Design of 4-Mbps Transceiver Chip for Wireless Infrared Data Transmission (무선 적외선 데이터 전송을 위한 4-Mbps 송${\cdot}$수신기 칩의 설계)

  • This paper describes the design of a 4-Mbps wireless infrared data transceiver chip. The receiver consits of the analog front-end, clock recovery and frame generator, and demodulator. The transmitter consists of the demodulator and LED driver. The versatile analog front- end consisting of multiple amplifiers makes it possible for the chip to be applied to various infrared environments by compensating DC and offset signal components. A 4PPM (pulse position modulation) scheme is used for data transfer in order to meet the IrDA standards. The chip was fabricated in a $0.8-{\mu}m$ 2-poly, 2-metal CMOS technology and dissipates 122mW for ${\pm}2.5V$ supply.

Frequency and power stabilization of radio frequency excited CO2 laser using photoacoustic effect (광음향 효과에 의한 고주파 여기식 CO2 레이저의 주파수 및 출력 안정화)

  • We stabilized the frequency and power of a CW radio-frequency-excited $CO_2$ laser on the peak of the Doppler broadened gain curve using the photoacoustic effect generated from the laser itself. The condenser microphone is installed in the radio frequency discharge chamber to detect a photoacoustic signal. The photoacoustic signal is fed to a lock-in stabilizer as a reference signal for stabilization. The frequency stability is estimated to be better then 5.4${\times}$10$^{-8}$ at the P(20) line. The stabilized output variation was reduced 9.3%, compared to 100% for a free running laser.

  • This study has been done to design a precise system and develop position control algorithm to control a Composite Smoke Bomb Azimuth driving apparatus of a BLDC servo motor. Having to Blind the sight of opposite tank. the Smoke Bomb Rotational driving system needs instant response that is able to detect opponent appearance and blast the bomb at a short time. So a design that shows fast current response capability or $300[Hz]\sim500[Hz]$ is proposed. in the MIN-MAX PWM technology is used to increase the operational speed. in order to control the blasting position, a precision position control algorithm that utilizes the integral value of speed trajectory is suggested. Also these characteristics are monitored and assessed by the PC based monitoring program which shows the graphs of current, voltage, position, and speed parameters. The main controller is based on a TMS320VC33 high performance floating-point DSP(Digital Signal Process) and the PWM generator utilizes EPM7128 CPLD.

  • Mass resolution of the time of flight aerosol mass spectrometer for an aerosol component analysis depends on the initial direction and the initial energy of the ions. We have found that the shape of the optimum post focusing electric field is not linear. The maximum electric potential should be applied to the ions whose initial direction is 90 degree. To check on the post focusing effects, we have installed a laser ablation mass spectrometer. By using this LA-MS, we have found that the average energy distribution of the laser ablated ions is 8 eV. To establish the optimum mass resolution, a time delay and a high voltage are needed, and the results of the study show that 1500 nsec, and 3.7 kV are the optimum parameters for our system respectively. The isotope mass signals of copper show a good resolution.

Compact Dual-band CPW-fed Slot Antenna Using Split-Ring Resonator (분할 링 공진기를 이용한 소형 이중 대역 CPW-급전 슬롯 안테나)

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact dual-band coplanar waveguide-fed slot antenna using SRR(split-ring resonator) conductor is studied. The SRR conductor is loaded inside a rectangular slot of the proposed antenna for dual-band operation. When the SRR conductor is inserted into the slot, the original rectangular slot is divided into a rectangular loop region and a rectangular slot region, and frequency bands are created by the loop and slot, separately. A prototype of the proposed dual-band slot antenna operating at 2.45 GHz WLAN band and 3.40-5.35 GHz band is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 30 mm by 30 mm. Experiment results show that the antenna has a desired impedance characteristic with a frequency band of 2.38-2.51 GHz and 3.32-5.38 GHz for a voltage standing wave < 2, and measured gain is 1.7 dBi at 2.45 GHz, and it ranges 2.4-3.2 dBi in the second band.

  • Coolant rubber hoses for automotive radiators can degrade under thermal and mechanical loadings and thus fail owing to the influences of locally formed electricity. In this study, an advanced test method was developed to simulate the failure of a rubber hose. The aging behavior of carbon-black-filled ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber used as a radiator hose material under a combination of electrochemical stresses and tensile strain was analyzed. The changing behaviors of the current and the resistance as a function of the aging time were analyzed in consideration of the tensile strain, voltage, and aging temperature. Sectioned specimens clarified the failure mechanisms of the aged skin layer under the combined electrochemical stresses.

  • 본 논문은 광물 탐사를 위한 25kW급 양극성 펄스전원장치에 대해 기술한다. 소프트스위칭 기반의 고효율 LCC 공진형 컨버터와 풀 브리지 기반 양극성 펄스 스위칭부로 구성된 단위 모듈(500V, 12.5A)을 기반으로 설계한다. LCC 공진형 컨버터는 전류의 rms값을 줄이기 위해 공진 전류모양을 사다리꼴 형태로 설계하여 도전 손실측면에서 크게 개선되었고, 높은 전력밀도를 달성하기 위해 변압기의 누설 인덕턴스를 공진 파라메터로 활용한다. 추가적으로, 짧은 펄스폭을 가지도록 설계된 게이트 구동 회로는 출력을 DC에서 8kHz의 넓은 주파수 범위에서 동작시킬 뿐만 아니라 게이트 신호를 전달하기 위한 변압기의 사이즈를 줄이기 위해 제안된다. 단위모듈 형태로 개발된 양극성 펄스전원장치는 4개의 모듈이 직병렬로 결선되어 부하조건에 따라 Grounded dipole mode (2kV, 12.5A) 또는 Loop mode (500V, 50A)로 동작한다. 4모듈 직병렬 운전 시 발생하는 모듈 간 전압 불균형 문제를 해결하기 위해 메인 변압기에 보상권선이 감긴다. 본 논문에서는 개발된 양극성 펄스전원 장치의 설계를 저항부하 실험 및 태백산 탐사시험 결과를 바탕으로 검증한다.

  • Conventional eddy current testing has been used for the detection of the defect-like fatigue crack in the conductive materials, such as aluminum, which uses a sinusoidal signal with very narrow frequency bandwidth, Whereas, the pulsed eddy current method uses a pulse signal with a broad bandwidth. This can allow multi-frequency eddy current testing, and the penetration depth is greater than that of the conventional eddy current testing. In this work, a pulsed eddy current instrument was developed for evaluating the metal loss. The developed instrument was composed of the pulse generator generating the maximum square pulse voltage of 40V, an amplifier controlled up to 52dB, an A/D converter of 16 bit and the sampling frequency of 20 MHz, and an industrial personal computer operated by the Windows program. A pulsed eddy current probe was designed as a pancake type in which the sensing roil was located inside the driving roil. The output signals of the sensing roil increased rapidly wich the step pulse driving voltage かn off, and the latter part of the sensing coil output voltage decreased exponentially with time. The decrement value of the output signals increased as the thickness of the aluminum test piece increased.

A Study on Operation Method of Protection Device for LVDC Distribution Feeder in Light Rail System (경전철용 LVDC 배전계통의 보호기기 운용 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, when a fault occurs at a long-distance point in a LVDC (low voltage direct current) distribution feeder in a light rail system, the magnitude of the current can decrease to less than that of the load current of a light rail system. Therefore, proper protection coordination method to distinguish a fault current from a load current is required. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes an optimal algorithm of protection devices for a LVDC distribution feeder in a light rail system. In other words, based on the characteristics of the fault current for ground resistance and fault location, this paper proposes an optimal operation algorithm of a selective relay to properly identify the fault current compared to the load current in a light rail system. In addition, this paper modelled the distribution system including AC/DC converter using a PSCAD/EMTDC S/W and from the simulation results for a real light rail system, the proposed algorithm was found to be a useful and practical tool to correctly identify the fault current and load current.

  • We herein investigate the E1 pulse for evaluating the conducted performance of transmission lines connected to the electromagnetic pulse protection facilities against a conducted high-altitude electromagnetic pulse threat exposed to an external electromagnetic environment. The existing E1 pulse generator uses the Marx generator high-voltage step-up method; however, in this research, we used the Tesla transformer method to easily change the broadband output voltage(30 to 350 kV). We also analyzed the controller, power supply, high-voltage booster, and pulse-shaping device. The E1 pulse performance using the Tesla transformer was predicted through simulations and validated by measurements.
