A Study on the Problems and Development Plan of Statistics in Special Library (전문도서관 통계의 문제점과 발전방안에 관한 연구)

  • Using the data shown in the national library statistics system, we tried to identify the current situation from various angles and derive problems, and based on this, we tried to find a development plan. First, it is necessary to conduct a thorough survey to know the statistics of Special library. Second, some degree of unification of the names used in Special libraries should be achieved. Third, it is necessary to present the subject classification for Special libraries. Fourth, it is necessary to actively promote and incentive Special libraries to participate in statistical surveys. Fifth, it is necessary to solve the problem that Special libraries are classified into other statistics. Sixth, statistics of national and large Special libraries such as the Court Library, Constitutional Court Library, and Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information cannot be found anywhere. Unless these problems are solved, the overall evaluation of Special libraries and policy proposals at the national level will be meaningless.

A Study on Issues and Policy Proposals of Specialized Libraries (전문도서관의 이슈와 정책제안에 관한 연구)

  • This study tried to suggest the revitalization plans for specialized libraries by referring to various issues regarding specialized libraries in the sense that the issue of specialized libraries can soon become an opportunity for the development of specialized libraries. Through literature analysis, problems and issues related to specialized libraries were derived, and the perception of librarians was investigated through surveys. The policy directions presented based on the results are as follows. First, the 'Library Development Plan' should strengthen the part related to the specialized library development plan. Second, topic maps for specialized libraries in Korea are needed.(Second, the topic map for specialized libraries in Korea is needed.) Third, it is also necessary to operate to configure multiple councils based on the distinction between the specialized library. Fourth, an analysis of the duties of specialized library librarians should be made. Fifth, professional information services that specialized libraries can perform need to be developed. Sixth, among the information resources owned by specialized libraries, it is necessary to find ways to establish and jointly utilize information resources that are valuable and shareable as national resources. Seventh, specialized libraries should allow every library to participate in library evaluation, and make improvement plans for specialized libraries based on the collected data. Eighth, it is also necessary to publish a collection of best practices for specialized libraries.

An Analysis on Current Status of and Perception of Subject Specialized Services in Korean Special Libraries (전문도서관의 주제전문서비스 운영 현황과 사서의 인식 분석)

  • Recently, subject specialized service has been suggested as a solution to overcome a difficulty of library management and to meet the quickly changing needs of library users. Introduction of subject specialized service is raised to be introduced to special libraries and efficient management system is required. However, systematic study on the subject specialized service is very rare. This study investigates and analyzes how subject specialized service is operated in korean special libraries and how subject specialist librarians recognize them. In order to analyzes and investigate, 8 special libraries was selected to survey general management of subject specialized service, recruitment and training issues of subject specialist librarian, their duties and overall evaluation and problem of subject specialized service. Finally the study attempts to suggest development strategies in order to improve subject specialized service in special libraries.

A Study on Developing Specialized Textbook Libraries for the Benefit of Research and Education (교육·연구의 활성화를 위한 교과서전문도서관 발전방향 모색에 관한 연구)

  • The specialized textbook library provides resources for textbook publishers and textbook development professionals as well as others in related fields who are committed to the educational development of our country. The textbook library also supports research and education among the faculty and students. But, when examining the reality of the textbook specialized library, analysis concludes that it faces various problems such as state-supported operating budget shortfalls, weakness of public infrastructure, difficulty in collection of textbook-related data, and lack of inter-linked library systems. Thus, this study determined the development direction of the textbook specialized library through the process of literature analysis, case studies, and reflection of expert opinions. In this study, a long-term policy direction of the building and operating of textbook specialized libraries has been proposed as follows: organizing and operating a textbook specialized library, collecting and creating a list of textbook-related information resources, creating information strategy, and constructing specialized content for the textbook specialized library.

  • 대학도서관 사서는 이용자에게 신속한 지식정보를 제공하고 변화하는 교육환경에 신속하게 적용하고 정보욕구를 충족시키고 조직을 발전시키기 위하여 도서관의 기본요소 항목인 사서확보와 장서확충 및 예산과 시설이 잘 갖추어 지도록 노려해야 할 것이다. 그 중에서 대학도서관이 가지는 다양한 기능과 목표를 달성하기 위해서는 도서관에 근무하는 사서의 역할이 중요하다. 왜냐하면 사서의 직무수행이 이용자에 대한 정보서비스의 품질과 밀접하기 때문이다. 특히 전문대학은 설립기관이나 교육목표에 따라 차이는 있을 수 있지만 전문인력을 양성하는 기관으로 인식되는 것은 같다. 하지만 4년제 대학에 비하여 봉사대상은 비슷한 수준임에도 불구하고 상대적으로 기준, 시설, 예산면에서 열악한 전문대학 사서의 현실과 현황을 비교해 보고 사서 구성원을 검토함으로써 전문대학만이 가지는 문제점을 파악하고 전문대학 도서관 사서도 전문직으로서 자부심을 가짐으로써 열악한 전문대학 현실에 대응할 수 있는 대처방안을 모색해 보고자 한다.

A Study on the Analysis of Factors Affecting the Development of Specialized Libraries (전문도서관 발전에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a survey was conducted targeting specialized librarians, and the impact on the work area according to changes in the internal and external environment and policy support measures was analyzed. In this study, we tried to derive factors that affect library development and policy suggestions accordingly. As a result of the study, first, it was confirmed that 58.3% of the negative opinions in terms of the importance of library development plans were positive in recognition of the role of library status within individual institutions. Second, in order to increase the status of specialized libraries, it was found that awareness of academic research activities was necessary by recognizing the importance of major functions and roles. Third, among the comprehensive library development plans, the recognition of specialized libraries and operational evaluation was the highest in recognition of the expansion of national public information services to the public. In addition, it was confirmed that among the five-year development strategies, the policy that should be implemented first is the preference for updating the status of specialized libraries and establishing a system for investigation. Fourth, as a result of analyzing effective alternatives and improvement indicators to increase the participation rate in library operation evaluation, the weighting of the "institutional library operation evaluation" item in the evaluation item of public enterprises was the highest at 4.01 on average. Therefore, for the development of specialized libraries, it was recognized as the most urgent task to establish a system that can comprehensively grasp the current status of specialized libraries as well as active academic research and support them.

An Study of Operational Strategy for Special Libraries on Social Network Service (SNS) (전문도서관의 소셜네트워크서비스 운영방안 연구 - 해양과학도서관 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study proposes a customized SNS operational strategy for special libraries based on a case study on the Ocean Science Library (OSL) of South Korea. The study conducted an in-depth analysis on an organizational structure, manpower, contents, and promotion. The outcome of SNS operational strategy deducted from this study can be categorized into several items, including: (1) a selection of an appropriate SNS channel, which meets the objective of the operation; (2) a formal division of works for SNS operation; (3) a designation of full-time managers and an establishment of a task force team; (4) a specialization of contents according to specific subjects; (5) on/off-line promotions focused on events, which encourage participations; (6) an improvement of contents through regular log analyses; and (7) a promotion of library website access through SNS, and so on. This research also suggested the strategies for the development of SNS operation: strengthening of communication and cooperation among librarians; distribution of academic and research outcomes of the umbrella organization; enhancement of a role as a communication channel between librarians and users, and carry out a role as a 'social curator.'

Design for Creating Full-Text Database of Korean Dissertation (대학도서관의 학위논문 전문DB구축방안)

  • The purpose of this study is to design the solution for creating full-text database of Korean dissertaion, After considering file formats for text based and image based database, Viewer, Search, Copy Right, Abstracts and Indexes, situation of Korea University Library, decided the principles of creating database. And suggested the design to produce the database for Korea University Library, that is easy to get file format conversion in case of the introducing new technology for the future.

A Study on Improving the Evaluation Standard for the Law School : Focusing on the Evaluation Clauses of Law School Library (법학전문대학원 평가기준 개선에 관한 연구 - 법학전문도서관 평가조항을 중심으로 -)

  • The evaluation of the law schools, which had been launched for the purpose of training the lawyers to settle the legal disputes professionally and effectively, had been done on paper and on site from September through October 2012. Based on not only the basic materials for the evaluation such as evaluation standard, manual, and questionnaire but also the problems revealed during the evaluation, this study intended to show the problems of the evaluation clauses of the law school library which is the basis for the professionalism and diversity of law education and suggest the remedies for them. This study shows that the evaluation clauses need to be made considering the scale of each law school rather than suggesting the same quantitative standard in every law school and to be more specific rather than abstract. Especially, to manage the law school library efficiently from now on, it is necessary to plan and practice the idea of developing such as the specialization and to prepare the idea of operating the law school library through the law school members. Additionally, it is desirable that the chapter of the library exists separately and the library facilities are evaluated together with the other school facilities. Lastly, it is necessary to suggest the appropriate model as the norm to each school according to the school scale.
