Most of the researches on the view of marriage from 1970s until now have merely been the status survey to get a glimpse of thoughts on the marriage of the time. It is true that the recognitions of marriage in the recent days, especially those of the youth are going through a great deal of changes. However, it is also recognized that although westernized views on marriage recently are flooding in, still the traditional perspectives are firmly rooted underneath. Therefore, this study intended to predict the potential conflicts from diversified marital perspectives of the youth in the contemporary society applying the Korean views on marriage as an effort to develop views on marriage in scientific way, analyze the psychological problems before and after marriage, and pursue successful marriage to form a stable and desirable family. As for the method, questions were selected by 275 university students and the validity and reliability of marriage views by 1,283 married couples were examined. As a result, the following conclusions were made. The scale for Korean marriage values were summarized to six factors - 'traditional marriage', 'successful marriage', 'irrationality of marriage', 'necessity of marriage', 'cohabitation', and 'divorce and remarriage', showing high correlation with the existing scales, and the reliability coefficient of each subscale indicated as comparatively reliable with the value of Cronbach α=.88 at Cronbach α=.63.
This study investigates changes in family values (attitudes toward marriage, children, and traditional sex roles) and examines how the values influence on their intentions of marriage and expected age at first marriage. A sample consists of 5,984 never married men and women drawn from the 2005 and 2009 National Marriage and Fertility Study. The results show that the endorsement on marriage and children has decreased while endorsement on traditional sex role attitude has increased over the past five years. Those who have higher values on marriage, children, and traditional sex role have a higher likelihood of marriage intention. However, the effects of the family values on marriage intention have weakened during the period. The endorsement on marriage lowers the mean ages of the expected first marriage. Comparing the effects of the family values during the period, this study find that normative aspects of the family values have lower effects, whereas individual aspects of the values have stronger effects over time. These findings suggest that the effects of family values vary across sex, time, and the aspect of the values.

This study aims to explore the cultural contact experience of the Vietnamese Marriage Immigrant's between Vietnamese and Korean culture which is based on the traditional holidays. In order to achieve the goal of this study, this study was conducted by case study method and the data collection was conducted through in - depth interviews with 7 Vietnamese marriage immigrant women. The results of the study are as follows. While Vietnamese married immigrant women have become familiar with Korean culture by experiencing Korean culture while experiencing their own culture, they are experiencing a lot of conflicts due to cultural differences between their home country and Korea. However, they were able to confirm their aggressive adaptation in their domestic and social environments through their experience of traditional Korean festivals. Based on these findings, this study proposes the following suggestions for successful immigrant marriage immigration. First, for a harmonious family life in a Vietnamese multicultural families, it is not a one-way education for married immigrant women, but a mutual culture Education should proceed. Second, marriage immigrant women expressed the feeling that they did not feel family bond and communication in the holiday place. Therefore, it is necessary to acquire the function of traditional festival that promotes the bond of community with more specific programs and events related to traditional festivals do.
This study focused on the wedding ceremony. It was considered as important social text containing cultural codes of Korean society related gender system. Using the concepts of 'Myths', introduced by Barthes, this study analysed every procedure of wedding ceremony prevailed contemporary Korea. Romantic Love, creation of the ideology system of Western bourgeois and peculiar Confucian ideas about gender structure in Korean patriarchy system are both important frames determined wedding culture in Korea society. Thus this study divided wedding ceremony into displaying sphere and non-displaying sphere. Then, displaying sphere was framed by myth of romantic love, but non-displaying sphere was framed by traditional Confucian ideas. And, the transformation of contemporary wedding ceremony has the nature of kitsch, related the radical change of Korean class structure, also it worked as myth reveled up the unequality of present gender system.

In this paper, we propose a identity the effect of acculturative stress on life satisfaction with the mediating effect of self-esteem among marriage migrant women participating in Korean traditional dance. Participants of this study were marriage migrant women (experimental group: 28, control group: 30). Surveys that were taken before and after the 3 months of participation in Korean traditional dance were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results indicated that acculturative stress had a positive influence on self-esteem and life satisfaction, and self-esteem mediated the effect of acculturative stress on life satisfaction among marriage migrant women who participated in Korean traditional dance. Therefore, this study confirmed that acculturative stress had a direct effect on self-esteem and life satisfaction and had an indirect effect on life satisfaction mediated by self-esteem among marriage migrant women who participated in Korean traditional dance.
One of the reasons for low fertility rate in Korea is related to the delayed marriage among the population belong to marriage cohorts. The major goal of this study is to analyze how the economic resources such as level of education, whether employed or not, and occupation have affected one's marriage opportunity and how it is differed by gender. Meanwhile, the changes in the influence of economic resources and the changes in the marriage norms were also studied by analyzing 2% Census data in 1995, 2000 and 2005. Total number of 1.1 million men and women in their ages between 20 to 44 are included in data and binary-logistic analysis is used for statistical research. This study supports a traditional hypothesis that the influence of economic resources on probability of marriage is different by gender. More important academic contribution of this study is the quality of economic resources is becoming more important for men since Asian economic crisis and that the negative effect of it on women is declining since 2000. It is analyzed that the effect of marriage norm has recently decreased on the part of women. These findings suggest that there is a tendency of polarization of marriage market in Korea affected by economic polarization since Asian economic crisis.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Korean traditional dance on acculturative stress and life satisfaction in the married immigrant women. The subjects of this quasi-experimental study were two folds as one experimental group and one control group. The subjects of experimental group were randomly composed of Korean traditional Dance. Contrary to this, the subjects of control group included those who neither participated in Korean traditional dance. All statistical analyses and description methods were computed by SPSS window 14.0. The discriminant analysis was used to find changes of the acculturative stress and life satisfaction, ANCOVA. The results of this study were as followings: Frist, there was founded that Korean traditional dance program group significantly decreased their acculturative stress. Second, there was founded that Korean traditional dance program group significantly improved their life satisfaction. It is concluded that Korean traditional dance program is directly and strongly cause and effect relations with the acculturative stress and life satisfaction in the married immigrant women.
This paper analyzed the representation of migrants in television with the example of KBS's My Neighbor, Charles. This primetime TV show with consistent popularity has showcased different types of migrants from other Korean television shows in terms of gender and race, and, partly the difference brought popularity to it. This study finds the major reason of the difference from changed migration patterns in Korea. Until recently, the main population of immigrants in Korea was composed of female brides and workers, but it became diversified to include male and the West migrants. This triggered the changes in media representation, but not thoroughly. Though the faces of migrant protagonists have been diversified, the remaining ideology of nation-centric that has been the main frame to regard migrants as someone to be integrated through traditional values persists. This study finds a few conflicts between the traditional and the change. For example, represented realities of migrants are extends to include their activities in public domain, disputes of multicultural society such as social differentiation and bias, and the criticism of Korean traditional culture. In a gender perspective, while all the marriages represented showed different kinds of vulnerability, discourses of traditional familialism were also clearly presented through different tools of representation. This study aims at contributing existing studies of media representations of migrants with a more complicated pictures in the context of social changes and migration population changes.
Ever since Korea and Vietnam reestablished diplomatic relations, the two countries'bond has become stronger than ever, augmenting the range of exchange between them in almost every possible field including politics, economy, society, and culture at such a high speed. Among many, an increase in number of Vietnamese immigrant women in international marriage is worthy of close attention. Since 2010, Vietnamese has topped the proportion of total foreign women married to Korean men, having surpassed Chinese. Nonetheless, the quick international marriage between Korean men and Vietnamese women, which usually happens without sufficient time to get to know about different cultures and languages, has not only raised problems for people concerned, but numerous social issues as well. Recognizing these problems, a number of government departments have provided various support on policies and legal issues toprotect multicultural families as a means of social integration and settlement support. Nevertheless, the support policies until now have been generalizing all of the immigrant women in international marriage as people subject to protection. Thus, considering every immigrant women as people in need, and trying to help them with various social issues have caused the government a high cost and low efficiency. This thesis emphasizes the point that through the cases of Vietnamese immigrant women in international marriage, there should be a specific support plan for specific people in need, reflecting various traits of different cultures and societies, in order to ease their settlement in Korea. Moreover, it suggests detailed plans for improvements on legal and institutional problems. Although the Vietnamese government forbids commercial agents for international marriage, many of agencies are still active and to help the immigrant women, who desire to return and resettle in Vietnam in case of divorce, this thesis suggests legal and institutional remedies for Korean and Vietnamese government. The composition of the thesis follows below: Part II on social and cultural traits of international marriage between Korean men and Vietnamese women. Part III on institutional problems and plans for improvements regarding settlement of immigrant women in international marriage. Part IV on legal and institutional problems and plans for improvements regarding divorced immigrant women and their return to Vietnam. Part V on conclusion. Divorce is not a flaw anymore nowadays, but in case of Vietnamese immigrant women ininternational marriage, an inadequate legal system hampers their resettlement process. Cases of not being ableto remove their own names from the family register due to poor financial and legal abilities are often identified and it is both the Vietnamese and Korean governments'duty to acquit their ethical responsibilities by seeking ways to institutionally and financially support them.
This study examines how individual, familial, and social factors are associated with persistent very low fertility in Busan Metropolitan City and contemplates family-friendly environments and social strategies for fertility increase. Fertility decline in Busan Metropolitan City recorded the lowest birth rate nationwide recent years among metropolitan cities and provinces in Korea. Birthrates are low partly because of multiple factors such as high age at childbearing and at marriage, decline in marriage, high divorce rate, the phenomena of marriage avoidance among unmarried women, traditional gender role attitude of men, low domestic work participation of husbands among dual career couples, low marital satisfaction and family life satisfaction, abortion, and more broader attiributes such as family policy, availability of childcare, education expenses, and family-friendlyness of a society. In addition, women of dual career couples in Busan strained from domestic work overload under traditional norms of gender role, and marital satisfaction recorded below average nationwide along with espeacially low marital satisfaction of wives compared to that of husbands. Major aspects of implications and considerations for higher birth rate and family friendly policy in Busan are discussed.
