Parameter estimation techniques are discussed for the complex frequency analysis of an electromagnetic scatterer. The paper suggests how the Maximum Likelihood estimation technique can be applied for this purpose. Experiments on hypothetical data sets demonstrate that the Maximum Likelihood technique is better than the Pencil of Functions technique. Although there have been several techniques including MLE suggested as tools of the parameter estimation, the proposed method has strong advantages under the noise-contaminated sample data environment because it uses minimal dimension of system matrix that stands totally independent of the length of extracted data set.

This paper presents the analysis of the impedance characteristic of the strip type waveguide mount backed by the dielectric substrate using mode the matching and induced EMF method. The part of the waveguide containing the dielectric substrate is modeled as waveguide partially filled with the dielectric, and a hybrid mode analysis has been conducted for the structure. The electromagnetic scattering problem by the dielectric substrate is solved by the mode matching method using the calculated modal function. The input impedance seen at the mount gap is calculated by the induced EMF method using the calculated results. the calculated results thus obtained has been verified through comparison with the results by other numerical methods. The effect of some structure parameters such as the width of the substrate and the gap size on the mount impedance is investigated.
The evolution and application of RFID technologies have been at the forefront of allowing aviation industries to improve the quality of aircraft maintenance and air cargo handling. However, safety problems in airplane operation are arising from the hazards of frequencies transmitted due to RFID systems. Though the intensities of frequencies back-scattered from the tags are very weak, some malfunctions are anticipated due to induction coupling on aircraft wiring. Therefore, safety assessment such as electromagnetic compatability should be accomplished upon aircraft critical and essential equipments before installations.

A study of miniaturization of an L-band orthomode transducer(OMT) for field experiments of radar backscatter is presented in this paper. The proposed OMT is not required the additional waveguide taper structures to connect with a standard adaptor by the newly designed junction structure which bases on a waveguide taper. Total length of the OMT for L-band is about 1.2 ${\lambda}_o$(310 mm) and it's a size of 60 % of the existing OMTs. And, to increase the matching and isolation performances of each polarization, two conducting posts are inserted. The bandwidth of 420 MHz and the isolation level of about 40 dB are measured in the operating frequency. The L-band scatterometer consisting of the manufactured OMT, a horn-antenna and network analyzer(Agilent 8753E) was used STCT and 2DTST to analysis the measurement accuracy of radar backscatter. The full-polarimetric RCSs of test-target, 55 cm trihedral corner reflector, measured by the calibrated scatterometer have errors of -0.2 dB and 0.25 dB for vv-/hh-polarization, respectively. The effective isolation level is about 35.8 dB in the operating frequency. Then, the horn-antenna used to measure has the length of 300 mm, the aperture size of $450{\times}450\;mm^2$, and HPBWs of $29.5^{\circ}$ and $36.5^{\circ}$ on the principle E-/H-planes.

A methodology for the identification and coordinates estimation of air cavities under urban ground or sandy soil using its natural poles and natural resonant frequencies is presented. The potential of this methodology was analyzed. Simulation models of PEC (Perfect Electric Conductor)s with various shapes and dimensions were developed using an EM (Electromagnetic) simulator. The Cauchy method was applied to the obtained EM scattering response of various objects from EM simulation models. The natural poles of objects corresponding to its instinct characterization were then extracted. Thus, a library of poles can be generated using their natural poles. The generated library of poles provided the possibility of identifying a target by comparing them with the computed natural poles from a target. The simulation models were made assuming that there is an air cavity under urban ground or sandy soil. The response of the desired target was extracted from the electromagnetic wave scattering data from its simulation model. The coordinates of the target were estimated using the time delay of the impulse response (peak of the impulse response) in the time domain. The MP (Matrix Pencil) method was applied to extract the natural poles of a target. Finally, a 0.2-m-diameter spherical air cavity underground could be estimated by comparing both the pole library of the objects and the calculated natural poles and the natural resonant frequency of the target. The computed location (depth) of a target showed an accuracy of approximately 84 to 93%.

This paper presents the design and fabrication of the diplexer for a KOREASAT-III Ka-band satellite transponder. The transmission characteristics of the diplexer is analyzed by calculating the generalized scattering matrix using mode matching method. It is composed of 2 bandpass filters, coupled with H-plane T-junction having symmetrical inductive iris and E-plane metal insert structures. Compared with the size and weight of the Rx and Tx filter loaded with a transponders respectively, those of the diplexer can be effectively reduced. In a high power transmission, the variation of the filter characteristics is minimized by the scheme that irises are extended to the exterior of H-plane of the waveguide. This scheme needs no extra heat sinks for dissipating high power. The diplexer is designed to improve the simplification, durability and reliability by eliminating tuning screws, which have been used to compensate for the characteristics of fabricated filters. The bandpass filters of the diplexer show the insertion loss of less than 1.2 dB and the return loss in excess of 15 dB. The isolations of more than 65 dB have been achieved between Rx and Tx filter.

This paper explores the throughput performance of CSMA/CA-based DCF protocol over both ideal channels and fading channels with payload size at the MAC layer in the 802.11a wireless LAN. In the ideal channel, there are no errors and at the transmission cycle there is one and only one active station which always has a packet to send and other stations can only accept packets and provide acknowledgements. In the fading channel, bit errors appear in the channel randomly and the number of stations is assumed to be fixed. And each station always has packets for transmission. In other words, we operate in saturation conditions. Up to now conventional research work about DCF throughput analysis of IEEE 802.11 a wireless LAN has been done over the ideal channel, but this paper is done over the Rayleigh/Ricean fading channel. So, the ratio of received average energy per bit-to-noise power spectral density $E_b/N_o$ is set to 25 dB and the ratio of direct-to-diffuse signal power in each sub-channel $\xi$ is set to 6 for combined Rayleigh/Ricean fading channel. In conclusion, it is shown that the saturation throughput is always less than the maximum throughput at all the payload size and the higher the transmission rate be, the higher the decreasing rate of saturation throughput compared to the maximum throughput be.

In this paper, we fabricated thick film monopole antennas using Bi$_2$O$_3$-doped BaTi$_4$$O_{9}$ ceramics for small size and broadband intenna. In the result, the high permittivity was fixed and the quality factor was also significantly decreased by the formation of secondary phase of Bi$_4$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ repleced by addtion Bi. The antenna property influenced by the quality value more than the permittivity. The bandwidth of antenna was increased to 33 %. On the other hand, the gain was reduced to -4.3 dBi. Also radiation patterns were showed low dBi value by increasing of dielectric loss. Specially, Measured x-y plane radiation patterns was distorted as the dispersion of wavelength and high permittivity difference. But the result is showed execellent bandwidth because of low quality value in all formation range.nge.

Weather radar is observation equipment that transmits electromagnetic waves and receives backscattered signals from the targets. The weather radar systems of the Korea Meteorological Administration have a doppler mode that can extract the target's radial velocity. However, the radial velocity over the maximum unambiguous velocity(${\nu}_m$) for which is in a trade-off relationship with the maximum unambiguous range is folded. Therefore, a dual PRF mode of which transmits and receives signals using two different PRFs(high and low) must be used to extend the vm while maintaining the maximum unambiguous range. Using a dual PRF mode, vm can be extended to the amount of lowest common denominator of two observed vm from high and low PRF. For this extension, we have developed a velocity unfolding algorithm of which uses several criteria for classification considering observed velocity differences between high and low PRF and their error boundary. Then, correction factors are calculated for each class and are applied to unfold radial velocity. The developed algorithm was applied to the Yong-In Testbed(YIT) radar and the generated better performance of radial velocity extraction than those of the previous system.

The prediction for vegetation attenuation using the RET model recommended in the ITU-R requires six RET input parameters. Among these, 4 parameters are related to the scattering characteristics of vegetation. To extract these parameters, two methods can be used. One is to extract the parameters by curve fitting of the measured vegetation-attenuation curve with the RET prediction model, and the other is to use the additional phase function measurement data. In the former method, fitting is quite complex and it does not result in the unique results in some cases. In addition, the extracted parameters lack the physical meaning as well. Thus, in this paper, the measurement method of phase function, and the method of extracting the RET model parameters which lead to more accurate and physically more meaningful results are presented. The extracted RET model parameters are also presented. The RET modeling method, measurement data, and the extracted RET model parameters presented in this paper were submitted to the ITU-R meeting in 2006, and adapted for ITU-R report and recommendation P.833.
