Connecting Research and Practice: Teaching for Robust Understanding of Mathematics Framework in a Korean Mathematics Classroom Context (수학 교사교육 연구와 실천과제: 효과적인 수학 수업의 다섯 가지 필수 측면 프레임으로 분석한 고등학교 수열 단원 수업과 교사 전문성 신장에 대한 소고)

  • This article reviews several classroom observational frameworks and introduces one of them, Teaching for Robust Understanding of Mathematics (TRU Math) framework, in more detail. The TRU Math framework has unique features, especially of which it helps researchers and practitioners analyze lessons with a focus on opportunities to learn and on how students access to the learning opportunities in mathematics classrooms rather than focusing on teacher behaviors. In this article, using this TRU Math framework, a Korean high school mathematics lesson was analyzed. The analysis illustrates the aspects of good mathematics teaching according to the five dimensions that we theorized. It provides implications on how to better use the tool for both research and practice in Korean school culture and teacher professional development contexts.

The Measures to Improve the Professionalism of Geography Teachers: Focusing on Teaching and Learning (지리교사 전문성 제고 방안: 교수.학습 측면을 중심으로)

  • This study has shown that geography teachers need the professionalism in a Teaching and learning aspect. Together with the transition of epistemology and the operation of the Subject Matter-based curriculum, etc the demand for professionalism of teachers is much higher than ever. But the less discussion about what the professionalism of geography teachers based on subject traits and its components are has been mentioned. Especially the previous studies related with geography teachers usually distinguished the contents from the methods in the geography teaching in a dichotomy and tried to apply to a class model in the theoretical aspects, so they $didn't^{\circ}{\varnothing}t$ present the enough measures to improve the professionalism of geography teachers in the synthetic aspects. In this study, after I found the components of professionalism required to geography teachers in a teaching and learning, I tried to present measures to improve the professionalism of geography leathers in the macroscopic aspects. The geography teacher should be a teacher to design a region as a process than a result, and a teacher as a reflective practitioner than a technical practitioner. The improvement of professionalism should be achieved through the process of cooperation with an educational reflection in the individual aspects.

A Study on the Analysis of Variables Affecting Teacher Librarians' Practice Teaching in Korea (사서교사 교유실습의 영향요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an effective development of teacher librarians' practice teaching and to identify how much teacher librarians' practice teaching affects their expertise in Korea. For this, two research models are constructed. The first model is to analyze the relationship of variables between the effect of practice teaching and the following variables: pretraining, practice program, advisory teacher, training condition and organizational atmosphere. The second model is to analyze how much the practice teaching affects their role perception and expertise compared with training courses and field experiences. The result is as follow: It is the training program that greatly affects teacher librarians' practice teaching among those variables. And the practice teaching has a positive effect on the ability of role performance. According to the above result, the practice teaching is effective in developing teacher librarians' expertise. And more systematic practice teaching program, enough pretraining and the efforts of advisory teacher are necessary to enhance the effect of teacher librarians' practice teaching.

Teachers' Perception on Improving the Professionalism by Participating in Elementary School Science Teachers' Study Group (초등과학교사연구회 활동이 교사 전문성에 미치는 영향에 대한 교사의 인식)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how the activity in the elementary school science teachers' study group help teachers improve their professionalism and what the motivation was for the continuous participation by analyzing the operation system of study group and the teachers' perception. For this study, the N Elementary Science Teachers' Study Group in Gyeong-gi province was chosen, which has been maintained for a long time. Data such as observation journals, contents of activities, and some documents from this study group were collected through the participant observation methodology, and the perceptions about the participating motivation, the personal satisfaction and the impact on the professionalism were investigated by interviewing 5 teachers who participating in this study group. The results of this study were as follows: First, voluntary participation activated the teachers' study group, so teachers who belong to the study group, had a great satisfaction in the activities of the study group. Second, the more teachers participated in study group, they thought their professionalism has been improved. Based on the result of this study, implications to improve the professionalism of teachers were suggested.

  • In this paper we analyze creative mathematical competition for Russian mathematics teachers, and try to find out some suggestions for developing mathematics teacher's professional abilities. For these purposes we analyze problems and result data on the creative mathematical competition(for example, mean, distribution, reliability, discrimination, difficulty), and extract some meanings related with expanding teacher's professional abilities and activating studies related with mathematical pedagogy.

Professional Development of Prospective Elementary School Teachers by the Analysis of Mathematical Tasks (수학 과제 분석을 통한 예비 초등 교사의 전문성 신장)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore how pre-service elementary school teachers participate in a course specifically designed to help them learn how to analyze instruction in terms of the levels of cognitive demand of mathematical tasks. This paper describes what prospective teachers learned while reading the cases of "implementing standards-based mathematics instruction", analyzing all tasks of one unit in one elementary mathematics textbook, observing master teachers' mathematics instruction as well as their colleagues during the practicum period, and developing their own cases on the basis of the design and implementation of instruction focused on mathematical tasks. This paper includes various reflections of the prospective teachers.

  • It is very essential to recruit professional teachers for Gifted Education because the main goals of this school are focusing on the highly advanced technical science fields, enhancing self study and research environment which leads to develop self-directed learning and creative learning. The purpose of this study is to improve of the current Gifted Education Action Law For Teacher Recruitment in Gifted Education. The results of this study are follows; 1. Establishment of Standards for Teachers' Qualification in Gifted Education To recruit professional teachers, they are studied to use the current Gifted Education Action Law and to converse the legal position of Busan Science Academy 2. Developing Professionalism and Improving Conditions of Employment To gualify for Gifted Education, it is necessary to developing professionalism and improving conditions of employment. To provide long-term training and a sabbatical year for research. To make able teachers teach in a school longer than other teachers if teachers agree to it. To pay research funds for teachers for gifted education. To give advantage for gifted teachers in promotion. As the result of study, it has been systemized the standards of recruiting qualified teachers of the Science School for Gifted, has been proposed the ways of developing specialty of teachers and working conditions.
