It was revealed that the steel fibers had bridging effect through their pull-out action that caused an increased resistance to the propagation of the cracks in the samples. The predicted pull-out force based on theoretical analyses agreed reasonably well with the measured values obtained from pull-out tests.

Clays, which are abundant in nature and eco-friendly, have been utilized throughout human history due to their characteristic physicochemical properties. Recently, a variety of clays such as montmorillonite, kaolinite, sepiolite and layered double hydroxide with or without chemical modification have been extensively studied for potential application in industries. Clays that possess a large specific surface area, high aspect ratio, nanometer sized layer thickness and controllable surface charge could be utilized as polymer fillers after appropriate chemical modifications. These modified clays can improve mechanical and gas barrier properties of polymer materials but also provide sustained antibacterial activity to polymer films. Furthermore, engineered clays can be utilized as scavengers for chemical or biological pollutants in water or soil, because they have desirable adsorption properties and chemical specificity. In this review, we are going to introduce recent researches on engineered clays for potential applications in future industries such as food packaging and environmental remediation.

For a massive project related to building national industrial complexes on a soft ground applied to PVD after dredging and hydraulic fill, laboratory tests were carried out using undisturbed sample taken from various depth. Piezocone penetration and dissipation tests were carried out to assess horizontal coefficient of consolidation and initial stress in field. The ground consists of upper dredged fill and lower original clay layer having both similar marine clays. It should be, however, considered as multi-layered soft ground having different initial void ratio, initial water content, initial effective stress, and permeability and compressibility with directions. To assess initial stress of those soft layers in which have different stress history related to consolidation, CPTu test results, especially excess pore water pressure, were analyzed. It allows to find out distribution of excess pore water pressure and initial stress inner original clay layer.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of cutting type, growth regulators and propagation media on the rooting and root growth of Roea davurica $P_{ALL}$. Three type of cutting, hardwood, half-softwood, softwood cutting and root cutting of Rosa davurica $P_{ALL}$, were used to study the rooting ability. There was no rooting in hardwood cutting while root cutting was appeared 100% of callus formation and rooting. The optimum conditions of softwood cutting for rooting were IAA 100ppm and rooton-F at vermiculite+perlite. The rate of rooting in treatment of rooton-F ranged from 10 to 60%, but such a good effect was not appeared in other growth regulators, IAA, NAA and IBA.

One of the most important concern in the design of barrier layer in to protect the water through the landfill. The barrier layer consists of a single compacted clay liner(CCL) or a composite liner with high density polyethylene(HDPE). The construction of barrier layer at the edge of cover system usually has some problems because of steep slope in the landfill. In this study the authors evaluate the geosynthetic clay liner(GCL) as a barrier layer at the edge of the final cover system in landfill. The GCLs were simulated the stability of slope, the HELP(Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance) and the durability of environmental situation. As the results, the GCL has more stable than the CCL. Therefore, the authors suggest that the GCL in good for the barrier layer of the final cover system in the landfill.

Field experiment were carried out to investigate the formation of ground water flow and remediation of muddy tidal flat by installation of porous pile at the tidal flat of brackish river located in Hiroshima City, Japan. After the installation of porous pile, the concentrations of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in the interstitial water in the porous pile increased with maximum concentration of 4 mg/L due to a formation of groundwater flow. It was observed that a increase in Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) and a decrease in Ignition Loss (IL) in the porous pile site and these must be caused by the increase of dissolved oxygen in the interstitial water. From these results obtained above, it is concluded that the porous pile is an effective technology for remediation of muddy tidal flats.
