In this paper, a shear-flexible finite element model is developed for the buckling analysis of axially loaded, thin-walled composite I-beams. Based on an orthogonal Cartesian coordinate system, the displacement fields are defined using the first-order shear-deformable beam theory. The derived element takes into account flexural shear deformation and torsional warping deformation. Three different types of beam elements, namely, the two-noded, three-noded, and four-noded beam elements, were developed to solve the governing equations. An inverse iteration with shift eigenvalue solution was used to solve the resulting linearized buckling problem. A parametric study was conducted to show the importance of shear flexibility and fiber orientation on the buckling behavior of thin-walled composite beams. A good agreement was obtained among the proposed shear-flexible model, other results available in literature, and the finite element solution.

This study was carried out in order to compare nail shear strength between domestic plywood and imported OSB for structural sheathing members as infill wall of wooden construction. The differences of nail shear strength between parallel-to-grain direction and perpendicular-to-grain direction of sheathing material to frame material were distinct at the plywood composition. The shear strengths of plywood and OSB with nail met current design values. The plywood of P-4 type, which uses MLH at surface layer and constructs 7 ply, showed greater than OSB regardless of grain direction of sheathing material to frame material. When the plywood as sheathing material to frame material was used, it was found out that the overall construction of perpendicular-to-grain direction of plywood had greater nail shear strengths than the construction of parallel-to-grain.

Dynamic stress intensity factors are derives when the crack is propagating with constant velocity under longitudinal shear stress in orthotropic disk plate. General stress fields of crack tip propagating with constant velocity and least square method are used to obtain the dynamic stress intensity factor. The dynamic stress intensity factors of GLV/GTV=1(=isotropic material or transversely isotropic material) which is obtained in out study nearly coincides with Chiang's results when mode Ⅲ stress is applied to boundary of isotropic disk. The D.S.I.F. of mode Ⅲ stress is greater when α(=angle of crack propagation direction with fiber direction) is 90° than that when α is 0°. In case of a/D(a:crack length, D:disk diameter)<0. 58, the faster crack propagation velocity, the less D.S.I.F. but when crack propagation velocity arrive on ghear stress wave velocity, the D.S.I.F. but when crack propagation velocity arrive on shear stress wave velocity, the D.S.I.F. unexpectedly increases and decreases to zero.
Many of the bridge systems, including the girders and cross-beams, and concrete decks behave as the special orthotropic plates. Such systems with boundary conditions other than Navier or Levy solution types, or with irregular cross sections, analytical solution is very difficult to obtain. Numerical method for eigenvalue problems are also very much involved in seeking such a solution. A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beam and tower structures with irregular cross-sections was developed and reported by Kim in 1974. Recently, this method was extended to two dimensional problems including composite laminates, and has been applied to composite plates with shear deformation effects. In this paper, application of this method to the specially orthotropic laminated plates with various boundary condition is accomplished and the result of analysis is presented.
2 ply laminated composite is regarded to simulate the interply behavior of the belt layer of the tire. It was cone with 3 dimensional FE(Finite Element) analysis to determine interply shear stress and strain. Widthwise, the shear strain was measured by the pin method. These results are compared with those of CLT(classical lamination theory) in center region and those of Kassapoglou's and Kelsey's theory in edge region. In the FE analysis. rubber is assumed as linear elastic material. and rubber/cord laminate as the orthotropic material composed of cord and rubber In the FE result, interlaminar shear stress causing the interlaminar delamination has the largest value in the edge region of the inner rubber layer. Numerical results obtained coincides with CLT well in the center region, and agrees with other theoretical result little in the edge region.

The various composite materials have been developed with the development of high strength material and the increasement of composite material usage. Therefore many researchers have studied about the stress analysis and the fracture mechanics for composite materials through the experiment or the theory. Among the experimental methods, the photoelastic experiments have been used for the stress analysis of the isotropic structures or the anisotropic structures. To analyze the stresses in the orthotropic material with photoelastic experiment, the basic physical properties ( $E_{L}$, $E_{T}$, $G_{LT}$ , .nu.$_{LT}$ ) and the basic stress fringe values ( $f_{L}$, $f_{T}$, $f_{LT}$ )are needed, therefore the relationships between the basic physical properties and the stress fringe values were derived in this paper. When the stress fringe value is very large, it was assured by the experiment that the relationships are established both in the room temperature and in the high temperature (T = 130.deg. C). Therefore the basic physical properties can be obtained from the relationships by measuring stress fringe values instead of measuring the basic physical properties.rties.
In the Jirisan area of the Yeongnam Massif, Korea, several ductile shear zones are developed within Precambrian gneiss complex (Jirisan metamorphic rock complex). The ductile shear zones have a general NS- and NNE-striking foliation with westward dipping directions. The foliation developed in the shear zones cut the foliation in gneiss complex. The stretching lineations are well developed in the foliated plane of the shear zone, showing ENE-trend with gentle plunging angle to the ESE direction. Within shear zone, several millimetric to centimetric size of porphyroclasts are deformed strongly as a sigmoid form by ductile shearing. The sigmoid patterns of porphyroclasts in the shear zones indicate the dextral shearing. The spatial distribution of ductile shear zone is characterized by the dominant NS- and NNE-striking dextral sense in the central and eastern regions respectively. In the western part, it develops in NE-striking dextral sense which is the general direction of the Honam shear zone. The U-Pb concordant ages obtained from the two samples, the strongly sheared leucocratic gneiss, are $1,868{\pm}3.8Ma$ and $1,867{\pm}4.0Ma$, respectively, which are consistent with the U-Pb ages reported around the study area. We supposed that the ductile shearing in the study area is occurred about 230~220 Ma during late stage of the continental collision around Korea and is preceded by granitic intrusion related to subduction during 260~230 Ma, which are supported by compiling the age data from sheared gneiss, deformed mafic dyke intruded gneiss complex, and non-deformed igneous rocks.
The effects of directional fracture tensor components and first invariant of fracture tensor on deformation moduli and shear moduli of fractured rock masses is analyzed based on regression analysis performed between 3-D fracture tensor parameters and deformability of DFN blocks. Using one or two deterministic joint sets, a total of 224 3-D discrete fracture network (DFN) cube blocks were generated with various configurations of deterministic density and probabilistic size distribution. The fracture tensor parameters were calculated for each generated DFN systems. Also, deformability moduli with respect to three perpendicular direction of the DFN cube blocks were estimated based on distinct element method. The larger the first invariant of fracture tensor, the smaller the values for the deformability moduli of the DFN blocks. These deformability properties present an asymptotic pattern above the certain threshold. It is found that power-law function describes the relationship between the directional deformability moduli and the corresponding fracture tensor components estimated in same direction.
