  • The objective of this study is to clarify the seismic capacity and the characteristics in the hysteretic behavior of RC structures with non-seismic detailing. Interior and exterior beam-column subassemblages were selected from a ten-story RC building and six 1/3-scale specimens were constructed with three variables; (1) with and without slab, (2) with and without hoop bars in the joint region, (3) upward and downward direction of anchorage for the bottom bar in beams of exterior beam-column subassemblage. The test results have shown; (1) in case of interior beam-column subassemblage, there is no almost difference between nonseismic and seismic details in the strength and ductility capacity; (2) the Korean practice of anchorage (downward and 25 $d_{b}$ anchorage length) in the exterior joint caused the 10%∼20% reduction of strength and 27% reduction of ductility in comparison with the case of seismic details; and the existence of hoop bars in the joint region shows no effect in shear strain.

  • To deepen the understanding of shear behaviour in beams without transverse reinforcement, the relative importance of five contributing factors to concrete shear resistance($v_c$), which are i)flexural compression zone, ii)friction at crack faces, iii)dowel action, iv)arch action and recently identified, v)residual tensile stresses across cracks, was explained physically using two analytical methods based on the truss concept. One is called "Modified Compression Field Theory(MCFT)" considering ii) and v) explicitly, and the other "Crack Friction Truss Model(CFTM)" more dominantly ii) in determining concrete resistance. To verify their effectiveness, the predictions using MCFT and CFTM were also made for twenty KAIST beam tests($f'_c$=53.7Mpa), designated more likely to the development of the size effect law based on the fracture mechanics concept. Experimental findings with varying of a/d, longitudinal reinforcement ratios, and obtained from MCFT enabled additional explanations for some phenomena which were difficult to measure in tests. However, MCFT seemed somewhat conservative for beams with higher longitudinal reinforcement, while somewhat unsafe for beams with larger depths. More tests are necessary leading to firm conclusions in these areas.

  • In order to substitute FRP bar for steel bar in new structures, it is necessary to establish a reliable design code. But relatively little research has been conducted on the material in Korea. So, a total of 22 beam specimens (18 GFRP reinforced concrete and 4 conventional steel reinforced concrete) were constructed and tested. In the first phase of the experiment, it was carried out to observe flexural behavior, and collect deflection and crack data. In order to eliminate of the uncertainty by the shear reinforcements and induce flexural failure mode, any stirrup were not used and only shear span-depth ratio were adjusted. However, almost beams were broken by shear and the ACI 440.1R, CSA S806, which were used to design test beams, showed considerable deviation between prediction and test results of shear strengths. Therefore in the second phase of the study, shear failure modes and behavior were observed. A standard specimen had dimensions of 3,300 mm long ${\times}$ 800 mm wide ${\times}$ 200 mm effective depth. Clear span and shear span were 2,800 mm, 1,200 mm respectively. Control shear span-depth ratio was 6.0. Four-point bending test over simple support was conducted. Variables of the specimens were concrete compressive strength, type and elastic modulus of reinforcement, shear span-depth ratio, effective reinforcement ratio, the effect of bundle placing method and cover thickness.

  • In spite of high resistant to corrosion and its strength, over the last two decades, concerns still remain about the durability of FRP materials under severe environmental and thermal exposures. In this paper, authors experimentally examine the combined degradation by thermal and chemical attacks in heterogeneous FRP rebar be made up with various fibers and resins. Five types of Carbon, Glass and Hybrid FRP rebars had manufactured by different process and surface patterns are adopted for the experiments such as weight change, interlaminar shear strength, SEM and FT-IR analysis. FRP specimens were immersed in alkaline or distilled solution up to 150 days and then thermal exposed on 60, 100, 150 and $300^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. From the test results, the degradation of FRP bars are influnced by the resin type and manufacturing process as well as the fiber, and ILSS of exposed FRP bar in solutions is slightly increased in initial stage and then decresed with the passing of immersed time. But, in this test, it is observed that the discrepancy of ILSS between degraded by alkaline solution and distilled water is negligible value.

  • This study carried out shear experiment for concrete deep beam reinforced FRP(Fiber Reinforced Polymers) bar to investigate shear strength of deep beam. The test conducted for 15 specimens, and the variables were shear span-to-depth ratio, reinforcement ratio, effective depth, reinforcement components of shear strength. crack, deflection are investigated based on shear experimental. We compared shear strength using ACI 318-08 STM with proposed equations that considered arching action according to shear span-to-depth ratio. Consequently shear strength of deep beam reinforced FRP bar presented higher shear strength than steel bar. ACI STM's predictions are better accurate than other predicting equations.

  • Recently, a concern about hollow core precast concrete (PC) slab has been increased as a method to improve the construction ability by reducing the self weight of structures during the construction. Hollow core slab which is known as a typical PC slab in domestic construction of PC building has a problem to put shear reinforcements in the web of element during the production of element in the factory. With regard to this point, recently, tripple ribs slab (TRS) which can be said as a new type of half PC slab system was developed. In TRS, it is possible to place shear reinforcements in PC element during the production of the element in the factory. This paper presents the shear test result of TRS which was done by one point loading test under simple support condition. Test parameters are the presence of cast-in-place (CIP) concrete and the contribution of lattice bars. From the test, it was found that the TRS has sufficient shear capacity to resist the design load and its strength can be predicted by the code equations for general beam. It is recommended to ignore the strength of lattice bar in the calculation of shear strength during the construction since its contribution is too low to be considered when CIP is not casted.

  • This study evaluates the shear performance of reinforced concrete beams with recycled coarse aggregates. A total of six specimens with various replacement ratios of recycled coarse aggregates (0%, 50%, and 100%) and different amount of shear reinforcement were cast and tested in this study. A finite element analysis was performed to predict the shear behavior of the specimens with natural or recycled coarse aggregates. The FE analysis was performed using a two-dimensional nonlinear FE analysis program based on the disturbed stress field model (DSFM), which is an extension of the modified compression field theory (MCFT). Experimental results showed that the specimens with 50% and 100% replacement ratios of recycled coarse aggregates had the similar shear strength compared to the specimen with natural aggregates, regardless of the replacement ratios of recycled coarse aggregates and the amount of the shear reinforcement. Furthermore, the comparison between experimental and analytical results showed that the proposed numerical modeling methods and the analytical model, DSFM, can be successfully used to predict the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams with recycled coarse aggregates.

  • Unlike external bonded steel plate or carbon fiber, the external unbonded strengthening using hi-strength bar has some advantages in speed and simplicity of installation. It is not required surface preparations and not affected by environmental conditions. A set of nine laboratory tests on RC beams strengthened using the hi-tension bars are reported. Anchoring pin developed in former research is installed at the end of beam to connect the hish-tension bar to RC beam. The test results strengthened by hi-tension bars are compared with those of non-strengthened specimens. The main test parameters are the cross-sectional area of the high-tension bar, distance of stirrups and condition of supports. Test results show that the beams reinforced are superior to reference specimens, especially for the strength and deformation capacity. Also, shear resisting effect of hi-strength bar can be confirmed in the specimens which have lack of stirrups.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the shear strength of SFRC beam that has no stirrups by steel fiber strengthening factor. To achieve the goal of this study, two stage investigation, which is material and member level, is studied with literature and experimental side. From the reviewing of previous researches and analyzing of material and member test results, strengthening parameter of SFRC is defined as steel fiber coefficient. Based on above results, steel fiber strengthening factor is proposed. And by reviewing the proposed equation of shear strength estimation, equation of Shin was well estimated the shear strength of SFRC beams. Therefore, shear strength equation of SFRC, which is composed by Shin's Eq. and steel fiber strengthening factor, is proposed by regression analysis of test results.

  • In this study, a simple and accurate model equation for prediction of shear strength of reinforce concrete beams without web, reinforcement is proposed based on basic shear transfer mechanism and modified Bazant's size effect law. The proposed equation includes the effects of concrete strength, longitudinal steel ratio, shear span to depth ratio and effective depth. Comparisons with published experimental data indicate that the proposed equation estimates properly the effects of these factors. Among many equations, ACI code equation, Zsutty's equation and Bazant's equation are selected for comparison. As the result, the accuracy of the proposed equation is better than that of any other equations.
