Transmission Line Parameter Extraction and Signal Integrity Verification of VLSI Interconnects Under Silicon Substrate Effect (실리콘 기판 효과를 고려한 VLSI 인터컨넥트의 전송선 파라미터 추출 및 시그널 인테그러티 검증)

  • A new silicon-based IC interconnect transmission line parameter extraction methodology is presented and experimentally examined. Unlike the PCB or MCM interconnects, a dominant energy propagation mode in the silicon-based IC interconnects is not quasi-TEM but slow wave mode(SWM). The transmission line parameters are extracted taking the silicon substrate effect (i.e., slow wave mode) into account. The capacitances are calculated considering silicon substrate surface as a ground. Whereas the inductances are calculated by using an effective dielectric constant. In order to verify the proposed method, test patterns were designed. Experimental data have agreement within 10%. Further, crosstalk noise simulation shows excellent agreements with the measurements which are performed with high-speed time domain measurement ( i.e., TDR/TDT measurements) for test pattern, while RC model or RLC model without silicon substrate effect show about 20~25% underestimation error.

FDTD Analysis of Lossy Multiconductor Transmission Lines Terminated in Linear Loads (선형소자로 종단된 손실이 있는 다중 전송선의 FDTD 해석)

  • Multiconductor transmission line(MTL) equations are solved by FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method to predict crosstalk and fields to transmission line coupling on lossy multiconductor transmission lines terminated in arbitrary linear loads. Skin effect losses as well as dc losses are included in the analysis. In order to increase computational efficiency, the convolution integral of internal impedance of conductors and the line currents is computed by using Prony method. For boundary conditions of MTLs terminated in linear loads, state-variable formulation is adopted. The simulated results by FDTD method are compared with the measured ones obtained by using TEM cell. The predictions are in good agreement with the measurements. In addition, it has been found that skin effect losses as well as dc losses of the conductors should be included for accurate predictions on relatively high loss transmission lines such as PCB. It has also been found that dc losses and skin-effect losses affect late-time responses and early-time responses, respectively.

  • This paper proposed a dual-band RF switch using a Composite Right/Left Handed transmission line(CRLH TL) and PIN diode. RF switch is usually consist of $\lambda/4$ Right Handed transmission line(RH TL) and PIN diode. The dual band characteristics of RF switch was achieved by using CRLH transmission line instead of RH transmission line. CRLH Open-Stub was designed for resolve to reduction of isolation due to Package Inductance of PIN diode. The proposed RF switch was designed at GSM and DCS frequency-band. The measurement results showed a good agreement with theoretical result.

  • 고전압 기기의 절연물 내부에서 부분방전 현상이 발생되면 절연파괴로 진전된다. 회전기기가 운전중인 상태에서 on-line 부분방전시험은 고정자 권선의 절연상태를 검사, 평가 할 수 있는 중요한 수단으로서 이러한 부분방전시험을 통하여 회전기기 시스템의 사고예방을 위한 진단을 할 수 있다. 부분방전 펄스는 10MHz $\sim$ 1GHz의 대역폭을 갖는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 이러한 고주파 대역의 전자파 에너지의 효과적인 검출을 위한 센서 중 하나로 웨이브가이드 구조의 고주파 검출센서가 존재한다. 기존의 전자기적 에너지를 검출하는 SSC (Stator Slot Coupler)센서를 한쪽 포트를 가지는 마이크로스트립센서 형태로 사용할 경우 접지면이 도체전체로 씌워져 있고 임피던스 정합을 위한 50옴의 칩저항이 신호라인과 접지사이 루프를 형성하여 기기 운전시 기기의 성능에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이 단점을 보완하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 회전기내 부분방전 펄스의 전자기적 에너지를 검출할 수 있는 2선 평행 전송선로 라인을 응용한 부분방전 검출 센서를 제안하였고 시뮬레이션을 통해 성능을 입증하였다. 제안된 센서의 성능을 입증하기 위하여 2선 평행 전송선로 타입의 센서와 기존의 SSC (Stator Slot Coupler) 센서를 약간 변형시킨 마이크로 스트립 센서를 고정자 슬롯의 Wedge 부착한 후 두 센서 비교 분석하였다. 결과적으로 제안된 센서는 기존 SSC 타입의 마이크로스트립 센서에 비하여 더 간단한 형상을 가지며 운전 중 기기의 성능에 영향을 덜 미치는 효과를 얻을 수 있었다.

X-선 검출기의 신호처리회로 설계

  • 과학로케트에 탑재되는 x-선 검출기에서 검출되는 2 kev 에서 10 kev 사이의 x-선 신호를 분석하여 데이터를 얻고, 전송하기 위한 피로를 설계하고 제작하였다. 신호처리회로의 전체적인 구성은 2 - 10 key의 x-선 에너지 및 event time을 측정하는 회로 및8-선 계수율을 측정하기 위한 카운터회로를 위주로 설계하였으며, x-선 event의 에너지가 측정에너지를 벗어나거나 상승시간이 긴 신호는 anti-coincidence 회로를 통하여 제거되고, 그 계수율이 기록되도록 설계 제작되었다. 또한 신호처리회로에서 얻은 데이터는 telemetry를 통하여 serial 형태로 전송되어야 하므로 8086 microprocessor를 이용하여 데이터를 획득하고 전송하도록 하였다. 따라서 본 실험에서 제작된 신호처리회로의 기능 및 특성에 대해 논하고자 한다.

  • This paper presents a PUF circuit based on the randomness of crosstalk magnitudes in adjacent transmission lines. Conventional PUF circuitry suffers the reliability problem where a consistent output value is not guaranteed due to environmental changes, such as power supply voltage and operating temperature. The proposed circuit consists of three transmission lines. The crosstalk difference between two transmission line pairs can be arbitrary. The proposed circuit compares the crosstalk differences between two transmission line pairs, and yields consistent responses. The crosstalk differences are immune to operating environment changes. The proposed PUF circuit provides with reliable responses for given challenges. It can be utilized by security systems such as authentication and encryption.

  • In this study, a short-wavelength transmission line employing periodically arrayed capacitive devices (PACD) was studied for application to miniaturized on-chip passive component on monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC). The transmission line employing PACD showed shorter wavelength and lower characteristic impedance than conventional microstrip transmission line. The wavelength transmission line employing PACD structure was 8% of the conventional microstrip transmission line on GaAs substrate. Using the theoretical analysis, basic characteristic of the transmission line employing PACD (e.g., loss, effective dielectric constant, effective propagation constant, bandwidth ) were also investigated in order to evaluate its suitability for application to a development of miniaturized passive on-chip components on MMIC. Above results indicate that the transmission line employing PACD is a promising candidate for a development of miniaturized passive components on MMIC.

  • In this paper, short-wavelength transmission line employing periodically arrayed capacitive devices (PACD) structures were developed for application to a development of miniaturized on-chip passive components on GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC). The transmission line employing PACD structure showed a wavelength much shorter than conventional microstrip line. Concretely, the wavelength of the transmission line employing PACD structure was 8 % of the conventional microstrip line on GaAs substrate at 5GHz. And It was 38% of the microstrip line employing PPGM at 5GHz. It was recognized that the basic characteristics of the transmission line employing PACD structure were investigated for application to the miniaturized passive on-chip components.

High-frequency characteristics of short-wavelength transmission line on polyether sulfone thin film for a realization of transparent flexible wireless communication device (투명 플렉시블 무선통신 소자구현을 위한 PES 박막상의 단파장 선로에 대한 고주파 특성연구)

  • This work presents an investigation of the radio frequency characteristics of an FTLPGS (fishbone-type transmission line employing periodic ground structure) fabricated on PES (polyether sulfone) for the realization of a transparent flexible wireless communication device. According to the results, the FTLPGS on PES showed a shorter wavelength characteristic when compared with a conventional coplanar waveguide. Concretely, the wavelength of the FTLPGS was 1.91 mm at 50 GHz, which was 48.5% of the conventional coplanar waveguide. The bandwidth extraction result showed that the passband of the FTLPGS on PES was 250 GHz. Unlike conventional periodic structures, the characteristic impedance of the FTLPGS on PES also showed a very low frequency dependency. A miniaturization of the RF circuit on the PES substrate was made possible by the FTLPGS on PES having shown characteristic impedance lower than that of conventional transmission lines. These results mean that, with a broadband operation frequency, the FTLPGS on PES is a suitable construction application for the transmission line and distributed passive components.

  • By using an equivalent network based on Floquet's theorem and bisection principle, the optical properties of planar DFB guiding structure are evaluated. The optical parameters, such as Bragg condition and the reflectivity as a function of grating period, are numerically calculated. The numerical results reveal that this method offers a simple and convenient algorithm to analyze the optical characteristics of DFB configurations.
