  • The flows through a turbomachinery tend to be extremely complex due to its inherent unsteady and viscous phenomena. A good analysis of the flows associated with rotor/stator interactions in turbomachinery will be great help in design stage. In this investigation, unsteady viscous flow structurts through one and half stage of UTRC large scale rotating axial turbine are analysed. The numerical data was compared with experimental data and showed good agreement.

  • A non-dissipative and very accurate one-dimensional upwind leapfrog method is extended to higher-order and multi-dimensional advection and acoustic equations. The higher-order versions are developed by extending the stencils in space and time. The schemes are then successfully applied to the classical test cases for advection and acoustics.

  • In the present study a mesh generation program has been developed by using DXF file. The program consists of DXF file reading and mapping algorithm, which projects the 2-D mesh point onto the triangular surface constructed by nearest three points. The present program has been tested for mesh generations for the road tunnel ventilation analysis and analysis of lava movement in mountain area.

  • Numerical analysis of a gaseous jet submerged in a liquid environment was carried out using the volume of fluid(VOF) method to simulate the kinematics of the gas-liquid interface. Two nozzle geometries were tested, one for Fanno tube and the other for converging diverging nozzle. Commercial code was used for the present calculation. Transient behavior of a gaseous jet since its start showed periodic nature of the jet, which was also observed in previous measurements.

  • For windshield defrosting, flow analysis of inner room(vehicle) and heat conduction on the windshield surface are undertaken. Simulation for defrosting enthalpy method is usedand verification of heat and fluid flow analysis for room is done in cavity flow. The defrosting process is three dimensional phenomena and phase is changing. The result of defrosting analysis are well presenting the phase change and these results offer basic design data for defrosting phenomena.

  • Characteristics of high temperature rocket nozzle flow is discussed along with the aspects of computational analysis. Three methods of nozzle flow analysis, frozen-equilibrium, shifting-equilibrium and non-equilibrium approaches, were discussed those were coupled with the methods of computational fluid dynamics. A chemical equilibrium code developed for the analysis of general hydrocarbon fuel was coupled with three approaches of nozzle flow analysis, and a test was made for a bell nozzle at typical operation condition. As a results, the characteristics of the approaches were discussed in aspects of rocket performance, thermal analysis and computational efficiency.

  • In the present study a mesh generation program is developed for three dimensional flow analyses with complex geometry. By the present program one can define vertices using various coordinate systems and cells for finite volume approach. Rendered display of the generated mesh can be also available in both orthographic and perspective projection modes. Through perspective projection mode, one can check the quality of generated mesh by moving around inside the mesh like a virtual reality. The examples of the program execution is given in the paper.

  • Flow computations have been conducted to study the impingement flowfield over the KSR-III flume deflector To validate Euler solver for the jet impingement flowfieid, the jet flow over a double wedge deflector have been calculated and showed reasonable agreement with experimental data. The transient flow behavior of flume over deflector have been investigated and the flume from the rocket nozzle proved to be getting out of the deflector safely and the thermal effect on the base region of rocket was not considerable.

  • A Thin-layer Wavier-Stokes equations are applied for the hypersonic flow over blunt bodies with applications to laminar as well as turbulent flows. The equations are expressed in the forms of flux-vector splitting and explicit algorithm. The upwind schemes of Steger-Warming and Van Leer are investigated to predict accurately the heating loads along the surface of the body. A mixed scheme has been presented for the differencing the convective terms and the mixed scheme is found to be less dissipative producing accurate solutions.

  • Pressure-flow control characteristics of a commercially available cerebrospinal flow(CSF) control shunt valve was tested using fluid-solid interaction analysis. Pre-stress of the valve diaphragm(membrane) was computed for proper valve opening. The results were ir good agreements with the valve specification listed in the commercially available CSF control valve. The results of the study can be effectively used to design variety of CSF control shunt valves.
