The Sinistral Flounder Engyprosopon grandisquama(Pleuronectiformes: Bothidae), a New Record from Korea (한국산 둥글넙치과 어류 1 미기록종, Engyprosopon grandisquama)

  • A bothid specimen (65.8 mm SL) collected from southern coastal waters of Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, is identified as Engyprosopon grandisquama. The specimen represents a new Korean record for the species. It is characterized by the presence of 6 gill rakers on the lower limb of the first arch, caudal fin with a pair of large jet-black blotches between the 3rd and 4th rays counted from the upper and lower margins, and body depth more than 50% of body length. A new Korean name "keun-bi-neul-neop-chi-sok" and "keun-bi-neul-neop-chi" is proposed for the genus and species, respectively.

  • The maritime blockade has long been used as a means of war in that it serves as a bridge for economic warfare by paralyzing enemy maritime transport, although it is not a decisive battle, and in the Korean War, U.N. forces have achieved significant results in the war with limited maritime blockade through the Clark Line. However, with China emerging as a maritime powers based on its strong naval power, there is a lack of consideration on how to set up a blockade to block maritime activities and how to respond neutral ships or carrying wartime contraband products if war breaks out again on the Korean Peninsula, In addition, since maritime blockade should be used as a sensitive and flexible naval force projection in that it has interests with neutral countries, it should be carefully reviewed in that it can be used only through careful and reasonable judgment considering the principle of ensuring the legality of maritime blockade Therefore, in this study, Reexamine the process of change in the application of the International Law of Blockade, and through this, Derive the basic principle of ensuring the legitimacy of maritime blockade. In addition, by reviewing the application of these basic principles in the waters off the Korean Peninsula at wartime, we presented answers to research questions by reviewing what needs to be done to neutral ships and ships carrying wartime contraband products, and considered the implications for us

Polychaetous community is the Coastal Zone Off Samchunpo, Southern Sea of Korea (삼천포시 근해역의 다모류군집)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the benthic polychaetous community in the coastal area near Samchunpo City, in September and October of 1989. Polychaete, the dominant faunal group occupying 61.7% in the total faunal density, comprised a total of 50 species with a mean density of 112 indiv.m/SUP -2/. The Number of species and density were higher on the coastal area near Samchunpo Harbor and Samyang Sang-do. The most dominant Polychaete was Terebellides horikoshii (17.1%), followed by Lumbrineris longifolia (14.7%), and Mediomastus sp. (11.5%). The cluster analysis revealed that the study area could be divided into two areas. Each area sustained its specific benthic Polychaete assemblage; Terebellides-Heterogamous assemblage was located in the inner area from Samyang-do, and Lumbrineris-Mediomastus assemblage in the outer area. Lumbrineris-Heterogamous assemblage had higher polychaetous density and species number. Heterogamous sp. was the characteristic species occurring only in Terebellides-Heteromastus assemblage, whereas Mediomastus sp. only in Lumbrineris-Mediomastus assemblage.

  • 한반도 및 근해의 지진 지진해일 감시를 위해 지진관측망이 구축되어 있다. 이러한 지진관측망는 향후 조기경보를 위해 보다 조밀하게 설치될 예정이다. 지진계측기의 정보통신망은 대부분 행정망 및 전용회선 단일망으로 운영되고 있으며 지진계측기의 전력체계는 상용전원의 단일 전력체계로 운영되고 있다. 국내 지진관측망 운영상의 문제점으로 단일 정보통신망 운영으로 인한 통신 단절 발생 시 지속적인 자료 수집 불능과 단일 전력체계인 상용전원 단절시 통신장비에 전원공급 단절로 인한 실시간 자료 전송 장애 발생이 있다. 또한 지진관측기의 정보통신망과 전력체계에 대한 원격감시 및 관리 기능이 부재하여 유지 보수 및 안정적 자료수집에 취약점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 취약점을 극복하기 위해서는 각종 재해에 대한 내재해성과 유지보수성을 향상시키는 것이 시급하며 정보통신망과 전력체계의 다중화/이중화가 좋은 대안이 될 수 있다.

  • The TE-mode characteristics of scattering and reception by a flanged parallel-plate waveguide are examined. The technique of the Fourier transform is used to represent the scattered fields in the spectral domain. The simultaneous equations for the transmitted field coefficients are solved to obtain the solution in an asymptotic series form. The numerical computations are performed to illustrate the behaviors of the scattered field and the transmission coefficients versus the aperture size.

  • Relative light intensity was observed with underwater illuminometer (Cs Photoelectric cell, glass window) at the mouth of Yeong-il Bay, and relative vertical clearness and extinction coefficient were calculated from the relative light intensity data. Relationship between extinction coefficient and transparency in this region is also shown.

  • Korea has developed coastal farming industry due to the environmental characteristics that its three sides are surrounded by sea. The damage of coastal farming industry caused by Asterias Amurensis with very strong reproductive rate and predaciousness has increased sharply every year. Moreover, Asterias Amurensis preys on living fish and shellfish and so the damage of fishermen is vern greater. In this paper, a method is proposed to extract effectively the features from the image of Asterias Amurensis acquired in the water. Because the proposed method extracts convex features using 6-directional scanning, it selects a fewer number of feature candidates than the conventional one. In addition, after selecting candidate concave points using the extracted convex features and centers of region, the final concave features are extracted. Due to the features of the starfish which lives in groups, individuals of the starfish in the input image are concentrated. Thus, it is significant to minimize the number of feature candidates extracted from the input image. The experimental results indicate an improvement of the proposed feature extraction method over the conventional one as evidenced by the fact that the feature extract was 88 % of the feature candidates.

  • 최근 우리나라 연안어업은 한일, 한중어업협정, WTO 가입 등으로 주변 환경이 급격하게 변화되는 한편, 연근해 어자원의 감소와 근해어업과의 경쟁조업 등으로 인해 경영수지가 극도로 악화되고 있다. 이로 인해 연안어민들의 최소 생계기반 마저 위협받고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 연안어업의 수익향상과 자원관리 측면에서 경제성 연안 어선의 선형개발 방안을 검토하였다. 이를 위해 새로운 어선어업 환경에서 요구하는 자원관리, 채산성보장 등의 경제 사회적 요건을 기술적 요소로 변환하여 다목적어선의 개념을 설정하고 관련 기초자료를 마련하였다. 특히, 연안어업을 동해, 서해, 남해, 서남해 등으로 나누어 허가업종의 실태와 어민 요구사항이 서로 다른 점을 감안하여 다목적화 가능 업종을 선정하고, 선형개발 방안을 도출, 정리하였다.

  • A finite element analysis scheme is proposed to assess the dynamic response due to impulse excitation of ocean mining pipe system. Transient dynamic response analysis based on the proposed scheme was carried out for various types of impulses, and the magnitude of cable tension induced by impulse was discussed by using a model of 'Segero', a special purpose ship of KT-Submarine as well as ROV carrier 'Onnuri' A qualitative, prospective guideline for the relevant marine operation is obtained.

  • To provide an easy operation of drift prediction model in SAR(search and rescue) mission a GUI program running on Window environment has developed. Users can make choice of input data on the screen by just clicking the mouse and the prediction results of datum points and trajectories of vessels are drawn on the map. The program contains both Leeway Equation model and mathematical model. The FORTRAN language was used in programming and Lehay Winteracter 4.0 software was utilized for graphic presentation. The result of May, 2001 Busan field experiment was plotted with that of model prediction for demonstration purpose.
