  • In this paper, the FPGA-based SoC board (Xilinx Virtex-4 ML401 EVM) is adopted to control electrical power inverter system. For marine application, its performance is shown on PC-based system for monitoring electrical characteristics of a power inverter using by the NMEA 2000 protocol. This power inverter system is achieved in Real-Time monitoring and control by dual micro-processor operation on embedded FPGA-based SoC board. One micro processor is for control (Control processor) electrical power inverter using by PWM signal. And the other microprocessor (Communication processor) is for communication with PC-based monitoring system. The two-processor is communicating each other using by dual-port ram (DPRAM). PC-based system user can control and monitor information of the electrical power inverter via NMEA 2000 based communication processor. Control and monitoring information includes the inverter status and configuration. SoC board converts this information to Parameter Group Numbers (PGNs) in the NMEA 2000 protocol. This system can be applied to marine power electronics for distributed power generation, transmission or regulation systems on the ship.

  • This paper develops power measurement system with multiple sensor input channels (voltage-8 channels and current-10 channels) that simultaneously can monitor power components for both supply and load side of power system. The hardware implementation of the proposed system is based on TMS320C42 DSP and signal processing program algorithm to calculate power components use the definition of IEEE Standard 1459-2010 related power quality. The performance of the developed system is tested by using standard ac power source device, and the test results showed that accuracy of the developed system is less than 0.2 %. Also, field test of the proposed system in the three-phase and four-wire power system was implemented. Simultaneous multiple channel measurement and analysis of power components in commercial and industrial electrical power system using the proposed system will be necessary to reduce power quality problems.

  • Power system stabilizer act efficiently to damp the electromechanical oscillations in interconnected power systems. This paper presents an algorithm for the optimal parameter selection of a power system stabilizer in two-area power systems with a series HVDC link. This method is one of the classical techniques by allocating properly pole-zero positions to fit as closely as desired the ideal phase lead between the voltage reference and the generator electrical power and by changing the gain to produce a necessary damping torque over the matched frequency range. The small signal stability and transient stability studies using the PSS parameters obtained from this method show that a natural oscillation frequency of the study case system is adequately damped. The simulation used in the paper was performed by the Power System Toolbox software program based on MATLAB.

  • Ths paper deals with the active and reactive power control of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) during its interconnection operation to power distribution system When an interconnection operation of BESS to power distribution system, it is well suited for peak load shaving and distribution voltage compensation by controlling the real and reactive power. Equivalent mxiel of the distribution system and the BESS is derived and power flow equations are presented to control the real and reactive power of BESS. In this paper, to control the active and reactive power of BESS, $P-\delta$ and Q-V control method and ntJIrerical description is presented. To verify the proposed control method, using PSCAD/EMTDC program simulates the active and reactive power control of BESS.f BESS.

  • This paper describes the system configuration and measured performances of a wireless power transmission system which utilizes microwave. The technically final target of this system is to provide DC power to various mobile terminals within limited spaces such as buildings, conference rooms, and so on. The prototype system is built using in-house designed and fabricated circuits such as microwave oscillator, high power amplifier, microstrip patch antenna, low pass filter, and detector/rectifier. The fixed RF power of 29.3dBm at 2.4GHz is produced from the high power amplifier and transmitted through the transmitting antenna, while the received RF power at the receiving antenna is transformed into DC power through the detector/rectifier. The measured change of DC voltage according to the distance between transmitting and receiving antenna is described.

  • This paper proposes low price power component measurement and record system for preventing electrical safety accident and supporting accident cause analysis by periodically monitoring and recording the operation status of electrical equipments. The proposed system was designed by mainly using parts to measure accurate power component but reduce cost. Especially, low cost and high effectiveness system implementation was possible by using MAXIM 78M6631 to calculate power components in the definition of IEEE Standard 1459-2010 related power quality. The measurement performance of the developed system is tested by using standard devices such as YOKOGAWA power analyzer WT1600. The test results showed that accuracy of the developed system is less than 0.5 % and the developed system is tested in a real area to verify the operation reliability and remote monitoring performance of the system over 6 months.

  • The main purpose of reactive power compensation monitoring system is to manage factory electrical installation efficiently by On-Off switching reactive power compensation equipment. The existing reactive power compensation monitoring system is only able to be managed by operator whenever electrical installation needed reactive power. Therefore, it may be possible for propagating the installation's faults when operator make the unexpected mistakes. To overcome the unexpected mistakes, in this paper, the author presents a reactive power compensation monitoring system for factory electrical installation using active database. by using active database production rule, stated system can minimize unexpected mistake and can operate centralized monitoring system efficiently. Test results on the five factory electrical installations show that performance is efficient and robust.
