  • This study is a process to study the life drawing teaching method considering professional characteristics in animation and has a study objective to design the model and teaching method which applies the strategies considering the creative mechanism of the brain. Recently, study results about integrated teaching method are being announced which apply brain based learning principles as the alternative arguments about teaching methods in each area based on creativeness. In other words, integrated education based on creative mechanism in the brain is applied not only to fine arts and drawing education, but also to the entire areas of the arts. Life drawing is an area which demands comprehensive teaching method that vivid expressions could be skillfully obtained by understanding the communication methods with the objects through cognitive senses, creativeness and movements beyond the structural knowledge about human body. Therefore in this study, the strategies and methods for the skillfulness of life drawing and consequently arranged education model structure drawing are to be designed based on the creativeness, study materials and content factors which were analyzed in previous stages of this study. In order to combine the content factors based on creativeness and study materials of the brain which are the results of previous studies, the conclusion has been reached that 5 step cognitive strategy stages to wake brain senses, flexibilize the brain, purify the brain, integrate the brain and become the master of the brain. Strategic methods to execute this were designed with brain gym, right brain energization drawing and HSP(high-level cognizance) training. Teaching and learning model structure diagram which is designed based on this is to be continued to teaching and learning guidelines during the relevant semesters after the research.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify elementary school teachers' perceptions, practices, and background factors related to introducing students' everyday experience in science teaching process. The participants of this study were four elementary school teachers who have different features such as major, teaching period, gender, growth area, and age. The data was collected through semi-constructed and in-depth interviews. The results of the research are as follows: Teachers mostly used students' everyday experience during the introduction phase of science lessons for the purpose of motivation. They hold a positive view of using students' everyday experience during science lessons and thought that science teaching needs to actively use more of students' everyday experience, while in actual practice they disregarded or only passively introduced students' everyday experience. The various background factors found to affect teachers' practice are as follows: positive memory on their science class; educational experience of their own children; their own childhood environment; their learning style; their insufficient knowledge or enthusiasm; perceived educational value of everyday life in science education; teacher's duties; importance of students' achievement; difficulty in guiding experiment; reaction of students on introducing everyday experience; characteristics of science textbook and teacher's guidebook; lack of lesson time; realization of national common basic education; characteristics of their students; demands from parents or students; effect of introducing everyday experience. In addition, we found that the teachers behave not in accordance with what they thought due to external factors related to their profession and that, for a more active use of students' everyday experience in their teaching, teachers need support from textbooks and teachers' guidebooks.

  • Inquiry has been consistently emphasized in science education as a crucial element for learning. Although many researchers came to agree on the importance of scientific inquiry, authentic inquiry activities are hard to be actualized in an educational context. Therefore it is required to critically examine what teachers have difficulty in teaching inquiry. In this article, we looked into inquiry-based science activities in a small group setting where pre-service science teachers faced dilemmas between cognition and practice of inquiry. A case study was conducted on eight undergraduate students who are majoring in science education. The participants attended a weekly science program for middle school students in low SES as teaching assistants and mentors, and took full care of his/her mentees during open-inquiry activities. The results were drawn by analyzing participants' personal and group interviews, participant observations, self-reports, and others. The pre-service teachers viewed the knowledge and procedure of science as an essential factor in inquiry activities along with student's spontaneous attitude. However, in the process of performing inquiry, they faced several dilemmas between ideal cognition and real activities. The aspects of dilemmas could be summarized in three pairs of opposing concepts: 'diverging inquiry or converging science', 'interest-centered inquiry or learning-centered inquiry', and 'student as the subject or student with the insufficient expertise.' We discussed ways of resolving dilemmas and alternative perspectives on scientific inquiry.
